This paper proposes a stochastic nonlinear excitation controller for transient stability enhancement in a multimachine power system. The third-order model of generators is adopted. A new probabilistic stability criterion is presented where the magnitude of a stochastic disturbance is included explicitly. Then the whole power system is represented by a nonlinear stochastic differential equation set. The proposed excitation controller is implemented by leveraging the feature of a stochastic port-Hamiltonian system. Compared with the controller design methods based on the deterministic power system model, the proposed method can improve the system stability even in the presence of continuous stochastic disturbances on power injections. Besides, it is convenient to select the Hamiltonian function as the stochastic Lyapunov function in the proposed approach. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed method is demonstrated by a two-area test system with a three-phase fault.","PeriodicalId":317349,"journal":{"name":"2019 IEEE 60th International Scientific Conference on Power and Electrical Engineering of Riga Technical University (RTUCON)","volume":" 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"113948871","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In the practical implementation of this algorithm, under certain conditions, a progressive accumulation of errors appears in determining of the switching position. To identify these conditions simulation model of the drive in MATLAB - SIMULINK has been developed. Simulation showed that one of the reasons for the failure of the algorithm may be the spread of the electromagnetic parameters of the phases due to technological deviations in the manufacture of the motor. Theoretical studies were confirmed experimentally.","PeriodicalId":317349,"journal":{"name":"2019 IEEE 60th International Scientific Conference on Power and Electrical Engineering of Riga Technical University (RTUCON)","volume":"23 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122486081","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Symmetrical loading- and voltage-related impacts are assessed for the extensive grid. A synthetic EV mix pattern was used with the purpose to demonstrate a universal observation of charging impacts. These patterns were allocated quasi-randomly to the points of common coupling within the grid based on predefined scenarios - 8, 10, 12 and 20 percent. Subsequently, quasi-static time series simulations for a duration of one year in 10-minute time steps were executed. Consequently, this paper yields results, which offer practical insight in the maximum share of electric vehicle charging in low-voltage distribution grids and provide guidance for future decision-making of distribution grid operators.","PeriodicalId":317349,"journal":{"name":"2019 IEEE 60th International Scientific Conference on Power and Electrical Engineering of Riga Technical University (RTUCON)","volume":"14 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131649328","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A chemical battery energy storage system (BESS) providing compensation techniques such as virtual inertia response (VIR) and droop-based primary frequency response (PFR) can supply the corrective power needed to remedy the increased frequency volatility. This study explores the frequency volatility in a 300 MW hydro-diesel ac-island grid for increasing levels of PV up to a target of 100 MW, and the corrective impact of BESS-based VIR and PFR. The analysis conducted in MATLAB-Simulink® showed that the combined governor response of both hydro and diesel units where fast enough to compensate the aggregated PV plant ramps, and therefore no BESS support would be required for such power imbalances. Analysis of the frequency volatility to the event of losing a large hydro unit, showed that the rate of change of frequency (ROCOF) would change approximately 0.043 Hz/s for every unit change in the systems rotational inertia, increasing from 0.48 Hz/s and exceeding a target ROCOF of 1 Hz/s. The final ROCOF was 1.24 Hz/s at the 100 MW PV level. In this case, 6.52 MW BESS-based VIR and PFR power was needed to correct the frequency response to a desired target ROCOF of 1 Hz/s and nadir of above the under-frequency load shed (UFLS) limit of 58.6 Hz. In comparison, running 21 MW additional diesel units reduced the ROCOF to under 1 Hz/s, but could not maintain the nadir above the UFLS.","PeriodicalId":317349,"journal":{"name":"2019 IEEE 60th International Scientific Conference on Power and Electrical Engineering of Riga Technical University (RTUCON)","volume":"7 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127095451","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The “fitness” of power network topology is estimated by the relative decrease o the total periodic short-circuit currents. Power losses, power transmission line lading, voltage levels are considered as constraints in order to ensure feasibility of the resulting topology of the network. The approach was verified using 118-bus fragment of the real regional power system and demonstrated high efficiency in comparison to the conventional genetic optimization.","PeriodicalId":317349,"journal":{"name":"2019 IEEE 60th International Scientific Conference on Power and Electrical Engineering of Riga Technical University (RTUCON)","volume":"8 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133898569","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The usage of already known situations for students, as example environmental problems is a word vide challenge, and it could be used for education purposes. The technology development process has another side, as example a few year-old electronic product lives became suddenly short. This brings to an explosion and rapid acceleration in producing e-waste and solid waste. Waste and problems that they bring such as environmental and ecological problems are currently very well recognised among young generation, and they are familiar with that challenge from school. The education and awareness among people about the consequences of their actions is a basis for the arising creativeness, and to motivate students to involve themselves for the equipment designer's position. The career development path in the area of equipment design is basis for the entrepreneurship skills development, and it a good beginning for the motivation of students. The utilisation of e-waste is a good solution to brake psychological barrier, that students can do something wrong, as the creativeness well be based on low cost solutions. Education of new generations in order to change their behaviour regarding mechatronic scrap, is presented as a new approach of treating a mechatronic scrap. This is realized by building with students a few examples of autonomous mobile robots. This process of recycling was used to combine theoretical part with a practical one, in order to design and built robot from scrap. The Building Robots from scrap is in same time a starting point on how we can reuse mechatronic scrap, and how we can start from individual level to contribute in reduction of scrap.","PeriodicalId":317349,"journal":{"name":"2019 IEEE 60th International Scientific Conference on Power and Electrical Engineering of Riga Technical University (RTUCON)","volume":"10 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115039933","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
