The distributed structure of the emerged federated architecture imposes a problem of the data being not independent and identically distributed (non-IID), which drastically affects the performance of the learning process. While the majority of the recent works in the federated learning domain have accepted this limitation, only a few scholars addressed the non-IID problem straightforwardly. Nevertheless, these works lack the fundamental analysis of the data’ IIDness, and/or contradict the privacy feature of the federated learning paradigm. In this paper, we focus on evaluating the harmony of the participants by studying their data distribution and calculating their level of compatibility. The devised tool, in this work, is an assessment technique integrated within the federated learning framework to analyze the data distribution among the trainers. Our proposed method is proven by experimenting with several scenarios, and results show that our utility can fairly assess the selected participants before initiating the learning process.","PeriodicalId":313199,"journal":{"name":"GLOBECOM 2022 - 2022 IEEE Global Communications Conference","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-12-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117044504","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Consider the short duration of line-of-sight (LoS) link and high dynamic topology of LEO HTSs, we propose a handover uplink non-orthogonal multiple access (Hu-NOMA) transmission scheme for a multi-layer LEO HTS constellation. First, we formulate a practical two-layer LEO HTS constellation, where the higher-layer LEO HTS has a longer LoS link duration but not always visible, and the lower-layer LEO HTS has a shorter LoS link duration and can continuous support the uplink transmission via frequent handovers. Then, we derive the closed-form expressions of ergodic capacity (EC) and outage probability (OP) for both NOMA and orthogonal multiple access (OMA) schemes. Further, we propose an improved ergodic capacity (IEC) NOMA algorithm, and terrestrial user equipments (UEs) can perform our IEC Hu-NOMA transmission according to their exponential distributed random service time, which can achieve higher EC, and have similar OP compared to the conventional OMA scheme but reduce half of the transmission time slot. Simulation results validate the accuracy of our theoretical derivations, and show that our IEC Hu-NOMA can outperform the state-of-art schemes.","PeriodicalId":313199,"journal":{"name":"GLOBECOM 2022 - 2022 IEEE Global Communications Conference","volume":"113 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-12-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117255188","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In previous literatures, AN is generally analyzed in multiple transmit antenna systems and is suppressed by zero-forcing algorithm, which is implemented by using the spatial degrees of freedom. In this paper, an AN suppression model under single-input multi-output (SIMO) systems is presented, and the impact of imperfect frequency synchronization on the AN suppressed performance is analyzed. Specifically, we first analyze the AN suppression performance of single branch with imperfect frequency synchronization. Then the output signal to interference plus noise ratio (SINR) after multi-branch merging is derived. Finally, the secrecy capacity of AN based on SIMO systems is extracted on the basis of the obtained SINR. Theoretical and simulation results show that imperfect frequency synchronization reduces the SINR of each branch, and thus degrades both the output SINR and secrecy capacity in SIMO systems. Moreover, when the residual AN power is greater than noise power, no diversity gain will be achieved by multi-branch merging.","PeriodicalId":313199,"journal":{"name":"GLOBECOM 2022 - 2022 IEEE Global Communications Conference","volume":"11 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-12-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129558582","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Semantic filtering is first performed to select the most useful realizations for each monitor. Packets are then encoded and sent so that each monitor can timely fulfill its goal. In this regard, some realizations are important for both monitors, while every other realization is informative for only one monitor. We determine the optimal real codeword lengths assigned to the selected packet arrivals in the sense of maximizing a weighted sum of semantics-aware utility functions for the two monitors. Our analytical and numerical results provide the optimal design parameters for different arrival rates and highlight the improvement in timely status update delivery using semantic filtering and source coding.","PeriodicalId":313199,"journal":{"name":"GLOBECOM 2022 - 2022 IEEE Global Communications Conference","volume":"26 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-12-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128500998","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Fair resource allocation is a primary concern in such computing paradigms. However, fairness is typically considered from the requester's perspective, whereas fairness for workers (i.e., EEDs) is mostly overlooked. In this context, we propose the Multitiered Worker-Oriented Resource Allocation (MWORA) scheme. In MWORA, the resource allocation problem is formulated as an Integer Linear Program (ILP). MWORA aims to maximize service capacity and minimize the task response delay while enabling fair resource allocation that maintains a specific satisfactory profit for workers. Such a satisfactory level is maintained to prevent the workers from leaving the system and ensure their recurrent subscription to the service. This is done while abiding by the deadline demanded by each requester and without exceeding a certain budget. MWORA also accounts for the fact that EEDs are user-owned devices and are thus subject to a dynamic user access behavior, which can affect the level of computational resources that workers are willing to offer. In particular, MWORA enables multitiered computational resources to be granted by each worker depending on the price of the allocated task. Extensive simulations have shown that MWORA outperforms other baseline resource allocation schemes regarding average response delay, service capacity, worker satisfaction ratio, and fairness.","PeriodicalId":313199,"journal":{"name":"GLOBECOM 2022 - 2022 IEEE Global Communications Conference","volume":"43 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-12-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128270113","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Specifically, we propose a heterogeneous aerial network (HetAN) consisting of a high-altitude base station (HBS) acting as a hub to provide wireless backhaul and multiple low-altitude BSs (LBSs) acting as access points to provide on-demand wireless coverage. Besides, we adopt the non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) technique for the uplink transmissions of the terrestrial users so as to support massive connections. Then, we formulate a joint power control, channel assignment, and rate control problem with the objective to maximize user connectivity and network throughput. Based on the graph methods and theoretical analysis, we propose an efficient iterative algorithm to solve the formulated problem. From a technical point of view, it is a very promising network architecture. A reasonable pricing mechanism can encourage internet service providers, content providers and users to participate in the operation and use of ICN, and convert ICN technical advantages into economic benefits, thereby promote the large-scale deployment of ICN. The current research focuses on ICN pricing to analyze the pricing mechanism on the internet service provider (ISP) side and the corresponding market equilibrium results. But the model of content providers (CPs) is usually relatively simple in this research. The model assumes the existence of one single CP operator, which will be very different from future deployment scenarios. Multiple CPs will introduce competition and stimulate end users to use ICN networks and ISPs to deploy ICN networks. Moreover, the relationship between CPs is not only competitive but also cooperative. This paper focuses on the complex relationship of competition and cooperation among multiple CPs, solves the non-cooperative game model based on game theory, and studies the interaction between cache and pricing strategies of ICN entities. The optimal cache share of ISPs and the optimal pricing of ISPs and CPs are obtained by establishing the optimal utility function of each entity. Finally, numerical analysis is performed to derive the utility function of ICN entities as the critical pricing and caching parameters change, while verifying the consistency with the equilibrium solution.","PeriodicalId":313199,"journal":{"name":"GLOBECOM 2022 - 2022 IEEE Global Communications Conference","volume":"35 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-12-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128662809","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Distributed intelligence, based on Reinforcement Learning (RL), particularly Q-Learning (QL), has been proposed as a potential direction. The distributed framework consists of independent QL agents, attempting to reach their own individual objectives. The agents need to learn using a sufficient number of training steps before they converge to the optimal performance. After convergence, they can take reliable management actions. However, the scalability of QL could be severely hindered, particularly in the convergence time - when the number of QL agents increases. To overcome the scalability issue of QL, in this paper, we explore the potentials of the Deep Q-Network (DQN) algorithm, a function approximation-based method. Results show that DQN outperforms QL by at least 37% in terms of convergence time. In addition, we highlight that DQN is prone to divergence, which, if solved, could rapidly advance distributed intelligence for 6G.","PeriodicalId":313199,"journal":{"name":"GLOBECOM 2022 - 2022 IEEE Global Communications Conference","volume":"35 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-12-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128673239","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper, we propose LIDAR Network (LidNet) to boost perception and motion prediction accuracy by redesigning MotionNet architecture. MotionNet is a new real-time encoder-decoder model that achieves joint perception and motion prediction at a pixel level. LidNet improves MotionNet performance by replacing every two spatial convolution layers in its encoder-decoder architecture with residual blocks and relies on average pooling rather than strided convolution for spatial reduction. In addition, we adjust the lateral skip connections linking encoders and decoders to result in a symmetric network. The global temporal maximum pooling layers on the lateral connections are replaced with temporal average pooling. Further, we introduce a center layer between the encoder-decoder architecture, with no spatial reduction applied at the lowest levels. Our extensive evaluation performed on the nuScenes dataset confirms that LidNet outperforms the state-of-the-art and operates in real-time.","PeriodicalId":313199,"journal":{"name":"GLOBECOM 2022 - 2022 IEEE Global Communications Conference","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-12-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130350178","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
