However, achieving this goal requires coordination of all actors in the economy including governments, industries, and national institutions. Although each individual actor has unique capabilities and strategic resources, how well the economy performs depends on the strengths of the network as a whole. National Innovation Systems (NIS) approach considers all these interdependent actors within a country to increase national competitiveness. A good example in this regard is South Korea, an innovation leader, which could be a role model for developing countries with its well-established NIS. This chapter studies the elements of the NIS of this country and compares them with that of an emerging economy, Turkey, by using data from the Global Innovation Index and the Global Competitiveness Index. The analysis reveals the strengths and weaknesses of Turkey and helps to draw concrete policy conclusions.","PeriodicalId":314746,"journal":{"name":"Advances in Business Strategy and Competitive Advantage","volume":"23 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124995273","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A special look is given to the orchestra metaphor, as it is possible to consider one of the most cited method for decades. Approaching orchestra formation definitions, a study of orchestra characteristics and peculiarities was conducted, resulting in an interesting inside view of the orchestra. A brief theoretical analysis about modelling techniques and its application in business process is also developed, allowing, at the end, to discuss how the orchestra metaphor can be applied in a useful way, encompassing several of the aspects we pointed in the text. This results as an orientation for the reader to understand how this specific technique – orchestra metaphor – can be effectively applied in decision-making processes of any level for organizations, escaping from mistakes usually committed when simple views for musical orchestras are adopted.","PeriodicalId":314746,"journal":{"name":"Advances in Business Strategy and Competitive Advantage","volume":"25 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131401638","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The following chapter introduces one example of how Polish Fulbright scholars prepared for a U.S. assignment through a digital training program, taken before participants departed their home country, as a way to support post arrival integration, safety, and success in the U.S. Compared to the control group, research findings from this phenomenological research study indicated that the four-week training program supported increases in self-awareness and self-management skills, social skills and cultural awareness, English communication skills, academic and professional readiness skills, and responsible decision-making skills in the treatment group. Because sociological research is mainly qualitative and KM contains sociological components, KM can take advantage of methods such as grounded theory (GT) approach that are specific to qualitative research. Accordingly, the chapter provides an understanding of the use of GT in KM. For this purpose, the chapter focuses on understanding process of transforming knowledge into wisdom, presenting KM model, determining factors of knowledge sharing, and consequently, developing a framework of knowledge sharing and determining the critical success factors (CSFs) of KM and their relationships within a model.","PeriodicalId":314746,"journal":{"name":"Advances in Business Strategy and Competitive Advantage","volume":"3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132745394","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In the first study, 18 taken-for-granted assumptions have been held against the scientific literature using rapid evidence assessment (REA) as a method. In light of the available evidence, some of these assumptions proved to be untenable. In a second study, practitioners were confronted with these assumptions and fed back the assessments. These studies, combined together, show that practitioners are often not aware of scientific findings relevant to their field. On the other hand, despite all the reseach that has been done and published, the scientific literature often does not provide satisfactory and conclusive answers to the questions practitioners grapple with.","PeriodicalId":314746,"journal":{"name":"Advances in Business Strategy and Competitive Advantage","volume":"264 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133649180","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

These SMEs recently faced, due to COVID-19 pandemic, chaotic circumstances resulting in business shut down, loss of man-hours, halt of machinery and material movement by which they lost their economy. Quick solutions to address the challenges were out of view. Moreover, making major changes swiftly in the set business system was impractical and probably impossible. Getting normalcy back on track delayed extensively owing to the unavailability of vaccines. Ignorance in terms of the remedy made the businesspersons helpless to bear with the situation. Literature exposed that the pandemic situation paralyzed the business functions entirely. Obviously, to safeguard the SMEs from such incidences in the future, this study became essential in understanding remedial, innovative, and sustainable strategies.","PeriodicalId":314746,"journal":{"name":"Advances in Business Strategy and Competitive Advantage","volume":"374 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133676121","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
