For this, we worked with a collection of CT isolates obtained from three commercial broiler farms during 2015. The presence of 10 genes related to CT virulence was examined with a PCR reaction. The results showed a prevalence of 100% for flaA and flhA; 91% cadF, 51% cdtABC, 48% iam, 46% racR, 32% ciaB and 11% virB11. C. jejuni showed higher prevalence of all genes evaluated than C. coli, except iam and virB11 wich were higher for C. coli. The same gene pattern was presented in different sources of isolates. The high prevalence of flaA and flhA, involved in CT mobility, cadF related to Campylobacter gut colonization of broiler and cdtABC genes involved for the expression of cytotoxin, indicates the importance of these factors in CT virulence. Differences in the prevalence of genes according to the species of CT could demonstrate different mechanisms of pathogenicity, and this is not related to the source of isolates. All the results showed the ability of CT to colonize cells but is not evidence of pathogenesis.","PeriodicalId":30802,"journal":{"name":"Fave Seccion Ciencias Agrarias","volume":"72 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-12-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"84509600","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

An alternative for whey utilization is the production of fermented alcoholic beverages by means of the yeast Kluyveromyces marxianus, able to use lactose as a carbon source. Four different liquid growth media were prepared: whey powder (SP) and demineralized whey powder (SPD) (65 g/L) dissolved in sterilized distilled water; SPCal, similar to SP in composition, but sterilized and centrifuged to remove proteins, and milk permeate (PER). All media were fermented by 24 hours at 30°C. Samples were taken every 8 hours, for pH, biomass, ethanol and lactose determination. K. marxianus (LFIQK1 strain) growth was similar in SP, SPD and SP Cal (biomass between 2 – 3 g/L) and lower in PER. Moderate pH decline was observed, final values being between 4,7 and 5,4. Significant lactose consumption was observed in every growth media, with final values around 12 g/L and good ethanol production, especially for SP, SPD, and PER mediums (17,0±0,7; 17,6±0,5; 16,3±0,2 g/L respectively). These results are encouraging for the production of alcoholic beverages from the studied media using K. marxianus as the fermentation agent.","PeriodicalId":30802,"journal":{"name":"Fave Seccion Ciencias Agrarias","volume":"44 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-12-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"79751094","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The mice used were females of the Balb/cCmedc strain, 6 weeks old. Animals were organized into 2 groups of 3 individuals: treated (GT) and control (GC). GT was administered twice weekly by gavage with 100 µl of rifampicin resistant porcine L. plantarum LP5 at a concentration of 1010 CFU. Mice were fed water and food ad libitum throughout the experiment. Colonization in both groups was evaluated by the presence of clinical signs and by a microbiological analysis of the feces. Sampling was performed at weekly intervals to quantify the populations of the supplied L. plantarum LP5, Lactobacillus spp., Escherichia coli, total coliforms, Campylobacter and yeast. The results of the sampling in the GT in the week showed a recovery of L. plantarum LP5 above 5 logUFC/g, in the second it was 7 logUFC/g and in the third it was 5 logUFC/g. The CG, meanwhile, maintained the null count throughout the experiment. The results showed that there was no imbalance between the microbial components. Therefore, it is feasible to affirm that the inoculum did not alter the balance of the intestinal ecosystem. Particularly, it did not exert an inhibitory effect on the members of the previously established microbiota.","PeriodicalId":30802,"journal":{"name":"Fave Seccion Ciencias Agrarias","volume":"12 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-12-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"85036764","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Native (field isolation) and susceptible (reference) larvae of R. microplus were treated with increasing concentrations of IVM in order to determine its efficacy at different doses. The statistical treatment of the concentration-efficacy curves was performed by the PROBIT model, who is a standardized method proposed by FAO. The results obtained indicated that the larvae isolated were susceptible, being the values of LD50 (9.66 ppm) and LD90 (17.41 ppm), which were lower than those of the reference strain (LD50:13.58 ppm, LD90:19.31 ppm), and the RR (resistance ratio) were less than one (RR50: 0.711; RR90: 0.901). The DL99 (51.48 ppm) was only obtained in the reference strain to determine the discriminant dose (DL99x2), which is a parameter that could be used to easily discriminate susceptible and resistant larvae populations.","PeriodicalId":30802,"journal":{"name":"Fave Seccion Ciencias Agrarias","volume":"29 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-12-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"73403271","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

MT allows to show and quantify changes such as tissue repair (healing) and collagen deposition. Also, it can be used to quantify blood vessels, in epithelial dysplasia and squamous cell carcinoma. The objective of this work is to describe the MT staining technique and to exemplify some applications of this technique in routine veterinary histopathological diagnosis. Archived histologic sections were selected from the records of the histopathology laboratory. Tissues were selected in base on theirs structures and lesions that could be evaluated with MT: a rabbit lung with a chronic suppurative bronchopneumonia; a bovine liver with lesions of Echium plantagineum poisoning; and a bovine eyelid with a squamous cell carcinoma. The TM was able to show fibroplasia in the pulmonary interstitium and confirm the presence of a chronic respiratory process, and clearly revealed an abundant fibrovascular tumor stroma, with profuse connective tissue and neovascularization between the tumor cells in deep dermis. In the liver, extensive and marked fibroplasia was confirmed. MT represents a complementary coloration to routine hematoxylin and eosin stain (H&E) and provides accurate information from several pathological processes, mainly those related to fibrovascular proliferation and scarring.","PeriodicalId":30802,"journal":{"name":"Fave Seccion Ciencias Agrarias","volume":"52 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-12-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"75961647","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The assay was performed using a strain of S. aureus and four honeys that have been shown antibacterial activity against this strain. The antibacterial activity of honeys were checked by using an agar plate diffusion method using S. aureus (ATCC 29213) as the test organism. On the surface of each agar plate six stainless steel cylinders with a diameter of 8,14 mm were radially disposed. Onto each cylinder 0,1 mL of sample honey at 10% v/v was placed and all Petri dishes were incubated at 35°C during 24 h. Each sample were analyzed by triplicate. The surface of the cylinder diameter was set as reference antibacterial activity equivalent to minimal inhibitory concentration (MIC). The antibacterial activity of each honey was quantitated by the relationship between the surface of the inhibitory zone and the surface of the reference activity expressed as multiples of MIC (x MIC). The method allowed establishing differences between the bacterial activities of the different honeys tested and could be used for identifying honeys that could be employed with medicinal purpose for the treatments of wounds.","PeriodicalId":30802,"journal":{"name":"Fave Seccion Ciencias Agrarias","volume":"9 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-12-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"79324401","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This article reviews the benefits of the laparoscopic abomasopexy used for correction and fixation of the left abomasal displacement in dairy cows. The first steps are similar to the conventional technique, with sedation, analgesia and antisepsis. Two small flank incisions were made, the first one is about 10 centimeters ventral to the lumbar transverse processes in the cranial aspect of the left paralumbar fossa, and the second one, more cranial than the other and is located 7 cm ventral to the transverse processes of the lumbar vertebrae in the left 11th intercostal space, these two are the entry points of instruments and optics. This technique allows us to shorten the surgical time, reducing the tissue exposure time, the possibility of intra and post-surgical infections and iatrogenic injuries. Therefore, we saw that the recovery time was shorter; and a quick return to production is guaranteed due to the low use of antibiotics.","PeriodicalId":30802,"journal":{"name":"Fave Seccion Ciencias Agrarias","volume":"32 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-12-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"76568285","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
