The synthesis of secondary metabolites of Actinomycetes is influenced by the growth conditions of each isolate, including the fermentation period. Klebsiella pneumoniae is an opportunistic bacterial pathogen causing lower respiratory tract infection. Objectives: To determined the inhibition activity of Actinomycetes with different fermentation periods against the growth of  K.pneumoniae. Methods: Actinomycetes were isolated from soil in Kebun Raya Bogor and grown on Starch Casein Agar (SCA) medium before being fermented in liquid media consisting of 2% of mannitol, 2% of peptone, and 1% of glucose with an incubation time of 6,7, and 8 days. An antibacterial activity test was conducted on Mueller Hinton Agar (MHA) medium using the well diffusion method. Results: The activity of Actinomycetes isolates with fermentation duration of 6,7 and 8 were able to inhibit the growth of K. pneumoniae with an average inhibition zone of 4,46 mm; 4,94 mm; and 5,04 mm, respectively. Actinomycetes' inhibitory mechanism ranges from inhibition of cell wall synthesis to nucleic acid and protein synthesis. One Way ANOVA test showed significant differences between the inhibition zone produced by each fermentation group. Conclusion: Actinomycetes isolates have antibacterial activity against the growth of K. pneumoniae with the highest activity achieved by Actinomycetes with a fermentation time of 8 days.Keywords:  Actinomycetes, antibacterial, fermentation, Klebsiella pneumoniae","PeriodicalId":30736,"journal":{"name":"Jurnal Kesehatan Andalas","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-12-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"48980501","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

NLR values and PCT levels are positively correlated with the severity of COVID-19, but the relationship between the two biomarkers is unclear. Objectives: To analyzed the correlation between NLR values and PCT levels in COVID-19 patients in Jember Regency. Methods: This cross-sectional analytic observational study, conducted from March to April 2022, took data from 444 confirmed COVID-19 patients at the Jember Clinic Plantation Hospital. Secondary data were obtained from medical records of inpatients for the period January–December 2021. Results: The average NLR value was 8.58, while the average PCT level was 0.43 ng/mL. The results of the Spearman Correlation Analysis showed a positive correlation between NLR values and PCT levels in COVID-19 patients in the Jember Regency with a p-value = 0.00 and a moderate degree of correlation with an r count of 0.41. Conclusion: There is a positive correlation between NLR values and PCT levels for COVID-19 patients in Jember Regency. This tumor appears on eyelids and orbit. Around 75% of hemangioma resolves spontaneously in the first 4-5 years of life. Intervention is needed in hemangioma that obstructs the visual axis. It has been reported that a two-year-old girl came to Polyclinic with a mass on the left superior eyelid 1,5 years ago. At first, the left superior eyelid looked puffy, then developed slowly until it covered the left eye. On the examination of the left eye, visual acuity assessment was hard to perform. Mass in superior palpebral was 8mm x 8mm x 8mm, reddish colored (different with adjacent skin), consistency supple, mobile, painful (-), edema (+), horizontal palpebral fissure (FPH) 30 mm, vertical palpebral fissure (FPV) 0 mm. CT scan showed suspected hemangioma. The patient was diagnosed with capillary hemangioma and given an injection of triamcinolone acetate intralesional and oral propranolol under the supervision of a pediatrician. Significant clinical improvement was observed after 40 days of injection, where the mass was resolved completely. The FPV and FPH of the left eye had improved to 9 mm and 30 mm, respectively, with the patient finally able to follow the object. The combination of intralesional triamcinolone acetate and oral propranolol in this case is quite effective in providing complete resolution of capillary hemangioma.Keywords:  capillary hemangioma, triamcinolone acetate injection, propanolol","PeriodicalId":30736,"journal":{"name":"Jurnal Kesehatan Andalas","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-12-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"69196873","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Serbat drinks are widely circulated among the public because, empirically, they are useful for health problems, one of which is to treat diarrhea. Objectives: To analyzed the content of secondary metabolites, antioxidant activity, and antibacterial activity of serbat drink on the growth of Escherichia coli bacteria which were known from the presence or absence and measurement of the length of the inhibition zone (the clear area around the disc) with the positive control, namely ciprofloxacin, and negative control, namely distilled water. Methods: The plant spices used in this research include cardamom, cloves, star anise, cinnamon, pandan leaves, sappan wood, anise, and ginger. Serbat drink was made in 3 variations, namely composition A, composition B, and composition C. The three composition variations were carried out for two soaking times, namely 15 minutes and 540 minutes. This study used the thin-layer chromatography (TLC) method for phytochemical screening, the DPPH (2,2-diphenyl-1-pikrilhidrazil) method for examination of antioxidant activity, and Escherichia coli bacteria cultured in 3 agar and tested using the disc diffusion method (Kirby-Bauer) to determine its antibacterial activity.  Results: The secondary metabolites contained in each serbat water sample, antioxidant activity from strongest to weakest among the serbat samples, and the absence of visible inhibition zones. Thrombocytopenia in COVID-19 patients occurs through a variety of mechanisms, such as uncontrolled production of cytokines destroying bone marrow progenitor cells, direct inhibition of hematopoiesis viral infection of the bone marrow, increase in autoantibodies and immune complexes that cause platelet destruction, and lung injury that causes platelet aggregation and consumption of platelets so that platelets in the circulation are reduced.
