From a data sample of roughly 100,000 π0→e+e−γ decays, we measure a value of the form factor slope a=0.02±0.02±0.04, where the first error is statistical, the second, systematic. Since they give at best only qualitative features of the neutrino mass, additional constraints are considered. Cosmology restricts the masses of stable neutrinos and lifetimes of the unstable ones. Neutrino counting (Z‐width and primordial nucleosynthesis) restrict the number of neutrino flavors. Neutrino double beta decay constrains the mass eigenvalues. All these features have to be considered when new evidence (e.g., the recent suggestion of 17 keV neutrino) are placed in the broader context.","PeriodicalId":316054,"journal":{"name":"Intersections between particle and nuclear physics","volume":"23 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-05-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115998507","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
