The findings of the analysis, which show that increasing technological development accelerates the competitive power, support the Schumpeterian hypothesis, revealing that the impact of technology on competitiveness could accelerate with the contribution of the financial sector. In addition, findings reflecting the fact that the foreign trade which has been strengthened via technical development increases the competitive power show that the level of globalization has a contribution to this process, also. It has been observed that securing the property rights and applying the effective patent regimes leads to competitive advantage, and the economic integration process of the European continent has strengthened the competitive force.","PeriodicalId":314746,"journal":{"name":"Advances in Business Strategy and Competitive Advantage","volume":"130 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115045712","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Innovative methods for risk management became more important as the standards for compliance and management tightened. Institutions also invested in strengthening their risk cultures and involved their boards more closely in key risk decisions. This chapter discusses major risk factors for financial institutions and the innovative solutions that they introduced to manage risk better. Innovative solutions in risk management are not limited to advances in technology such as machine learning and data mining, but also include new regulations, better monitoring, and stricter auditing. Financial institutions improved boards' oversight of risk, created new committees for risk assessment and monitoring. and developed new methodologies for risk management.","PeriodicalId":314746,"journal":{"name":"Advances in Business Strategy and Competitive Advantage","volume":"11 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115584543","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Different organizations have different approaches to making BI available for different business users, divisions, and departments. Data visualization is also one of the important factors which will provide user better reflection of data rather than make them confuse about organization data with too much information in the reports and dashboards. Data quality and diverse standards, which make BI famous in the different organizations, are also analyzed during the investigation of both organizations used in this case study. The case study analysis also shows how BI maturity, governance, and framework are key factors involved in the successful deployment of the BI in different organizations.","PeriodicalId":314746,"journal":{"name":"Advances in Business Strategy and Competitive Advantage","volume":"220 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116070798","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This chapter concentrates on the middle-ground level, the strategic group. The analysis of strategic groups helps companies find a better position for their business on the market. By now, various techniques have been created to identify companies comprising a strategic group. Presented here are some of the most commonly used tools: the K-mean cluster analysis, the strategic profile of an industry, and the strategic themes matrix. To some degree, the usage of these methods is costly and thus problematic, especially for smaller companies. For this reason, the authors have developed an alternative tool, the “Profitability-Turnover Matrix Model” (PTMM). The technique is based on objective and freely available information. The focus is placed on the possibility of using the PTMM by entrepreneurial mid-sized companies.","PeriodicalId":314746,"journal":{"name":"Advances in Business Strategy and Competitive Advantage","volume":"4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130269668","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The risk management framework which evolved from Basel I to Basel III (or with the December 2017 finalizations, the way the market calls it “Basel IV”) in the world economies and Capital Requirements Directive (CRD) V and Capital Requirements Regulation (CRR) II in the European Union have been game changers. Global managers need to take strategic decisions in this new international risk management setting in order to succeed in the competitive global business environment. For effective capital management, risk function and finance function should come together. For effective implementation, this mix should be supported by establishing partnership among the risk, finance, and strategy groups.","PeriodicalId":314746,"journal":{"name":"Advances in Business Strategy and Competitive Advantage","volume":"43 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129710617","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Applied theatre engages participants to understand their emotional responses to change and how they might respond more effectively to it. These processes are discussed through the legacy of Aristotle's ideas on emotional participation and Boal's Forum Theatre on engagement with groups and their empowerment. After a brief introduction to applied theatre methodology, the chapter presents key insights from interviews with five directors of applied theatre that highlight how they use their skills and competence in emotional awareness and emotional management in order to shape the emotional states of participants and achieve learning to cope with change. Finally, the authors highlight recent studies suggesting applied theatre can have positive impacts within a broad array of settings.","PeriodicalId":314746,"journal":{"name":"Advances in Business Strategy and Competitive Advantage","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128235394","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
