The initial MSER detector is merely appliedto intensity space. However, in some special cases whichcontain numerous data such as remote sensing, it is necessaryto acquire more information for more accurate analysis.Meanwhile, clouds and shadows detections of remote sensedimages are both fundamental and vital to accurateclassification and interpretation. Hence, this paper proposed anew method based on MSER to detect shadows and clouds inEnhanced Thematic Mapper Plus (ETM+) images, utilizingMSER in some particular spectrums with geographicalpractical backgrounds. In order to evaluate the effect ofMSER in different spectrum, several typical combinations ofbands were compared. A viable scheme to identify insect sounds automatically is proposed by using sound parameterization techniques that dominate speaker recognition technology. The acoustic signal is preprocessed, segmented into a series of sound samples. Mel-frequency cepstrum coefficient(MFCC) is extracted from the sound sample as sound features, and probabilistic neural network(PNN) is trained with given features. The testing samples are classified by the PNN finally. The proposed method is evaluated in a database with acoustic samples of 50 different insect sounds. The recognition rate was above 96%. The test results proved the efficiency of the proposed method.","PeriodicalId":309902,"journal":{"name":"2011 International Conference on Multimedia and Signal Processing","volume":"48 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-05-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114219370","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Whether license plate can be detected precisely or not may affect the whole system's efficiency. Existing algorithms based on gray image have a poor result when a complicated background or a blurred license plate occurs, while algorithms based on color space cannot deal with the situation where the car and the plate have the same color. In order to solve these problems, a new method based on Lab space is presented in the paper. Firstly an algorithm for determining plates' color is developed. Then for blue-plate-included images and yellow-plate-included images, threshold matrix is selected respectively, which offers possible optimal thresholds in turn. And then the true plate area is filtered in accordance with the license plate prior knowledge. To tackle the problem that the car and the plate have the same color, a method based on vertical edge analysis and character region mergence is proposed, which can realize the secondary license plate location for such images. Experiments show that this algorithm can overcome the limitations of both the color-based methods and the gray- based methods and is less time consuming.","PeriodicalId":309902,"journal":{"name":"2011 International Conference on Multimedia and Signal Processing","volume":"6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-05-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126983072","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In order to make kernel-methods-based feature extraction computationally more efficient, we propose a novel improvement to the kernel method. This improvement assumes that the discriminant vector in the feature space can be approximately expressed by a certain linear combination of some constructed virtual sample vectors. We determine these virtual sample vectors one by one by using a very simple and computationally efficient iterative algorithm. The algorithm is simple, robust and competitive. When we determine virtual sample vectors, we need only to set the initial values of the virtual sample vectors to random values. The experiments show that our method can achieve the goal of efficient feature extraction as well as a good and stable classification accuracy.","PeriodicalId":309902,"journal":{"name":"2011 International Conference on Multimedia and Signal Processing","volume":"93 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-05-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133798763","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, both patterns have some disadvantages: internal power storage mode cannot supply long-term power so that this mode limits the continuity of total system; infection is easily generated in a transcutaneous energy transmission system which brings numerous inconveniences to patients. In order to solve these problems, a novel contactless power supply system designed by our group, which transmits electric power for intracorporeal medical instrumentations from outside of the skin to inside. The novel power supply system consists of a pair of coupling permanent magnets mounted on a motor and a subminiature generator respectively. After electricity passes through a voltage doubling rectification circuit and a filter circuit, it is able to charge a battery pack and provide energy for intracorporeal medical instrumentations, such as blood pump. Output voltage (5.5v-10.5v) of this system has achieved the requirement of high safety. With a variation of input voltage from 12v to 13v, output voltage is stable relatively. And at the point of 12v, maximum efficiency is obtained. This system doesn't need external wire connection and avoids infection. Furthermore, this equipment of power supply expands the freedom of patients, doing certain activities and improving their life qualities.","PeriodicalId":309902,"journal":{"name":"2011 International Conference on Multimedia and Signal Processing","volume":"28 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-05-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117080496","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Firstly, general relation between bands is deduced in accordance with the high spectral correlation. Based on the relation, precompression algorithm is designed to segment bands of the images into groups and remove spectral correlation and spatial correlation within each group by extremely few bits consumption. Afterwards, algorithm based on 3D packet DWT is adopted subsequently for further compression. Experiments show that the proposed schemes derived from the new DWT-based framework can significantly improve performance compared with the best known techniques, especially at low bitrates. And the new framework has excellent extensibility.","PeriodicalId":309902,"journal":{"name":"2011 International Conference on Multimedia and Signal Processing","volume":"100 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-05-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124763612","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
