Old age, repeat play and improper preservation always deteriorate the film, dust and mechanical operations produce artifacts like scratches and blotches. This paper presents an automatic scratch detection and removal approach. An accurate wavelet method is introduced to automatically detect the scraches and a new nonlinear continued fraction method dealing with both spatical and temporal information around the scratch is investigated in the restoration stage. In our experiment results, we show that our scheme not only obtains more accurate detection of scratches, but also gives better video quality.","PeriodicalId":308799,"journal":{"name":"2012 Fourth International Conference on Digital Home","volume":"25 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-11-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127926017","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper, we propose a new saliency detection model based on graph Laplacian computation. This new model has two key steps: firstly, we use an image matting Laplacian model for locating the preliminary visual saliency region. Then, an unsupervised feature selection method in CIELab space is used to improve the accuracy of salient object detection. Experimental results show that the new algorithm can achieve better performance than the existing state of the art.","PeriodicalId":308799,"journal":{"name":"2012 Fourth International Conference on Digital Home","volume":"46 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-11-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115879622","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The idea is to transform the mesh segmentation as a spectral graph partition problem. The nodes of the graph represent faces in the mesh, the weights on the edges connecting nodes represent the similarities between faces. We then exact some geometric features for each face in the mesh to build weighted matrix. By performing multi-way spectral cut of the graph, we can find an optimal segmentation for the input mesh and apply the graph cut method to refine the boundaries between the segments. Finally we evaluate our approach on the Princeton shape benchmark and compare to other existing segmentation algorithm.","PeriodicalId":308799,"journal":{"name":"2012 Fourth International Conference on Digital Home","volume":"22 3 Suppl 7 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-11-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122220941","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Typically, they are extracted by tracking feature points with the KLT tracker or matching SIFT descriptors between frames. However, trajectory can be due to the action of interest, but also be caused by background or the camera motion. To overcome the problem, human detection is applied to roughly estimate of the location of the human in the video and segment video into Foreground/Background regions. In many cases, human actions can be identified not only by observing human body in motion, but also properties of the surrounding scene. In our work, we addresse the problem and propose an approach that integrates multiple features from scene and people. We evaluate our video description with a bag of-features model. We also present experimental results on two datasets with an increasing degree of difficulty and demonstrate significant improvements.","PeriodicalId":308799,"journal":{"name":"2012 Fourth International Conference on Digital Home","volume":"129 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-11-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124652068","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The paper describes a complete abstraction framework for static and dynamic images that explicitly responds to this goal, stylizes the corresponding salient and non-salient part differently by an edge preserving filter at a time while keep harmonious transition between the two parts. First, this paper introduces an automatic salient object segmentation algorithm to distinguish salient regions, and it is a saliency computation based local spatial neighbors. Taking into account the actual needs, the paper provides an interactive technology, this can be convenient for specifying image salient structure information on purpose. Based on the generated salient information mask, the paper then uses single-scale an isotropic filter to process the salient part, and use multi-scale an isotropic filter to process the non-salient part so that can implement a strong abstraction effect. Proposed method generates a kind of image and video abstraction that it represents a preferable visual effect. Experiments show that our algorithm could get the desired effect for processing a certain number of images and videos.","PeriodicalId":308799,"journal":{"name":"2012 Fourth International Conference on Digital Home","volume":"52 46","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-11-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"120809081","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

For example they do not support the interaction style of direct manipulation. Recent advances of the marker less motion capture technology make it possible to do body gesture interaction conveniently in digital home and life, especially in TV-based applications. However, there are few established conventions in body gesture design for such applications. In this paper, we report a guess ability study on eliciting intuitive gestures from non-professional users to perform tasks in TV based applications in a setting mimicking living rooms. Our results show that consensus exists among subjects. With this study, we present a taxonomy for body gestures, an end-user gesture set, qualitative observations, and implications for gesture design.
