In realizing human resources that are ready for the era of the industrial revolution 4.0, the government makes several efforts through education. Character is one of the cornerstones of the progress of a nation. Character is not inherited from birth but needs to be nurtured to grow into the nation's character. The character can be formed through school education in geography subjects. Learning geography will introduce students to the area where they are located. Thus, geography can develop religious, nationalist, independent, cooperative, and integrity characters who love the homeland. This study aims to determine the character of students in the development of character-based learning media. This research was conducted at the Geography MGMP of SMA in Langsa City and East Aceh Regency, totalling 27 teachers. Data collection techniques are interviews and information on the types of learning media on geography material in high school and the characters needed to study geography. The research results are (1) Teachers choose 83% of high school geography materials that require video as a learning medium. Videos are considered capable of providing explanations in the form of images with movement and sound. Thus, videos can help students understand geography material; (2) Interactive multimedia is a suitable medium to foster independent character in students. This media is interactive where the media will present material or information according to what students want; therefore, teachers must develop interactive multimedia for their students; (3) Teachers have the same difficulty in developing geography learning media. The difficulty is the lack of skills in the use of IT technology.Keywords: Learning Media, Character Education, Geography Education, Digital Revolution","PeriodicalId":31787,"journal":{"name":"Jurnal Geografi","volume":"39 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-08-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"78718401","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Aims this article  to describe the development of urbanization in North Sumatra. Method of research is library research, data collection is carried out by taking from various sources such as BPS data, journals, documentation, and coupled with observational data then analyzed descriptively. This research found  that the population development of North Sumatra (North Sumatra) is still concentrated in Medan City. Although its geographical area is only 0.36% of North Sumatra's area, Medan is inhabited by 2,279,894 million people. The concentration of the population of North Sumatra in Medan is due to the ongoing urbanization or migration of people from villages to cities. The high number of urban residents can be a problem for the government, one of which is the emergence of the phenomenon of poverty, homelessness, and congestion. Often people who move to urban areas have big reasons and expectations such as wanting to get a job, high wages, prestige, and wanting to enjoy urban facilities. The conclusion is the development of the urban population in North Sumatra is in line with the rapid development of infrastructure, such as toll roads, and industries built by the government or the private sector continue to grow. The increasing level of urbanization shows the increasing number of people living in urban areas (cities) which causes the population to become denser in urban areas. The large number of people who urbanize in North Sumatra is due to economic and social factors.Keywords: Urbanization, Mapping, Development, Nort Sumatra ","PeriodicalId":31787,"journal":{"name":"Jurnal Geografi","volume":"37 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-08-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"86839193","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The analytical method provides a clear, objective, systematic, analytical, and critical description and description of the distribution and population density description: characteristics and patterns of change in North Sumatra. The initial step is achieved by collecting the required data, classifying it, describing it, and then analyzing it. The results of this study explain that the distribution pattern and population density that occur are caused by spatial characteristics and geological changes. When viewed from the aspect of population density. The high population density in North Sumatra causes social problems such as congestion, poverty, health services, crime rates, settlements, unhealthy living environments, and others. Indonesia is one of the countries exposed to Covid-19, where there has been a fluctuation in the number of victims exposed to Covid-19 since March 2020. Sragen Regency is one of the areas affected by Covid-19. This study aims to determine the level of vulnerability of the Sragen Regency to the Covid-19 pandemic and analyze the relationship between regional vulnerability and the number of Covid-19 cases (suspect, probable, confirmed, and discarded cases) in Sragen Regency. This research was conducted quantitatively by descriptive and inferential statistical analysis using the Spearman Rho test, preceded by tests of normality and homogeneity as a prerequisite test. The results indicated that the vulnerability of the Sragen Regency to Covid-19 was classified into high, medium, and low classes. High class dominated in 11 districts, medium class in 8 districts, and low class in 1 sub-district. Furthermore, the Spearman's rho test results were 0.084>0.05, which means that there was a relationship between the regional vulnerability variable and the number of Covid-19 cases, but it was not significant. However, most of these reviews tend to understand paddy fields from the physical-material dimension. By using the perspective of contemporary geography, this paper provides a critical conceptual overview of the conversion of paddy fields through the elaboration of human-nature dialectic as a central theme in the discipline of geography. The dialectic also contains identity, spatial awareness, and spatial-symbolic order issues that affect the existence of farmers and their paddy fields. This critical review results in the argument that the relationship between farmers and paddy fields represents a spatial-symbolic order that contains values, enthusiasm, identity, and living traditions. The identity and existence of farmers are part of the existence of paddy fields. Paddy fields have become part of the minds and consciousness of the farmers. The conversion of paddy fields will reduce the eco-cultural relations in this order and replace it with a capitalistic system.Keywords: contemporary geography, human-nature dialectic, paddy field conversion, spatial-symbolic order, sustainable agriculture","PeriodicalId":31787,"journal":{"name":"Jurnal Geografi","volume":"121 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-07-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"81140122","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Several active volcanoes are located on small islands, so they require a greater effort in relation to disaster management, especially those related to volcano activities. However, research on the identification of small volcanic islands has not been widely carried out in Indonesia. This study tries to fill the gap using a geomorphological aspect approach, which consists of morphology, morphogenesis, morphochronology, and morphoaransement, to identify small volcanic islands in North Maluku Province. Literature review and spatial data collection were carried out to determine the parameters used in the identification of small volcanic islands. Based on the literature review, this study uses 5 (five) parameters, namely the island area, the type of material, the location / morphoaransement, the pattern of river flow, and the features of the landforms which include the presence of volcanic landform (morphochronology), slope, and morphology. Based on the spatial analysis using these 5 parameters, information is obtained that there are at least 6 of the 17 islands that meet the criteria to be called small volcanic islands in North Maluku. School leaders and teachers are expected to balance the need for standard operating procedures with the ability of organizational structures to respond to specific problems caused by disasters. Teacher enhancement is expected to provide a more active role for students and overcome their stress in post-disaster situations. This study aimed to examine the perspective of high school teachers on knowledge of natural disasters and natural disaster mitigation. A descriptive statistical approach is used to describe and explain teacher knowledge and mitigate natural disasters. Explaining how much influence or relationship between teachers' knowledge on disaster mitigation is done. The sample in this study was high school teachers in Aceh province, with 389 teachers. The research data collection used an instrument in the form of a questionnaire. The results showed that the perspective of high school teachers regarding knowledge of natural disasters was in the high category on average; the average teacher knew general knowledge of natural disasters, signs of catastrophe, classification of natural disasters, and causes of natural disasters. Not much different from the results of the teacher's perspective regarding natural disaster mitigation in the very high category, planning in the mitigation process, policies, operational disaster procedures, signs of disaster evacuation have been recognized by SMA teachers in Aceh province. Despite continued discharges of pollution loads from anthropogenic waste, the heavy metal pollution index (HPI)—a water quality index assessing heavy metal ions present in a body of water—remains nationally underutilized. The research was intended to 1) analyze the river water quality based on metal and nonmetal parameters typical of domestic waste, 2) calculate HPI using either and both parameters, and 3) evaluate the resultant water quality status. The water quality data were the products of temporal river monitoring conducted by the Forestry and Environmental Office for Yogyakarta. The heavy metal parameters included Fe, Cu, Cd, Cr, and Pb, while the nonmetal parameters were BOD, COD, TSS, ammonia, oil and grease, and total coliforms. Each parameter value was compared with the water quality standard issued in Governor Regulation No. 20/2008.  The results showed that the HPI composite of heavy metal parameters classified the river water quality as excellent (2.52), whereas the one representing nonmetal parameters indicated bad quality (55.04). Nevertheless, based on the HPI composed of all parameters, the quality fell into the category excellent (3.94). Consequently, when all metal and nonmetal parameters are combined into the HPI calculation, the river shows a better water quality status.Keywords: HPI (Heavy Metal Pollution Index) water quality, domestic waste, heavy metal, Yogyakarta","PeriodicalId":31787,"journal":{"name":"Jurnal Geografi","volume":"283 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-06-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"85452066","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
