It was conducted with the participation of 46 teachers (34 females and 12 males) from 10 schools (7 senior and 3 junior secondary schools) in a city in the Mekong delta – Vietnam. All the participants had used CL in their classroom at least two year before they participated in the study. To find out teachers’ perceptions of CL in English language classrooms, the study used questionnaires and interviews. The questionnaire consisting of 50 items was designed based on Likert scale aiming at collecting data about their perceptions and practices to promote CL in their classrooms. The interviews with six of the participants were conducted to obtain more insightful understanding of cooperative learning and how they practiced promoting cooperative learning and difficulties they had when they applied it in their classrooms. The results show that most of the investigated teachers had positive perceptions of applying cooperative learning, especially they had good understanding of it (M=4.3, SD=.479). Regarding difficulties the teachers had, the results showed that the big class size, the noise and class control losing were claimed to be regular barriers. Besides, they also offered some ways to promote cooperative learning in English classrooms including clearly assigning roles for students, setting the stage for learning and closely monitoring the groups.","PeriodicalId":314053,"journal":{"name":"Anatolian Journal of Education","volume":"183 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115180119","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In the study designed according to the exploratory sequential design among mixed research methods, interviews were conducted with 94 second and third-year students who volunteered to participate in the study who were studying at the education school of a state university in the academic year of 2020-2021. The data obtained from the content analysis of the interviews showed that the students' study habits originated from their learning style, digital tools, home environment, recording the class, faculty members, time management, family, nutrition, social environment and psychological factors. A 24-item survey which was prepared upon these results was applied among 813 prospective teachers after expert opinions and pretesting. According to the analyses conducted including frequencies, means, t-test and one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA), it was observed that the study habits of the students changed mostly based on recording the class, which was respectively followed by factors related to faculty members, time management skills, social environment, digital tools, learning styles, psychological factors, family, home environment and nutrition. It was seen that the distribution of the opinions of the students on the factors that affected their study habits varied based on their gender and program of study.","PeriodicalId":314053,"journal":{"name":"Anatolian Journal of Education","volume":"45 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125286647","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study aims to examine the levels of medical students' curiosity and exploration, classroom engagement and commitment to online learning environment during the COVID-19 pandemic as well as to analyze the relationship between these variables. This study employs a correlational research approach method. Data were collected online from 618 students who study at the faculty of medicine using \"Trait Curiosity and Exploration Inventory\", \"Student Engagement Scale in Distance Education\" and \"Classroom Engagement for University Students\" and analyzed through descriptive statistics. The results revealed that the curiosity and exploration levels of the students are higher than their perception of engagement in the face-to-face classes whereas it is lower in student engagement in online learning environment. Perception level of curiosity and exploration estimates cognitive level activities more than behavioral and affective level activities.","PeriodicalId":314053,"journal":{"name":"Anatolian Journal of Education","volume":"29 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116000505","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The general survey model was used in the research. The population of the research consists of the teacher candidates who study at Akdeniz University, Faculty of Education and Sports Sciences throughout the 2020-2021 academic year. In order to determine the entrepreneurship level of teacher candidates, a thirty-eight item scale was used in the data collection process. For analyzing the data frequency, percentage, Mann Whitney-U test and Kruskal Wallis test were used. The Cronbach alpha reliability coefficient of the scale obtained with this research is .93. As a result of this research, it has been concluded from the scores of the teacher candidates that: the level of entrepreneurship is high; the dimension of seeing opportunities from the entrepreneurship dimensions has the highest score; men have a higher tendency to take risks from entrepreneurial dimensions than women; women have higher levels of self-confidence, innovation, seeing opportunities and emotional intelligence than men; and in dimensions of self-confidence and being innovative, special education, primary school and physical education teacher candidates, have respectively higher tendencies than other departments. 4th graders, 42 students are (13.9%) from 2nd grade 19 students (6.3%) are from 1st grade, 98 of the participants (32.5%) have an income between 0-500 TL, 90 (29.8%) of the participants have an income between 501-1000 TL, 66 (21.9%) of the participants have an income between 2001 and above, 27 (8.9%) of the participants have an income between 1001 -1500TL, 21 (7%) of them have an income between 1501-2000TL. This shows that the participants have either low income or high income. When we analyse the educational status of their mothers, 175 (57.9%) of the teacher candidates’ mothers are primary school graduates, 28 (9.3%) are secondary school graduates, 64 (21.2%) are high school graduates, 35 (11.6%) are university and master’s degree graduates. Regarding the educational status of their fathers, 118 (39.1%) of the teacher candidates’ fathers are primary school graduates, 46 (15.2%) are secondary school graduates, 78 (25.8%) are high school graduates, 60 (19.9%) are undergraduates and post-graduates.","PeriodicalId":314053,"journal":{"name":"Anatolian Journal of Education","volume":"15 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129130285","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
