However, in the last two decades, there has been an increase in the number of people immigrating to Finland than those emigrating. With the increasing cultural and ethnic diversity, the country’s migration policies have attempted to accommodate immigrants even in the face of homogenous nationalism. This study examines the limits of multiculturalism and ethnic diversity and how it affects the social integration of immigrants into Finnish society. Based on the current population dynamics of Finland, there is tension between increasing multiculturalism and a native approach that informs the homogenous representation of the Finnish identity. There are clearly limits to which immigrants can express their cultural identity and conditions to which a middle ground for social integration between immigrants and Finnish citizens can be reached. With the aid of semi-structured interviews, this study seeks to obtain an empirical evaluation of the experiences of immigrants in the process of settling and socially integrating into Finnish society.  Article visualizations:","PeriodicalId":309514,"journal":{"name":"European Journal of Social Sciences Studies","volume":"205 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134555185","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The thrust of the study was qualitative and semi-structured questionnaires were used to collect data from 30 purposively selected SME owners. Through thematic analysis, the findings revealed that SMEs without technological gadgets faced an array of challenges such as poor communication with business partners, inability to view business transactions, delay in making payments, high operational costs, difficulty in advertising products, and failure to place orders on time. From the research, it was concluded that the COVID-19 pandemic exposed the digital divide amongst SMEs, as those without the technological gadgets and the requisite skills were either forced to close or had minimal business transactions. The study recommended that deliberate policies be put in place to equip SME owners with technological gadgets and internet facilities at subsidised rates and offer free training to prepare SMEs for the digital world.  Article visualizations:","PeriodicalId":309514,"journal":{"name":"European Journal of Social Sciences Studies","volume":"87 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122599395","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Quantitative analyses indicated that the women perceived more benefits (role expansion) than costs (role conflict) related to their employment even within the context of their parenting role. Qualitative data provided a more nuanced account as the women described both benefits and costs associated with possessing multiple roles, some they perceived as unique to their culture, others they perceived as being universal for all women. This work highlights the importance of understanding work-family balance and perceptions of maternal employment within non-Western, traditional cultures where women’s entry into the workforce is more recent and non-normative. Our participants’ voices add to the literature significantly by examining the real-time experiences of women who are actively breaking traditional gender norms from within a traditional society and who are on the front lines of societal change.מחקר זה מספק תובנה מחוויותיהן של נשים ערביות בעלות קריירה, החיות בתרבות מזרח תיכונית מסורתית שבה רוב הנשים (כמעט 65%) אינן מועסקות מחוץ לבית. 287 נשים ערביות דיווחו על חוויותיהן האישיות שלהן בגישור בין קריירה, אחריות משפחתית ואחריות חברתית מתוך תרבות שבה קריירת נשים אינה נורמטיבית ונתונה לחוסר הסכמה חברתית משמעותית. ניתוחים כמותיים הצביעו על כך שהנשים תפסו יותר תועלת (הרחבת תפקיד) מאשר עלויות (קונפליקט תפקידים) הקשורות לעבודתן גם בהקשר של תפקידן ההורי. נתונים איכותיים סיפקו תיאור שונה במידה מה , שכן הנשים תיארו הן יתרונות והן עלויות הקשורות לבעלי תפקידים מרובים, חלקם נתפסו כייחודיים לתרבותם, אחרים נתפסו כאוניברסליים עבור כל הנשים. מחקר זה מדגיש את החשיבות של הבנת האיזון בין עבודה למשפחה ותפיסות של תעסוקת אימהות בתוך תרבויות מסורתיות לא מערביות שבהן כניסת נשים לשוק העבודה היא דבר חדש ולא נורמטיבי. הקולות של המשתתפים שלנו מוסיפים לספרות באופן משמעותי על ידי בחינת החוויות בזמן אמת של נשים ששוברות ,באופן פעיל, נורמות מגדר מסורתיות מתוך חברה מסורתית ושנמצאות בחזית השינוי החברתי.  Article visualizations:","PeriodicalId":309514,"journal":{"name":"European Journal of Social Sciences Studies","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-12-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130355305","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Il s’agit de l’incivilité, de la perte de l’autonomie politique et de la détérioration du corps politique. A ces différentes formes de corruption qui proviennent essentiellement des passions humaines et de l’Église, Machiavel a proposé des solutions qui sont à la fois politiques et civiles. A la lumière de l’actualité socio-politique et du fait que les passions humaines soient toujours les mêmes, il est aisé de comprendre que les idées et pensées machiavéliennes afférentes à la corruption politique sont d’une actualité certaine et, de ce fait, elles peuvent permettre aux hommes modernes de lutter efficacement contre ce mal politique qu’est la corruption politique. In the political work of Machiavelli, we discover three forms of political corruption. These are incivility, loss of political autonomy and deterioration of the body politic. To these different forms of corruption which come essentially from human passions and from the Church, Machiavelli proposed solutions which are both political and civil. In the light of socio-political news and the fact that human passions are always the same, it is easy to understand that the Machiavellian ideas and thoughts relating to political corruption are flagrantly topical and, therefore, they can enable modern men to fight effectively against this political evil which is political corruption.  Article visualizations:","PeriodicalId":309514,"journal":{"name":"European Journal of Social Sciences Studies","volume":"11 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-12-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115373665","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The novel COVID-19 pandemic that peaked in 2020 led to protocols that reduced social contact and relationships. When schools closed, students had less time to talk to each other, hurting their friendships and ability to learn. This study examined the impact of COVID-19 on Abetifi Presbyterian SHS students' social connectedness just after the easing of the lockdown restrictions. The study adopted a qualitative research methodology with an interpretivist viewpoint encapsulated within the inductive epistemological framework. Purposive and convenience sampling techniques were employed to interview 40 students (SHS 1, 2, and 3). According to the findings of the study, COVID-19 made it more difficult for students to have social contact, making learning more difficult. The study further revealed that the closure of schools for several months limited students' close ties and social relationships. The study also indicated that peer connections and interactions had become weaker and more strained during the peak season of COVID-19. The findings have ramifications for managing COVID-19 and future pandemics and understanding social relationships amongst social actors. Educational governing authorities like the Ministry of Education and the Ghana Education Service should maintain educational programmes that seek to rebuild social bonds damaged by pandemics.  Article visualizations:","PeriodicalId":309514,"journal":{"name":"European Journal of Social Sciences Studies","volume":"34 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-12-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121588591","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The results showed that the bullies to a small extent acknowledged that they became bullies because they felt powerful, because they like to dominate/oppress others, because they wanted recognition of their authority from their classmates, because they were afraid of becoming victims and because they had had previously been victims of bullying (in all cases the average value is equal to 2.0). Also, the results showed that the most important reason that pushed the bullies to bully was some particular characteristic of the victim (Mean=3.0, SD=1.0) and to a lesser extent identity -ethnicity, race, sexual orientation- (Mean=2.0, SD=1.0, Mean=2.0, SD=1.0, Mean=2.0, SD=1.0) respectively. According to the perpetrators, they bullied more often boys (Mean=3.0, SD=2.0), and students of their school (Mean=3.0, SD=2.0). Finally, it emerged that the most frequent form of bullying was derogatory comments (Mean=3.0, SD=2.0) followed by physical violence (Mean=2.0, SD=1.0).  Article visualizations:","PeriodicalId":309514,"journal":{"name":"European Journal of Social Sciences Studies","volume":"18 4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-12-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123867395","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In addition, the representation of women academics in administrative positions and positions of power in the academic field is investigated along with the potential existence of sex discrimination. The findings from related scientific studies are in agreement on the following: (a) women faculty members in the international field continue to be found lower down the academic hierarchy compared to their male counterparts. This is due to the fact that they face various challenges, the most significant of which is the lack of balance between their professional and social roles. These challenges hinder their progression and permanence in the academic field. (b) Women academics globally are under-represented and are in a minority in administrative positions within the university field. The factors that deter women faculty members from taking up or going after administrative positions are mainly linked to gender stereotypes and attitudes that predominate in the academic field regarding leadership style. And (c) gender inequality and sex discrimination continue to exist in the international university field. However, their extent is linked to the national–cultural factors of the various nations.  Article visualizations:","PeriodicalId":309514,"journal":{"name":"European Journal of Social Sciences Studies","volume":"3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-12-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115330758","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In fact, dry soils have no time to soak heavy rains that fall quickly, the groundwater resources are not replenished and the aquifers are declining. At the same time, flood prone areas may suffer floods. Notoriously, this is already happening. In the meanwhile shrinking glaciers, and dam reservoirs that lose storage capacity as a consequence of sediment accumulation, further limit water availability downstream. In addition, coastal areas deprived of the sediments trapped in the reservoirs, undergo land losses; the Mississippi river delta has already lost 4,800 km², an area roughly the size of Delaware. The siltation of dam reservoirs can be mitigated; in this regard, several techniques are presented. The intensive exploitation of an aquifer, combined with a limited replenishment, may result in, e.g. land subsidence and seawater intrusion. Several techniques aimed at enhancing the recharge of aquifers, harvesting rainwater and saving water are presented in the article. Urban structures, such as rain gardens, bioswales, permeable asphalt and permeable pavements allow rainwater to infiltrate into the soil, thus recharging aquifers and mitigating overland runoff and floods. Several documents presented in the article deal with improving the liveability of cities, increasingly crowded and hot, thanks to a more efficient water management and planting trees. Our dietary choices, the clothes we wear and the food we waste have an influence on the overexploitation of water resources, sometimes in producing countries very far away from our country.  Article visualizations:","PeriodicalId":309514,"journal":{"name":"European Journal of Social Sciences Studies","volume":"75 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-12-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131083080","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
