Those villages acknowledge that they have a mythological narrative which based their gandong relationship. This research eventually would like to depict that development strategy of the local community, in a broader and fundamental sense, is able to be applied by understanding the local community’s worldview as a manifestation of historical and cultural consciousness, which is formed throughout a long and dynamic living experience. At that point, it offers a novel perspective about a cultural strategy for community development with orientation on discovering intrinsic values of local tradition as the foundation to absorb and adapt social changes in accordance with existing local wisdom that actually are their social and cultural capital. Certainly, the result of this research is only a model that offers to be tested continuously in changing sociopolitical and cultural contexts. This research ends right on the dot where other subsequent researches must move on to discover and reconstruct development models which take sides for the better future and life of the globalized-local ‘glocal’ communities in Indonesia.","PeriodicalId":316184,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the International Conference on Religion and Public Civilization (ICRPC 2018)","volume":"134 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-05-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115701095","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The research employs a Just War Theory to survey the perceptions of an interreligious based conflict. The theory claims that a war could be a just war if it meets the principles in the Just War Theory. This research uses the stories from pastors to analyze and criticize the principles. It employed a qualitative method to collect data from field and documentary research. Using a snowball data collection approach, 15 pastors were interviewed in Ambon who experienced the conflict directly with their congregation members. The results show that the conflict in Ambon was not a just war because of the different causes and processes between the conflict in Ambon and the principles of a just war. Moreover, the understanding and experiences of the pastors fundamentally reflect that the just war principles are ideal in theory, but it is extremely hard to make a conflict a just war in practice. Along with the Muslim brothers/sisters in Maluku, the GPM totally realized that “we were all useless victims”. Since then, based on such horrible experience, GPM develops so-called “pro-life theology” as a way to provide new theological perspective and practical ecclesiastic acts for sustainable peace-building. With this clear vision, GPM desires to strengthen its call to develop a better system of life together. This paper is a literature review to identify the people’s traditions that can be used for triggering of conflict and even closely related to the increasingly widespread radicalism. The article tends to answer some research questions: What is the crucial viewpoint for GPM on its 80 years existence as a church in Maluku? Is it only an organization? What is the meaning of GPM as church for her congregations in Maluku archipelago? The prime loyalty is not on the organization enterprise but merely to God in Jesus Christ. Speaking theologically, church is the body of Christ. The institution is only a tool, not the power of the church. The power of the church is the power of Holy Spirit. The Church Sasi can be used as a means of encountering Christian and Muslim communities to solve their common problem like internal conflicts between people from the same and different faiths, resulting from the corps stealing behavior. The church sasi is done every the third week of the month, followed by both Christian and Muslim communities. Based on the results of research conducted in Negeri Maneoratu, for 1 month, it was found that first, Sasi Church is a sacred ritual for Christian and Muslim communities, as those in Negeri Maneoratu are actually afraid to violate it. They believe that by doing so they will get punishment from Allah. The impact is the loss of internal conflict. Second, church sasi serves as a reconsolidation and reconciliation media by Christian and Muslim communities, so they are not easily influence by issues that can trigger a conflict. The impact is ongoing peace. And third, Christian and Muslim communities can enjoy good harvests, as they have changed their behavior. Another impact is that shared prosperity can be realized. The research was conducted by using the Anthropology of Religion, with qualitative method as a medium to obtain data in order to answer the problems studied, with Negeri Maneoratu, Telutih District, Central Maluku Regency serves as research site. The fulfillment of the needs of the congregation of the country Booi is sourced from nutmeg (nutmeg seeds and flowers/nutmeg). The result shows that although nutmegs have very high economic value and are the main source of income for Booi congregation, evidently they always leave nutmegs to “poor people” (widows and orphans) when harvesting. This behavior allows every member of the congregation to continue to survive in an effort to meet the needs of their life even though the dusun (farmland) is not theirs. In addition, this phenomenon also provides opportunities for the development of rural community industries. The tradition of picking up nutmeg seeds is also influenced by the process of internalization and interpretation of Christian teachings depicted in the Book of Deuteronomy. For Deuteronomy, knowing and loving God means loving others and being fair to them. Deuteronomy 24:19-21, clearly shows concern to the poor and becomes the law for the life of the people. “When you are harvesting in your field and you overlook a sheaf, do not go back to get it. Leave it for the foreigner, the fatherless and the widow, so that the Lord your God may bless you in all the work of your hands (NIV).” This law is intended to the landowner so as to enable the poor to survive without asking for mercy.
