The purpose of this study was to reveal the heroic journey process of main character of Spirited Away anime named Chihiro, based on the Hero’s Journey theory proposed by Vogler. Data about Chihiro's heroic journey are obtained from anime with note taking techniques. The method used in the analysis is the method of content analysis based on the theory of Hero's Journey. From the results of the analysis, it can be seen that the main character Chihiro has undergone a total of the twelve stages of the hero’s journey. Chihiro's adventure has succeeded in changing her personality which was initially timid, spoiled, and whiny to be brave, independent, calm and confident, and full of compassion. Chihiro's heroic journey proves the true definition of a hero according to Vogler, while also proving that to win a fight does not always use physical strength. There are times when thinking intelligence and emotional intelligence are much more needed. In addition, this anime also features a lot of kamisama which was once believed by the Japanese. Miyazaki might want to remind again about the existence of Japanese gods by displaying them in this anime, either those actually found in Japanese mythology or Miyazaki's own creations. Thus, the story of Spirited Away which has a mythical structure as stated by Vogler becomes much more alive and interesting.","PeriodicalId":30867,"journal":{"name":"Izumi","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-05-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.14710/IZUMI.8.1.52-64","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"48687266","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The aim was to analyse the representation of the state of the natural environment and the hometown in the lyrics of Japanese children's songs and the value that Japanese society inculcates to their children in relation to the natural environment. The two songs chosen were furusato and kokyou no sora. As a qualitative-descriptive study, this paper focuses on the intertextual discussion using the coherence approach of Ramlan (1993) and the semantic product of Burnett (2003). The result are a representation of the natural environment for the Japanese society in two douyou consisting of a thick traditionality, a place of longing, a place where family and friends live, a place to return home, a place that is beautiful and blends with nature, a comfortable and beautiful place. Then the values embedded in his children consist of emotional semantics, empirical semantics, origin semantics, contextual semantics, and functional semantics.","PeriodicalId":30867,"journal":{"name":"Izumi","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-05-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.14710/IZUMI.8.1.9-19","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"44156800","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Kamigami no Bishou was created by Akutagawa in 1922 which tells the meeting of Organtino, a Christian missionary in Japan with an old man who was the embodiment of one of Japan's ancient gods. The purpose of this article is to reveal how the clash of cultures between the West and Japan was reconstructed in Kamigami no Bishou short stories. To achieve this goal, the following steps are taken. First, an explanation of the terms contained in the Kamigami no Bishou Short Story. Second, explained the actions of two figures in the short story that are in opposition to the Greimas model's official scheme because this scheme can make it easier to understand the actions and motivations of the characters. Third, the analysis of one of the short story structural elements is a theme with the aim of understanding the essence and purpose of the entire short story. Fourth, further explanation about the reconstruction of Western versus Japanese cultural clash which is explained by the presentation of binary opposition. After going through all four stages, it was concluded that the reconstruction of cultural clash in Kamigami no Bishou short stories was presented by Akutagawa in a conversation between the Organtino character and the old male character. Through a dialogue centered on Deus versus Ohirume carried out by Organtino figures and old male figures, Akutagawa indirectly wanted to convey the message that Japanese tradition and culture would not be destroyed due to influences from foreign cultures that entered. ","PeriodicalId":30867,"journal":{"name":"Izumi","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-12-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.14710/IZUMI.7.2.94-106","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"43563488","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
