The paper provides background to the current study, refers to results and to further research possibilities. Previous research in the UK, in Europe, in Australasia and the USA has presented consistent findings of the obstacles to knowledge management implementation strategies. This Australian study reveals external obstacles to knowledge management that have not been found or discussed previously. These obstacles are outside the immediate control of the organisation itself, in that they are externally derived.

In order to achieve public reassurance, police forces all over the world are undertaking actions to involve citizens in crime prevention through community policing. In parallel, technological platforms were deployed in order to share crime-related information with the public and to support the development of problem-solving strategies. However, the impact of these initiatives in terms of crime reduction and perception has not been sufficiently investigated yet. Furthermore, up to now, no previous studies compared the effectiveness between the traditional approach of preventive patrolling and technology-based crime prevention solutions. Therefore, we present a study design which aims at assessing the effectiveness of the two aforementioned crime prevention measures. The goal is to evaluate and compare their effects over the local criminal activity and citizen’s safety perception measured by Fear of Crime (FOC) and Perceived Risk of Victimization (PRV) constructs. Preliminary results show a rather low level of FOC across the whole sample, paired by a high level of PRV. Furthermore, potential explanatory background factors for the previous constructs have been identified and will be explored in future work.

Despite these benefits, many research teams find themselves torn by competition, \u0000antagonism and resentment. Desire to be the first author and resultant underperformance of non-first co-authors is often at the root of these conflicts. At the same time little is known about what motivates \u0000researchers in general and IS researchers in particular to engage as first authors. To fill this gap, this study uses survey methodology to explore the attitudes of IS researchers and their resulting behavior when it comes to authors order. Qualitative and quantitative evidence collected from 398 IS \u0000researchers is used to support our analysis. We find that researchers’ desire to be the first authors is mainly driven by such determinants as career aspirations, visibility, leadership and sense of ownership, and less so by the desire to satisfy their self-esteem and self-actualization needs. In \u0000addition, the value placed on being the first author appears to be the function of researchers’ career level, with Ph.D. students attaching significantly higher value to it than senior scholars.

Based on the insights from general management literature, we define organizational unlearning as an intentional practice that organizations adopt to reduce the possible negative impacts of obsolete knowledge. Reviewing the IS literature based on the suggested definition, we identify four dominant views of unlearning, which are: individual forgetting, questioning and criticizing, stopping the application, and discarding. In order to expand and empirically ground the insights of the previous studies, we explore how organizations apply unlearning in the case of disruptive IT changes, through a multiple case study approach. The insight from the empirical study shows that organizations adopt a wide range of unlearning practices, in addition to practices that can be captured under the four views of unlearning in the IS literature. Moreover, our empirical investigation reveals six characteris...
