However, there is a lack for software to support the teaching process for people with visual impairment. Learning a foreign language provides personal, professional and cultural development. This paper presents a research that aims to answer the following questions: what are the existing methods for teaching visually impaired people? What are the existing methods for teaching foreign languages? Which are the existing software to support the teaching of foreign languages for the visually impaired people? To answer these questions, a systematic mapping about software that aim to teach foreign languages for visually impaired people was conducted. In this article, we present the papers that focus on the teaching people with visual impairment or teaching foreign language, discussing the main teaching techniques used and software proposed.","PeriodicalId":314561,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 17th Brazilian Symposium on Human Factors in Computing Systems","volume":"13 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-10-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121828522","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, their descriptions usually contain too many details related to personal characteristics and too little information relevant to the software that will be developed. This may limit their use and acceptance. In this context, the PATHY technique was proposed. It uses guiding questions to create personas more focused on the design of applications. In this paper, we present an experimental study where the technique was integrated with user stories. The study aims at evaluating the participants' perception regarding the structure of the technique and analyzing the requirements generated when using PATHY in a software development process. The results showed that, although the participants found some difficulties, they considered the technique useful for creating personas. Furthermore, it helped in the identification of requirements used as basis for the elaboration of user stories.","PeriodicalId":314561,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 17th Brazilian Symposium on Human Factors in Computing Systems","volume":"47 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-10-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122342469","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

PROMISE'S proposal was grounded on the literature. In this paper we present a two-step analysis of the framework. To do so, we applied the Semiotic Inspection Method (SIM) in order to reconstruct the designer message to users, and a coding step was applied to evaluate the users experience with the sharing economy. As a result, we have identified some aspects that PROMISE was not able to represent well, and have proposed changes on the framework.","PeriodicalId":314561,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 17th Brazilian Symposium on Human Factors in Computing Systems","volume":"123 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-10-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115088469","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, the connected world brings many challenges, like privacy in designing system interfaces. This article aims to analyze how privacy has been treated in Brazilian Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) researches, in order to verify how the fourth challenge published in the Brazilian Great Challenges of Research in HCI (I GranDIHC-BR) report - about privacy and user's information visibility - has contributed to more researches about privacy among ten editions of Brazilian Symposium on Human Factors in Computational Systems (IHC Brazil). For this, we mapped 314 complete articles published in the last ten editions of the IHC Brazil, in a comparative approach, focusing on publications about privacy: five editions before and five editions after the I GranDIHC-BR, using systematic literature review (SLR) method. As a result, we identified few articles related to the topic, most of them about social network systems privacy and focused on understanding the user's perception of privacy. These findings demonstrate that there are still many challenges on the subject to be investigated by the HCI community.","PeriodicalId":314561,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 17th Brazilian Symposium on Human Factors in Computing Systems","volume":"139 2 Pt 1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-10-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123142372","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Thereby, to make an inclusive redesign, according to the need pointed out by the company responsible for the system, aspects related to usability were developed to provide adequate support for people with visual impairments and hearing impaired people. Thus, keeping the focus on potential users and their participation in the evaluation of the proposed design, it was possible to fix usability failures and incorporate new positive aspects. Therefore, it was verified that observing the recommendations to accessibility, without involving users in the project, does not allow the development of truly inclusive systems.","PeriodicalId":314561,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 17th Brazilian Symposium on Human Factors in Computing Systems","volume":"64 5","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-10-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"120880482","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Although the problem is not new, the \"human aspect\" of data and the possible impact of Human-Data Interaction (HDI) in human life have been explored and discussed as an emerging research area. On the one hand, HDI offers plenty of opportunities for research and development, and on the other hand it demands characterization, grounding, critical discussions, empirical results and thinking tools to support research and practice. This paper presents a Systematic Mapping of Literature on HDI in Computer Science, identifying the different definitions for the area, elements or objects of investigation, contexts of application, stakeholders, etc. Based on 28 selected papers, results point out to a lack of definition or agreement on what HDI is, but suggest that there are different aspects that can characterize it, and allow identifying concerns and objects of study, such as privacy, ownership and transparency. Results suggest a demand for theoretical and methodological frameworks to support the understanding, design and evaluation of HDI via computing systems.","PeriodicalId":314561,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 17th Brazilian Symposium on Human Factors in Computing Systems","volume":"96 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-10-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124486500","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Adopting the fundamentals of Participatory Design, this paper presents a multidimensional method for evaluating and proposing improvements on collaborative systems. The method involves three phases: (1) a presential briefing phase; (2) a non-presential observation phase; and (3) a Future Workshop phase. Instances of the proposed method seek to involve users as co-designers, making informed and relevant decisions about the future of a system which they could learn and use. This paper also presents the results of a preliminary evaluation, which consists in an instance of the method: evaluating and proposing improvements on a groupware prototype. The instance is compared to a traditional groupware evaluation method, exposing that the instance, not only identified similar collaboration-related issues, but also identified issues that were not identified by the inspection. During the experiment, participants informed us about issues experienced while collaborating and how they were perceived, and elicited possible futures in which the system would have more value to their objectives.","PeriodicalId":314561,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 17th Brazilian Symposium on Human Factors in Computing Systems","volume":"283 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-10-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131852872","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Sentiment Analysis (SA) aims to detect these emotions in text and, some SA tasks use lexicons to infer valence polarity from a text. Moreover, attributes extracted from lexicons such as Wordnet and LIWC have widespread use in AS tasks. However, one of the major challenges in using these lexicons is the absence of words in the vocabulary given that these words may contain valuable information for the SA task and therefore cannot be discarded. This paper proposes a new algorithm, named IKLex, to infer features to out-of-vocabulary words of LIWC lexicons using word embeddings. The experiments carried out with IKLex present promising results when applying the state-of-art classifiers of the polarity classification task in two datasets with different languages: Brazilian Portuguese and English. There was an improvement of at least 1% in the F1 score of the evaluated classifiers.","PeriodicalId":314561,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 17th Brazilian Symposium on Human Factors in Computing Systems","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-10-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131049332","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

There is interest in extracting and analyzing data obtained from the Web for a number of reasons as users opinions, users behavior, and networks evolution, for instance. Our study seeks to comprehend how data visualization could support social media data analysts in data understanding and decision making. We conducted interviews, and we analyzed the collected data using qualitative research strategies. Our results reveal a context in which analysts believe data visualization can support data analysis and in which they are aware of related tools. Our findings highlight social media analysts' needs in relation to data visualization in order to provide a basis to design of new tools to this audience.","PeriodicalId":314561,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 17th Brazilian Symposium on Human Factors in Computing Systems","volume":"13 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-10-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128342633","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The process of incorporating technology into one's practices involves use and adaptation of the technology and is usually referred to as appropriation. In research about IoT, appropriation of IoT technology is a rather new topic. It is necessary to understand how appropriation takes place in order to be able to provide strong support for it in the design of technology. In this paper, we present the initial results of an in-situ study observing how people use and adapt commercially available smart home technology, in practice, over time. We took Semiotic Engineering as a theoretical lens to understand the appropriation we observed in actual settings. Our contribution is to propose a semiotic account of appropriation and two derived qualities that can help designers address appropriation support in IoT technologies.","PeriodicalId":314561,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 17th Brazilian Symposium on Human Factors in Computing Systems","volume":"86 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-10-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130810763","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
