A two-dimensional topology – suggested in previous research was confirmed as a useful working paradigm for the architecture of international information systems. In terms of this model, such systems are configured from two elements: ‘core’ systems (common for the whole enterprise) on the one hand and ‘local’ systems (different for each site) on the other. One case vignette in particular highlights the logical and organisational difficulties in defining these systems elements. Object orientation is suggested as a fundamental design approach to provide a solution for this problem. Because it enables implementation differentiation and flexibility for future functional changes, it is conjectured that object technology is a useful – technical development strategy for international information systems. Directions for further research are outlined.","PeriodicalId":309896,"journal":{"name":"European Conference on Information Systems","volume":"34 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126129869","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

While prior research has identified the importance of the review process, there has been very little research on project postmortems on abandoned e-commerce projects. The case demonstrates six critical factors to conduct succesful project reviews, highlights cultural impacts that might influence their effectiveness and offers several important managerial guidelines. Finally, when analyzing mistakes and their principal causes, there is one important lesson that we should learn. That is, all organizations make mistakes and there is the potential for learning from abandonment experiences.","PeriodicalId":309896,"journal":{"name":"European Conference on Information Systems","volume":"42 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130950005","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Further, the classical in-house testing is restricted to the knowledge of a small set of solvers and thus is limited in terms of quality and efficiency. Recognizing this, the German start-up company, testCloud, implemented a crowdsourcing business model offering software companies the possibility to outsource their testing activities to a certain crowd. With this so-called ‘crowdtesting,’ testCloud facilitates companies in accessing a great number of cost-effective resources and using the collective intelligence of crowds. However, as an intermediary in a crowdsourcing business model, testCloud faces challenges from various directions: In its current form, testCloud’s testing offerings are too narrow as customers demand for testing services not solely around internet-based software but also for other kinds of software. On the other side, new mechanisms are necessary to keep the motivation of the continuously growing crowd high. The management of testCloud has decided to alter various aspects of their settlement process in order to be able to address the rising issues. By illustrating how testCloud currently manages its business process, this teaching case helps in understanding and analyzing the challenges of an intermediary in a crowdsourcing business model.","PeriodicalId":309896,"journal":{"name":"European Conference on Information Systems","volume":"9 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115419551","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Günther","doi":"10.7892/BORIS.47112","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.7892/BORIS.47112","url":null,"abstract":"When it comes to platform sustainability, mitigating user privacy concerns and enhancing trust represent two major tasks providers of Social Networking Sites (SNSs) are facing today. State-of-the-art research advocates reliance on the justice-based measures as possible means to address these challenges. However, as providers are increasingly expanding into foreign markets, the effectiveness of these measures in a cross-cultural setting is questioned. In an attempt to address this set of issues, in this study we build on the existing model to examine the impact of culture on the robustness of four justice-based means in mitigating privacy concerns and ensuring trust. Survey responses from German and Russian SNS members are used to evaluate the two structural equation models, which are then compared. We find that perceptions regarding Procedural and Informational Justice are universally important and hence should be addressed as part of the basic strategy by the SNS provider. When expanding to collectivistic countries like Russia, measures enhancing perceptions of Distributive and Interpersonal Justice can be additionally applied. Beyond practical implications, our study makes a significant contribution to the theoretical discourse on the role of culture in determining individual perceptions and behavior.","PeriodicalId":309896,"journal":{"name":"European Conference on Information Systems","volume":"74 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131476698","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
