This is done by looking at the theory behind intellectual property and licenses in their role of creating and maintaining the commons. This paper will also present the practical work in the form of describing a large-scale development project concerning the localisation of the creative commons licenses to the Swedish jurisdiction. The goal of this work is to provide practical and theoretical foundations in the study of the role of informational commons in the knowledge society.","PeriodicalId":309896,"journal":{"name":"European Conference on Information Systems","volume":"62 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2001-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126304168","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper describes the search for a research agenda in this fast developing area. Important issues were identified through a general review of the KM literature followed by a survey of business practitioners, consultants and academics at a one‐day conference dedicated to the subject. The investigation was carried out in the context of a feasibility study for a proposed KM Centre at Henley Management College in the UK. The survey followed an interpretivist approach employing open‐ended questions that sought to establish important issues in KM and to examine the benefits that participants would seek from a such a forum of practitioners and academics. A conceptual framework of disciplines and key topics was developed from the literature review and applied to the issues identified in the survey. The results point towards three areas of significant interest, namely: (i) implementation issues, (ii) best practice, and (iii) measurement. Additionally, the nature of the fast evolving field of knowledge management points to the need for more interactive research that brings together the different players in the field into a tighter and faster learning cycle.","PeriodicalId":309896,"journal":{"name":"European Conference on Information Systems","volume":"84 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2000-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122657915","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Much of this research focussed on standardisation and technical realizations. We will describe such a research effort in this paper, and evaluate its success. Our main finding is that the lack of success of this specific research effort is mainly due to its technological bias. Although standards (both conceptual and technical) are important prerequisites for the realisation of an EPR, organisational issues are decisive for success. The role played by these organisational issues will be illustrated by analysing the findings of the case study presented in the paper. We will argue that research on EPR’s should be more focussed on the role of an EPR as an organisational artefact that co-ordinates the work of health care professionals, in order to lead to successfull implementations.","PeriodicalId":309896,"journal":{"name":"European Conference on Information Systems","volume":"149 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2000-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115993453","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Explores them from the political perspective of securing identities. Uses two recent case studies of Australian organisations to illustrate this. Argues that myths often serve to secure the identities of groups of employees. The use of the myths provides a way of exploring the political nature of IS development and management. IS departments often portray the image of being technical departments which rely on technical tools and techniques. In reality, it can be seen from the two case studies that the organisations have a number of informal approaches in the development and management of IT which in some cases can be described as being politically staged.","PeriodicalId":309896,"journal":{"name":"European Conference on Information Systems","volume":"21 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1998-02-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133244860","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

SNCF bought it for 1.3 billion Francs in 1989, with an expected yearly return on investment of 600 million Francs. The main purpose of introducing SOCRATE was to accommodate the expected huge increase in French railway traffic: 140 million reservations were expected in 1995 compared with 40 million one decade before. But as soon as it was introduced, SOCRATE generated chaos in railway stations and it soon became a national issue. The conclusion of an investigation was that the system was not properly working and bad to be modified as soon as possible. How can it happen that on the one hand SABRE provided American Airlines with a competitive strategic advantage, but on the other hand its customized version, SOCRATE, led to a decrease in traffic of 5.9% for the first semester of 1993 for SNCF? Why can SOCRATE be regarded as one of the best examples of what should be avoided in the process of implementing a new system? Which main factors caused the poor image of SOCRATE in SNCF? Did the image of SNCF in French society change due to the introduction of SOCRATE? In the paper, the authors attempt to give answers to these questions.","PeriodicalId":309896,"journal":{"name":"European Conference on Information Systems","volume":"19 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1996-03-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134548993","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It analyzes the motivation and technical viability of these fears and derives suggestions for privacy-friendly technology design. The analysis shows that all consumer fears currently debated are essentially justified, because from a technical perspective they can all be implemented in the short- or mid-term. A 7-point plan of technological measures is presented that should be taken into consideration and developed further by standardization bodies, researchers and governments in order to impede potential abuses of the technology in the long term.","PeriodicalId":309896,"journal":{"name":"European Conference on Information Systems","volume":"87 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124925488","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Yet, we know little about the circumstances under which organizations choose multisourcing. In this paper, we draw on incomplete contracting theory and the knowledge-based view to explain multisourcing decisions in application projects. We test our model using a comprehensive dataset of 1093 sourcing decisions made by Swiss public organizations. The results provide strong support for the model. We find that clients choose multisourcing more frequently when (1) the project is large, (2) the software is client-specific and the project is large enough, (3) client and vendor lack joint experience, (4) the client seeks knowledge, (5) the technology is not proprietary, and (6) the client is experienced in outsourcing. While these findings support common views that clients choose multisourcing in response to opportunistic threats and to knowledge needs, the findings also shed light on prerequisites for multisourcing.","PeriodicalId":309896,"journal":{"name":"European Conference on Information Systems","volume":"15 2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123744432","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The theory of innovation diffusion is used to guide the research accomplished via a survey method. Research findings included in this paper highlight the use of E-Gov service at three levels of administration by urban citizens in Australia and the usefulness of bundled services offering a one stop shop for citizens. Findings discussed in this paper also highlight that factors such as cost and time saving, convenience and online tracking facility significantly impact the adoption of E-Gov services by citizens. It also suggests that the level and frequency of E-Gov service use and access is dependent on the regularity of its need by citizens. Access to technology, socio-economic status and level of education also influence E-Gov adoption by citizens.","PeriodicalId":309896,"journal":{"name":"European Conference on Information Systems","volume":"89 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132067934","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
