Frequent use of voice control is associated with both positive and, with limitations, also negative emotions towards the mobile phone. The study only partially confirms Herzberg’s two-factor theory when transferred to user experience. A more frequent use of voice control primarily affects positive emotions, but the combination of both emotion types can make a difference.","PeriodicalId":318322,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of Mensch und Computer 2022","volume":"30 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-09-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127950969","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Previous studies have shown that such apps are regarded as relevant, but only around 16% of German citizens used them in 2017 and 2019. With the COVID-19 pandemic and a devastating flash flood, Germany has recently experienced severe crisis-related losses. By comparing data from representative surveys from 2017, 2019 and 2021, this study investigates whether these events have changed the perceptions of warning apps and their usage patterns in Germany. The study shows that while multi-hazard emergency and warning apps have been easily surpassed in usage by COVID-19 contact tracing apps, the use of warning apps has also increased and the pandemic has added new desired features. While these have been little-used during the COVID-19 pandemic, especially non-users see smartphone messengers app channels as possible alternatives to warning apps. In addition, regional warning apps appear promising, possibly because they make choosing a warning app easier when there are several available on the market.","PeriodicalId":318322,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of Mensch und Computer 2022","volume":"102 3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-09-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117291783","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Eye tracking can support the unaffected assessment of attention biases during mirror exposure. However, the analysis of eye tracking data in mirror exposure comes with various difficulties and is associated with a high manual workload during data processing. We present an automated data processing framework that enables us to determine any body part as an area of interest without placing markers on the bodies of participants. A short, formative user study proved the quality compared to the gold standard. The automatic processing and openness for different systems allow a broad range of applications.","PeriodicalId":318322,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of Mensch und Computer 2022","volume":"18 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-09-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131401296","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

They can lead by example by making their data sharing processes transparent, and in turn, even raise awareness to data sharing practices in the private sector. In this demonstration we would like to present the first prototypes to achieve this end. Developed by implementing a human-centered design process, these prototypes cover three major life events that require interaction with the government and aim to show how and why data is shared between government agencies.","PeriodicalId":318322,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of Mensch und Computer 2022","volume":"6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-09-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131423485","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

At this point, we, the Department of Media Technology at Hamburg University of Applied Sciences, in cooperation with Knappschaft Kliniken GmbH, want to make a significant contribution with our project ‘PflegeDigital 2.0’, funded by the German Federal Ministry of Health. Our demo shows a fully digital, modular learning solution, comprising an overall of 22 interactive multi-lingual e-learning modules that can be used in the web browser on either a mobile device or a PC. Each module teaches in-depth a specific, essential nursing procedure, utilizing high-resolution 3d rendered images, detailed text, and professional audio narration. As a unique feature, trainees can additionally practice selected, motorically exceptionally demanding steps in immersive Virtual Reality (“VR nuggets”). To make switching between e-learning modules and VR nuggets more accessible, the latter's implementation is based on W3C-Standard WebXR, which allows execution in a web browser, too. In this way, both the e-learning modules as well as the VR nuggets can be deployed and managed complementarily in Learning Management Systems like Moodle. Zur Gewährleistung einer qualitativ hochwertigen Pflege- und Gesundheitsversorgung kommt der effektiven Vermittlung pflegerischer Handlungsprozesse während der Aus- und Weiterbildung von Pflegepersonal eine wichtige Rolle zu. An dieser Stelle wollen wir, das Department Medientechnik der HAW Hamburg in Kooperation mit der Knappschaft Kliniken GmbH, mit unserem vom Bundesministerium für Gesundheit geförderten Projekt \"Digital-Interaktive Ausbildung von Pflegepersonal mit Migrationshintergrund 2.0\" (kurz: „PflegeDigital 2.0“) einen wesentlichen Beitrag leisten. Unsere Demo zeigt eine modulare, praktisch einsetzbare Softwarelösung, die insgesamt 22 interaktive, mehrsprachige Online-Lernmodule beinhaltet, die den Ablauf pflegerischer Handlungsprozesse durch Abbildungen, Texte und Sprachausgaben vermitteln und sowohl auf mobilen Endgeräten als auch auf dem PC browserbasiert verwendet werden können. Als Alleinstellungsmerkmal können motorisch besonders anspruchsvolle Sequenzen zusätzlich in Virtueller Realität („VR Nugget“) trainiert werden. Durch Verwendung des W3C-Standards WebXR wird der Wechsel zwischen Webbrowser und Virtual Reality jedoch erheblich vereinfacht. Außerdem wird so für beide Komponenten eine Bereitstellung über ein Online Learning Management System wie Moodle unterstützt.","PeriodicalId":318322,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of Mensch und Computer 2022","volume":"26 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-09-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130451333","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

On the contrary, it is uncommon to include taste and its many facets in everyday design, particularly online shopping for fresh food products. To realize this unused potential, we conducted two Co-Design workshops. Based on the participants’ results in the workshops, we prototyped and evaluated a click-dummy smartphone app to explore consumers’ needs for digital taste depiction. We found that emphasizing the natural qualities of food products, external reviews, and personalizing features lead to a reflection on the individual taste experience. The self-reflection through our design enables consumers to develop their taste competencies and thus strengthen their autonomy in decision-making. Ultimately, exploring taste as a social experience adds to a broader understanding of taste beyond a sensory phenomenon.","PeriodicalId":318322,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of Mensch und Computer 2022","volume":"46 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-09-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132288668","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Nevertheless, hardly any approaches to take these identities into account into machine translation models exist so far. A lack of understanding of the socio-technical implications of such technologies risks further reproducing linguistic mechanisms of oppression and mislabelling. In this paper, we describe the methods and results of a workshop on gender-fair language and language technologies, which was led and organised by ten researchers from TU Wien, St. Pölten UAS, FH Campus Wien and the University of Vienna and took place in Vienna in autumn 2021. A wide range of interest groups and their representatives were invited to ensure that the topic could be dealt with holistically. Accordingly, we aimed to include translators, machine translation experts and non-binary individuals (as “community experts”) on an equal footing. Our analysis shows that gender in machine translation requires a high degree of context sensitivity, that developers of such technologies need to position themselves cautiously in a process still under social negotiation, and that flexible approaches seem most adequate at present. We then illustrate steps that follow from our results for the field of gender-fair language technologies so that technological developments can adequately line up with social advancements. Deutsch: Mit zunehmender gesamtgesellschaftlicher Wahrnehmung nicht-binärer Personen haben sich in den letzten Jahren auch Konzepte von genderfairer Sprache von der bisher verwendeten Binarität (weiblich/männlich) entfernt. Trotzdem gibt es bislang nur wenige Ansätze dazu, diese Identitäten in maschineller Übersetzung abzubilden. Ein fehlendes Verständnis unterschiedlicher sozio-technischer Implikationen derartiger Technologien birgt in sich die Gefahr, fehlerhafte Ansprachen und Bezeichnungen sowie sprachliche Unterdrückungsmechanismen zu reproduzieren. In diesem Beitrag beschreiben wir die Methoden und Ergebnisse eines Workshops zu genderfairer Sprache in technologischen Zusammenhängen, der im Herbst 2021 in Wien stattgefunden hat. Zehn Forscher*innen der TU Wien, FH St. Pölten, FH Campus Wien und Universität Wien organisierten und leiteten den Workshop. Dabei wurden unterschiedlichste Interessensgruppen und deren Vertreter*innen breit gestreut eingeladen, um sicherzustellen, dass das Thema holistisch behandelt werden kann. Dementsprechend setzten wir uns zum Ziel, Machine-Translation-Entwickler*innen, Übersetzer*innen, und nicht-binäre Privatpersonen (als “Lebens-welt-Expert*innen”) gleichberechtigt einzubinden. Unsere Analyse zeigt, dass Geschlecht in maschineller Übersetzung eine maßgeblich kontextsensible Herangehensweise erfordert, die Entwicklung von Sprachtechnologien sich vorsichtig in einem sich noch in Aushandlung befindlichen gesellschaftlichen Prozess posi","PeriodicalId":318322,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of Mensch und Computer 2022","volume":"36 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-09-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115147227","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

While early chatbots were easy to identify, recently released open-domain chatbots, such as GPT3 and Blenderbot2, increasingly blur the line between human and chatbot interaction. Dedicated research is required to better understand how different design configurations of open-domain chatbots impact their users, whether users are able to distinguish between human and bot chat agents, and how users respond to the undisclosed identity of their counterpart. However, there is a lack of experimental platforms that integrate state-of-the-art chatbots in order to enable such research. We therefore propose BotOrNot, which enables large-scale experimental research with participants in a Turing test setting. Participants are matched with either Blenderbot2/GPT3 or another human participant and tasked to figure out whether the counterpart is a human or bot. We designed the platform in a way that it allows to adapt the settings of the experiment to enable different experimental scenarios and follow an open approach allowing to integrate future bots via an API. Participants can personalize their avatars and chatbots can also be personalized with regards their personality and avatar.","PeriodicalId":318322,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of Mensch und Computer 2022","volume":"205 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-09-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116377338","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The creation of attractive cultural probes can be a time-consuming process requiring a diverse skillset. We suggest the use of pop-up paper elements as a simple, cheap, and effective way to engage participants. We explain how to craft the material based on a case study with Pop-Up Probes used as warm-up exercise for a co-creation session to make participants reflect on their own relationship with objects in their home. Based on this case study we illustrate what information can be attained from the cultural probes and discuss opportunities to transfer the method to other contexts.","PeriodicalId":318322,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of Mensch und Computer 2022","volume":"264 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-09-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133941312","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
