The contours of human bodies are extracted using image segmentation or background subtraction methods. The matching of contours is based on a locally affine invariant contour descriptor, which can approximate the articulated motion of human bodies. The matching algorithm using the descriptor is simple and fast, wherein an outlier rejection scheme using the geodesic distance along contours is also embedded, making it robust to self-occlusion and viewpoint changes of human poses. The proposed method can track articulated human motions with large degree of pose variations; this is superior to many marker-less human tracking algorithms in the literature. Real-world human motion sequences are tested to demonstrate the performance of the method.","PeriodicalId":309902,"journal":{"name":"2011 International Conference on Multimedia and Signal Processing","volume":"11 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-05-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126723191","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

And author also summarizes its advantage and disadvantage. With the main idea of attribute reduction on discernibility object pair and on the basis of simplified decision table, author defines a function, which can measure the number of discernibility object pair produced by conditional attribute set. And with this function, author designs a heuristic function and describes a fast algorithm about this heuristic function in detail. Then author uses this heuristic function to design an efficient algorithm of attribute reduction based on positive region. And at last, author uses an instance to illuminate that this new algorithm can efficiently eliminate the shortages, including too much time consumption, too much space consumption and low efficiency in computing discernibility matrix. Finally, author validates that this new algorithm has high efficiency in practice.","PeriodicalId":309902,"journal":{"name":"2011 International Conference on Multimedia and Signal Processing","volume":"6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-05-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114442611","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The inter-frame translation is estimated by multi-resolution pyramid matching with different bit-planes. To accelerate the search process, the initial search point is adaptively chosen based on the high correlation of adjacent blocks and father-children blocks. Furthermore, each block is judged to verify the motion accuracy to finish the search in advance. Then, the global translation is obtained according to the statistical clustering of all local motions. Lastly, the inter-frame motions are accumulated with a damping coefficient to provide the warping motion, which is compensated to realize stabilization. Experimental results show that the system shows good performance in speed with error below 0.5pixel. And it can smooth unwanted translation of video sequences at real-time speed.","PeriodicalId":309902,"journal":{"name":"2011 International Conference on Multimedia and Signal Processing","volume":"37 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-05-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122874539","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To improve the performance of the beamformer amid heavy-tailed impulsive noise of unknown statistics, this new algorithm put the weight vector to the noise subspace based on orthogonal projection principles after the input signal being infinity-norm snapshot-normalized. This NOP beamformer is versatile and robust in any impulsive-noise and non-stationary noise model, in the sense that this beamformer is not tailored specifically to any specific impulsive noise model. This new NOP beamformer has these advantages: (1) needing neither prior information nor estimation of the impulsive noise's effective characteristic exponent's numerical value, (2) applicable to a wider class of heavy-tailed impulsive noises, (3) providing lower sidelobe and (4) offering better interference-rejection. Monte-Carlo simulation results verify the validity and superiority of the proposed algorithm.","PeriodicalId":309902,"journal":{"name":"2011 International Conference on Multimedia and Signal Processing","volume":"64 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-05-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123606896","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

When a VCR-like operation (suchas random seek, pause, fast forward and rewind) is issued, if it is not properly handled users can hardly achieve smoothviewing experiences. Many existing schemes are proposed tosolve the problem induced by VCR-like operation, such as,by optimizing the index overlay to realize fast requestedcontent searching. However, most of these schemes haven'tconsidered the user's access pattern for different segments is non-uniformly distributed which is impractical. In this paper,we proposed BSLstream, a Biased Skip List based index overlay for P2P on-demand streaming. In BSLstream, we take the distribution of user's access pattern for different segments is non-uniform into account, make the more popular segments can be searched more quickly. Through rigorous analysis, the average search latency for a segment k of a video in BSLstream is O(log(r(k))), where r(k) is the rank of k's popularity to user, the search latency is bounded by the length of the video. Extensive simulations further demonstrate the efficiency of the proposed scheme.","PeriodicalId":309902,"journal":{"name":"2011 International Conference on Multimedia and Signal Processing","volume":"51 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-05-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117045751","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
