A receiver is designed in 80 nm CMOS with a data-rate of up to 17 Gbps, measured error-free at a bit error rate (BER) of 10-12 with -2.8 dBm input optical power. According to the IrDA standards a BER of 10-9 suffices for a wireless optical link, thus the sensitivity at 17 Gbps evaluated for BER 10-9 is then -3.9 dBm. Measured for a 6 Gbps transmission the sensitivity can go down to -10 dBm. The receiver is designed with special features optimized for a wireless optical link. It contains a transimpedance amplifier, limiting amplifier, output line driver, an offset compensation and common-mode control loop as well as a DC light-current compensation circuit. The active area of the complete receiver is only 0.0094 mm2. A very low power consumption of 18 mW is measured without the line driver. Small-signal parameters are measured and compared with simulations. The fabricated die is wire-bonded to a commercial 10 Gbps photo diode. Optical and large-signal measurements are performed. The circuit stands out first of all for the special features for wireless optical communications, the small area and low power consumption.","PeriodicalId":306918,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE International Circuits and Systems Symposium (ICSyS)","volume":"14 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121732733","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The measurement of a single bond wire welded between two pads on a copper board allows checking the consistency of our results with this method. Results are compared to those obtained thanks to probe tips. A typical RLC approach is employed to establish a model for the test structure. The good correlation between the two measurement methods in the considered frequency range proves the reliability of this new measurement method.","PeriodicalId":306918,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE International Circuits and Systems Symposium (ICSyS)","volume":"308 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116117279","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The system is designed based on the Lane Departure Warning (LDW) system. This system is expected to reduce or minimize the road accident happened due to risky and careless driving. In the system, several sensors are embedded such as sonar wave sensors and camera. The system is designed using FPGA DE1 board as the design currently is in prototype stage. Several interface such as LCD, LED, and seven segment display are used. The maximum response time is about 3ms, and for longer range detection of sonar wave sensor, the longer the time required. Thus, the blind spot detection module and the camera module are independent, to improve the response time of the system, even though the warning alarm gives are dependent on each other.","PeriodicalId":306918,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE International Circuits and Systems Symposium (ICSyS)","volume":"31 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131797631","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The proposed micro fluidic-based wire-wounded inductor was fabricated and measured to prove the concept. The simulation results in HFSS and measurement results showed a successful inductance variation of the proposed inductor while its quality factor maintains sufficiently high for radio frequency applications. This novel technique allows any desired inductance variations to tune the radio-frequency circuits depending on the magnetic permeability of the applied ferrofluids. In addition to the magnetic permeability of the injected liquid which determines the inductance value and tuning range, its magnetic saturation value is a significant parameter for determining the corresponding quality factor and resonating frequency. The tuning range is measured for this work is 65% and 8.5 % respectively for EMG 901 and EMG 911.","PeriodicalId":306918,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE International Circuits and Systems Symposium (ICSyS)","volume":"8 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132509686","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The presence of these artifacts obscure the desired information in the EEG signal. In this paper, we proposed an efficient subspace based technique named singular spectrum analysis (SSA), to remove the EMG artifacts from the single channel EEG signals. For this we proposed a new grouping technique to extract efficiently the desired component from the contaminated EEG signal by setting a threshold. Firstly, single channel signal is mapped into multichannel signal or data, called embedding. Next, the orthogonal eigenvectors are estimated from the covariance matrix of the multichannel data by singular value decomposition (SVD). Since the local variations of eigenvectors corresponding to the EEG signals are low compare with the EMG signals, we set an arbitrary threshold (0.275) to find these eigenvectors, which are used to create the subspace corresponding to the EEG signals. After identifying the subspace, the EEG signals are extracted by simply projecting the multichannel data onto this subspace followed by reverse process of embedding step. Finally, the proposed method is applied on synthetic noisy sinusoidal signals and EEG signals contaminated by the EMG artifacts. The results shows that the proposed method can efficiently removes the EMG artifacts without altering the desired components.","PeriodicalId":306918,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE International Circuits and Systems Symposium (ICSyS)","volume":"105 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123772353","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Liquid insulators not only insulate the live parts of the transformer, but also act as cooling agent for better heat agglomeration when the transformer being energized. Petroleum-based mineral oil has become dominant transformer oil for more than a century for its excellent dielectric properties. Considering the source is derived from nonrenewable energy, researchers have been putting up efforts to develop a comparable or better substitutions for conventional transformer oil. Palm oil and coconut oil are the examples of potential alternative transformer oil for its advantage whereas it is derived from environmentally friendly sources and also renewable. However, before these type of oil can be implemented in service transformer, it is crucial to examine the behavior of the electrical properties which is the most important parameter; the AC breakdown voltage. Thus in this study, the breakdown voltage of palm oil and coconut oil are investigated. Result indicates that palm oil and coconut oil have fairly similar AC breakdown strength and withstand voltages. However, palm oil possess higher deviations in data compared to coconut oil that will make it less reliable in withstand voltage prediction.","PeriodicalId":306918,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE International Circuits and Systems Symposium (ICSyS)","volume":"16 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124837635","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper presents the design of multiband low noise amplifier (LNA) in the 130nm Silterra CMOS technology. The proposed LNA operates in five major LTE bands (band 1, 2, 3, 4 and 8) used in the smartphone transceiver. The proposed design uses a transistor based shunt feedback to lower the noise figure of the LNA. It uses switched capacitors and MOS varactors that are controlled externally to achieve multiband operation. The gain, noise figure, IIP3 achieved are 20dB, 2.9-4.35dB and -15dBm respectively. The proposed circuit consumes 20.7mW power at 1.2V operation. Notably, the proposed LNA operates at both low-band and high-band making it more suitable for the multiband requirement of modern wireless transceiver frontends.","PeriodicalId":306918,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE International Circuits and Systems Symposium (ICSyS)","volume":"18 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116258476","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
