It was conducted to investigate difficulties encountered by Non-English Department students in speaking. The participants were 15 students from the second semester of Indonesian Department Muhammadiyah University of Mataram. It also aims to investigate the factors which are face by Non-English department students in Speaking English. This research used descriptive quantitative approach. Based on the data from test the difficulties encountered by a second-year student of Indonesian department are first was from the grammar aspect, there were 80% of students almost entirely inaccurate expect in stock phrases. Second, fluency aspect, there were 73% speech is very slow and uneven except, for short or routine sentences. Third, it is the pronunciation aspect; there were 73% of students gross error, and very heavy accent makes understanding difficult require frequent repetition. Fourth is from the vocabulary aspect there were 60% of students their vocabulary limited to basic personal and survival areas. The last it is from comprehension aspect there 55% of students understand only slow, very simple speech on common social and touristic topics; requires constant repetition and rephrasing. Factors were faced by Non-English department student in speaking English there are two factors, from internal factors and external factors. Internal factors such as they are a quiet person; they are hard to learn, difficult to remember vocabulary, difficult to pronounce the word, lack of grammatical mastery, they are lazy to memorize vocabulary, they are lack of confidence and fear of making a mistake. The objective of this research was to find out the effect of Origami in teaching writing procedure text. Method design this research was a true-experimental method. The population of this research was the second year students of SMA Muhammadiyah Mataram in Academic year 2016/2017. This study the writer took all population as the samples that consisted of 38 students. Because the population less than 100, they divided into two classes, namely experimental class 21 and control class 17. The writer collected the data using the testing method pre and post-test. According to Hughes rubric and t-test formula theory. The result of this research showed that the mean score of experimental group 9.5 and the mean score of control group 2.9. Based on t-test it showed that t- value 11.9 and after consulting to t-table, the t-value was higher than t- table. To conclude origami teaching and learning is more effective to improve students’ writing procedure text, this can be seen from the results of test score, it shows that the experimental class which was given treatment using origami teaching and learning got a higher score than control class without taught by used origami teaching and learning method. Besides the origami could improve the students’ motivation, the origami could attract the students’ attention, the origami help the students to memorize the vocabulary and the origami make the teaching and learning activities interesting. Presentation in which the writer presented the materials by using origami as media the students clearly and easily to understand. To analyze the data Based on Louis (2005:181). This study used observation and video recording as an instrument of data collection, the researcher applied coding system. In this research, there are two validity principles applied by the researcher. The results of the research show that there are three classifications of speech act performed by the Teachers in the aching and learning process . The results of the research show that there are three classification of speech act performed by the Teachers in the aching and learning process. they are 4 data of locutionary act , 30 data of Illucotionary act, 7 data of Perlocutionary act . Deriving from the importance of pronunciation, the main purpose of the current study is to investigate the use of Testing, Demonstrating, Practicing and Revising (TDPR) technique to improve the students’ ability in pronouncing plosive consonants. Based on the purpose of the study, a series of classroom activities with TDPR technique was done. In gathering the data, the researcher applied a quasi-experimental research method. Pre-test and post-test were distributed to 72 students of SMKN 1 Praya Tengah. The result of the study has revealed that there was a significant difference between the mean of pre-test and the post-test, t-test 5.10 ˃ t-table 1.994, it means that the null hypothesis (Ho) is rejected meanwhile alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted. This research was aimed to find out the use of authentic material in teaching vocabulary. The population of this study is the first grader of SMAN 1 Batukliang which consist of two classes, and the researcher took two classes as the sample, they were class X.1 consist of 30 students, and class X.3 consist of 30 students, the total number of both classes were 60 students. The data in this study were gathered from the pre-test and post-test which given to the experimental and control group before and after treatment was done. In this research, the researcher computed the data by using the t-test formula. After collecting and calculating the data, the researcher found that the mean score of pre-test and post-test for the experimental group were 58.4 and 72, while for the control group were 53 and 61.8. And in testing the hypothesis, the researcher used the t-test formula. The researcher found that t-test was 68.5 and t-table in significant rank 0.05 (5%) was 1.6716. It proved that t-test was higher than t-table (6.073 > 1.6716). The alternative hypothesis was accepted. To increase the student’s vocabulary, the writer chosen game. A game is an alternative way to teach. One of the alternative games is a charades game. So, based on it the aim of this study is to investigate the effect of charades game toward student’s vocabulary. This study was conducted at the first-grade students of SMPN 18 Mataram in academic year 2017/2018. This study used a quasi-experimental design that is used pre-test and post-test control group design. The population of study involved 40 students from two classes SMPN 18 Mataram in academic year 2017/2018. The writer took all of the students as a sample, and they are 20 students belong to the experimental group and 20 students in the control group. In this study, the writer used the vocabulary test consists of 20 items multiple choice covered with the indicator of vocabulary consist of spelling, pronunciation, and meaning. The result of this study, the students could understand spelling, pronunciation, and meaning and they could answer the test vocabulary easily through charades game. In this data, pre-test, and post-test as the research technique of data collection, then followed by analyzing the data using the t-test formula. The level of significance is at 0, 05%, t-test = 2,99 and t-table= 2,02, Alternative Hypothesis (Ha) was accepted and Null Hypothesis (Ho) was rejected. It means that there was a significant difference between the student's pre-test and post-test scores. The method of this research was qualitative. The result of this research showed that students were followed the maxim of quantity is 60 utterances, followed the maxim of quality is 16 utterances, followed the maxim of relevant is 24 utterances, and followed the maxim of manner is 6 utterances. Violated maxim of quantity is 47 utterances, violated maxim of quality is 27 utterances, violated maxim of relevant is 50 utterances and violated manner is 89 utterances. This research focused on the purpose of investigated kinds of grammatical error made by facebook user. The method used a descriptive qualitative method where the instrument employed to collect the data. The total number involved in the group of English Department UMM were 136 members who are consisted of 10 lectures and 126 students. As a result of this study, the researcher found out four kinds of errors were classified into Omission error, Addition error, Misformation error, and Misordering error. The highest rank of their error was Omission and Misformation error (16,4%), the second rank was Addition error (10,8%), the lowest rank was Misordering error (2,8%). The purpose of the study is to know the effect of using Blended Learning technique in teaching reading at the second-grade student of Man 2 Model Mataram. The research method was quasi-experimental research with nonequivalent control group design. The population of the research was of the conducted of two classes as the sample; Experimental group (XI IS 2) and control group ( XI IS 1 ). XI IS 2 was taught by using Blended learning technique of reading while XI IS 1 was taught without Blended learning technique of reading. The researcher gave reading the test to gather the data. The formula that used to analyze the data was t-test. It is supposed to know the significant difference between students’ score in the experimental group and control group. Based on the types of semantic change, they are divided into four types namely generalization, specialization, pejoration and amelioration. This research aims to analyze semantic change by characters on the film The King’s Speech written by David Seidler to find the types of semantic change by using qualitative research, and the data were collected through the film script especially from the characters in the film. Based on the findings of the study, the researcher found two semantic change such as the semantic change of generalization reaches the highest number with 10 data (62.5%). It implies that the characters in the film gave the words which were containing the meaning of a word is broadening to include new concepts. The range of its meaning increases so that the word can be used in various contexts with a broader meaning than its neutral one. The semantic change of specialization with 6 data (37.5%). It implies that the characters in the film gave the words which were containing the meaning of the word is narrowed into the same class.
