The main goal is to eliminate the communication cost by replacing cellular connection by Wi-Fi. Therefore, the system is equipped with a Wi-Fi transceiver that allows transferring the trip data from the moving logger to a stationary off-road host station. Mathematical models for data size, transfer time, location logging resolution are proposed. System design and implantation are reported. The paper also presents the a practical field test case of a full data transfer cycle at velocity of 40 km/h. results show the feasibility of the proposed system in serving groups of touring cyclists who move in moderate speeds.","PeriodicalId":309250,"journal":{"name":"2017 UKSim-AMSS 19th International Conference on Computer Modelling & Simulation (UKSim)","volume":"380 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-04-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122922305","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Many Building Management Systems (BMS) control actuators based on the temperature in the zone they serve. There is limited consideration of the effect on ambient temperature of such actions. This work proposes a hierarchical directed artificial neural network which optimises ambient temperature for open plan areas. The approach uses a multi-phase Artificial Neural Network (ANN). Two architectural components are introduced an Agent ANN (A-ANN) and a Coordinating ANN (C-ANN). The Agent ANNs (A-ANN) are deployed to provide temperature control at the extremities of the open plan area. The A-ANN operates with a degree of autonomy. A Coordinating ANN (C-ANN) considers the optimal ambient temperature of the entire open plan area and influences the decisions of individual A-ANNs in order to achieve a collectively balanced temperature. Results are presented which baseline the operation of A-ANN instances in varying environmental conditions.","PeriodicalId":309250,"journal":{"name":"2017 UKSim-AMSS 19th International Conference on Computer Modelling & Simulation (UKSim)","volume":"3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-04-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123772253","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Holdout, 2-fold and 10-fold cross validation techniques are used for classification of images by using Support Vector Machine classifier. Haar Wavelet and Radon Transform does not reduce the dimensions of input data, hence Principle Component Analysis is applied to reduce the dimensionality. Fusion is established by concatenation of all the features of Radial Harmonic Fourier Moment, and Local Binary Pattern and selected features of Haar Wavelet Radon Transform. Experimental results verify that fused technique represents an improvement in accuracy.","PeriodicalId":309250,"journal":{"name":"2017 UKSim-AMSS 19th International Conference on Computer Modelling & Simulation (UKSim)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-04-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130086153","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This implies a detailed schedule of plants and devices (washing machines, electrical vehicles, etc.) according to forecasting of loads and renewables. The behavior of “active buildings” strongly affects the electrical grid and its consequent management in terms of power quality and costs. In this work, a system composed by buildings electrically interconnected is considered. Each one has a storage system, renewables, and needs to satisfy electrical and thermal demands. An architecture based on Model Predictive Control is proposed, in which, first, an upper decision maker solves an optimization problem to minimize its own costs and power losses, and provides references for power exchanges with buildings that respect power flow constraints. Then, consumers, on the basis of more detailed local information, manage storage systems and devices in order to follow the reference values, to contain costs, and to achieve comfort requirements. The architecture is applied to a case study in Genoa Municipality","PeriodicalId":309250,"journal":{"name":"2017 UKSim-AMSS 19th International Conference on Computer Modelling & Simulation (UKSim)","volume":"10 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-04-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130323892","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Routing protocol and algorithm are determining of selecting a path for traffic in networks. However, we define the problem of transmission delay for unicast and multicast traffic with designing algorithms. To realize such design, especially for backbone IP networks that can be represented by M/M/1 queue model. {"title":"An Inductance Tracking Based Sensorless Method for Detecting the Rotor Position of Switched Reluctance Motor","authors":"M. Moussa","doi":"10.1109/UKSim.2017.43","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.1109/UKSim.2017.43","url":null,"abstract":"Switched reluctance motors are expected to be good candidates in machine drives due to their simple structure. Detection of SRM rotor position is mandatory to effectively control the motion of the motor and commutate the rotor current correctly. However, the detection of the rotor position is done by either adding extra sensors or complicated mathematical calculations that need powerful computers that afford the huge calculation burden. In spite of many methods proposed to eliminate the rotor position sensor, which is needed to commutate the current correctly, research effort is still needed to improve the machine performance. This paper presents a sensorless method for the detection of rotor position method. The proposed method is based on measuring the current of some unexcited rotor phases. This is translated into better reliability due to the reduced number of measuring devices. Moreover, the proposed technique is independent of motor parameters and at the same time it is formed from simple calculations which renders its application to wide range of SRM achieving a more compact and cost-effective drive. The performance of the proposed technique is assessed by means of offline simulations as well as experimental prototypes. The simulation as well as experimental results proves the accuracy of the proposed detection technique.","PeriodicalId":309250,"journal":{"name":"2017 UKSim-AMSS 19th International Conference on Computer Modelling & Simulation (UKSim)","volume":"40 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-04-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132362511","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, it is not possible to measure global solar radiation in many areas due to cost and maintenance of the measuring equipment. At this point, the relationship between global solar radiation and sunshine duration plays an important role. This paper presents a new model, as well as eight models which presented in the literature for estimating global solar radiation on the horizontal surface using only sunshine duration. This new model is called reverse model. The estimation of global solar radiation is based on measured global horizontal irradiance data collected in Tripoli (lat. , long. ), Libya during 2015 and measured every 1 minute. The performance of the models is evaluated using statistical error tests. The results show that the linear and reverse models presented favourable efficiency, and logarithmic model showed the least accurate model.","PeriodicalId":309250,"journal":{"name":"2017 UKSim-AMSS 19th International Conference on Computer Modelling & Simulation (UKSim)","volume":"37 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-04-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115070161","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
