Although there are many potential threats of NFC such as eavesdropping, data modification, and relay attacks, NFC based AFC systems are considered secure, due to the limited 10cm communication distance. Nevertheless, the proliferation of NFC-equipped mobile phones make such system venerable. We introduce and implement an attack on AFC cards that permits an attacker to top up his smart card and get a refund. We also propose possible countermeasures to defend against these attacks.","PeriodicalId":306731,"journal":{"name":"2017 IEEE Conference on Computer Communications Workshops (INFOCOM WKSHPS)","volume":"177 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-05-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131646571","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

By exchanging information vehicles can become aware of each other and prevent dangerous situations that can lead to crashes either by early warning drivers or by automatic vehicle control, a solution particularly appealing for self-driving cars. While research on vehicular safety mainly focuses on vehicle-to-vehicle safety, we can exploit communication to implement applications aimed at protecting vulnerable road users, such as pedestrians or cyclists. In this paper, we start by exploiting a probability framework for estimating the likelihood of collision between a vehicles approaching an intersection and a cyclist, in light of the feasibility of communication between the two. On top of this framework, we design a simple application that, under certain conditions, informs the car driver (assumed to have to yield precedence) of the possible collision. We model the reaction of the driver to the warning and analyze possible benefits and drawbacks of such an application. The contribution is not the application itself, which is obvious, but the insights in the results in light of communication capabilities and human reaction that provide a specific set of aspects that should be considered in the design of such a safety system.","PeriodicalId":306731,"journal":{"name":"2017 IEEE Conference on Computer Communications Workshops (INFOCOM WKSHPS)","volume":"83 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-05-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130907077","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Additionally, the most advanced Urban IoT services focus on real-time data processing, which shifts the perspective and goal of the network when transporting data. In this paper, the notion of Quality of Computing (QoC) is introduced to capture the level of support the communication infrastructure provides to this family of computation applications. In this context, we propose a dynamic network selection mechanism based on Software Defined Networks (SDN) designed to provide QoC in Urban IoT scenarios where the heterogeneous network resources are shared. The proposed mechanism dynamically assigns portions of data from IoT streams over licensed and unlicensed bands to guarantee QoC while minimizing cost of operations and licensed band occupation. Instrumental to our technique is the recently proposed edge-computing architecture, where computational resources placed at the edge of wireless access networks enable the interconnection of network management to processing. We consider a real-time monitoring scenario, where sensors transmit a video stream which is processed to identify and classify objects. The supporting wireless infrastructure consists of WiFi that operates in unlicensed frequency bands and cellular communication technology, Long Term Evolution (LTE) operating in licensed bands. We demonstrate the performance by means of real-world experiments on a testbed with WiFi and LTE networks built with hostapd and OpenAirInterface.","PeriodicalId":306731,"journal":{"name":"2017 IEEE Conference on Computer Communications Workshops (INFOCOM WKSHPS)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-05-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130966727","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A novel precoding design based on oblique projection is proposed to effectively suppress the interference caused by the cross-polarization components. Moreover, considering a 2 × 1 dual-polarized antennas based system, rate-2 accompanied with diversity order of 2 in symbol error rate (SER) performance is achieved by using the proposed precoding design, compared with its counterpart without precoding techniques. The expression of the moment generating function (MGF) of signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) for the proposed scheme is derived, and an analytical expression of SER with M-ary phase-shift keying (M-PSK) modulation is obtained. Extensive numerical results are given to unveil the effectiveness of the proposed scheme.","PeriodicalId":306731,"journal":{"name":"2017 IEEE Conference on Computer Communications Workshops (INFOCOM WKSHPS)","volume":"157 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-05-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131694901","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We perform our experiments in ORBIT grid with multiple USRPs. The proposed experiment can be easily recreated using multiple USRPs and Octoclock-G to achieve synchronization among those. One of the main issues while working with multiple transmitters and receivers is synchronization. A technique to achieve the required synchronization on the ORBIT grid is described. A framework for estimating Channel State Information (CSI) across multiple receivers is provided. The various factors affecting the data such as the proximity of the users to one another, being in the line-of-sight of the transmitter, are addressed.","PeriodicalId":306731,"journal":{"name":"2017 IEEE Conference on Computer Communications Workshops (INFOCOM WKSHPS)","volume":"7 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-05-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115546154","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In our recent papers, we presented techniques for low-overhead feedback collection and rate adaptation for WiFi multicast. In this demo, we present a platform for evaluating video delivery over multicast using these techniques. The platform does not require changes in existing 802.11 standards and we implemented it on Android devices and laptops. The platform allows evaluation of the performance of multicast feedback, rate adaptation, and video rate adaptation algorithms in various settings including mobility and external interference.","PeriodicalId":306731,"journal":{"name":"2017 IEEE Conference on Computer Communications Workshops (INFOCOM WKSHPS)","volume":"223 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-05-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124440848","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To further improve the spectral efficiency of D2D communications, we integrate full-duplex (FD) into D2D communications. Since the residual self-interference (SI) will limit the performance gain introduced by the FD mode, we cannot directly determine which duplex mode should be used. Therefore, this paper investigates the duplex mode selection problem for D2D communications underlaying the cellular uplink. Two cases are considered, i.e., the base station (BS) has perfect instantaneous channel state information (CSI) of both cellular link and D2D link and the BS only has user location information. For each case, we give the conditions to use D2D communications and investigate the existence of feasible solutions. When the feasible solutions of both FD mode and HD mode exist, we use power control to further improve system performance and give the duplex mode selection scheme. Numerical results show that the mode selection scheme is determined by the rate requirements and the residual self-interference.","PeriodicalId":306731,"journal":{"name":"2017 IEEE Conference on Computer Communications Workshops (INFOCOM WKSHPS)","volume":"81 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-05-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123631104","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In Named-Data Networking (NDN), Interest names introduce novel vulnerabilities that can be exploited. By setting up a malware, Interest names can be used to encode critical information (steganography embedded) and to leak information out of the network by generating anomalous Interest traffic. This security threat based on Interest names does not exist in IP network, and it is essential to solve this issue to secure the NDN architecture. This paper performs risk analysis of information-leakage in NDN. We first describe vulnerabilities with Interest names and, as countermeasures, we propose a name-based filter using search engine information, and another filter using one-class Support Vector Machine (SVM). We collected URLs from the data repository provided by Common Crawl and we evaluate the performances of our per-packet filters. We show that our filters can choke drastically the throughput of information-leakage, which makes it easier to detect anomalous Interest traffic. It is therefore possible to mitigate information-leakage in NDN network and it is a strong incentive for future deployment of this architecture at the Internet scale.","PeriodicalId":306731,"journal":{"name":"2017 IEEE Conference on Computer Communications Workshops (INFOCOM WKSHPS)","volume":"5 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-05-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125878796","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Also, the innetwork caching capabilities in ICN limits the massive data access to the data producers and so relaxes the need of continuous connectivity E2E connectivity between data producers and data consumers (this helps power efficiency as IoT devices can enter in sleep mode when they are not transmitting data). In this paper, we present an ICN-IoT architecture in which ICN nodes provide IoT gateways capabilities and ICN caching functions. Optimal Placement Algorithm (OPA) is proposed to choose the optimal placement location for ICN nodes. We evaluated OPA with respect to several performance metrics and the obtained results show improvement in services consumption latency and network load. Furthermore, we propose a caching strategy that shows to stabilize the network load despite any increase in the number of consumer interests.","PeriodicalId":306731,"journal":{"name":"2017 IEEE Conference on Computer Communications Workshops (INFOCOM WKSHPS)","volume":"33 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-05-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124692427","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
