A methodological approach is summarised, that integrates cultural aspects, product innovation issues and product strategic vision. The starting point for tool development is presented. Systematic integration of eco-design is proving to be feasible, but requires ad-hoc decision making and customised solutions, based on the company reality. The results of the project are showing promising opportunities for the improvement of the methods for optimised and eco-efficient design.","PeriodicalId":306645,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Sustainable Design","volume":"286 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-02-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124566246","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Given their ease of use, one might think that 'green' lightbulbs would become far more popular than reusable nappies and the associated inconvenience. However, this is not always the case. The paper takes a novel approach to understanding consumers' behaviour, using functional analysis to examine 'green' and 'normal' products and demonstrating why some refuse to use energy-efficient lightbulbs, despite using reusable nappies. It considers how consumer perceptions have developed and the implications for engineering designers.","PeriodicalId":306645,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Sustainable Design","volume":"2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-02-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128786404","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Due to site limitations, the concept of solar chimney based ventilation has been introduced through roof mounted thermo-siphon air panels of 70 m? absorber area. A wind tower provided on the suction side of fresh air has potential for cooling incoming air by 5?C by using 250 m? of stone cladding. Openings for airflow inside the buildings are designed to suit smooth natural ventilation. Evolution of the final design through various constraints is explained in this paper.","PeriodicalId":306645,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Sustainable Design","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-02-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129231881","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The purpose of this study was to conduct experiments to investigate and accurately determine the effect of sewage environment on the behaviour of sulphur and conventional concrete as the main material of sewage network structures. For evaluating the corrosion behaviour of concrete samples, porosity factor was measured. By analysing the SEM, EDX, EDS images, a non-dimensional index called Hole Index Ratio (HIR) was determined. It can be concluded that the main cause of the destruction of pipes made of cement concrete is chemical corrosion while sulphur concrete is more resistant in this case but has lower vulnerability to biological corrosion. It should be noted that under the real conditions and the presence of microbial competition between bacteria and the unfavourable conditions for the Thiobacillus thiooxidans bacteria, this malignant effect is far less and is negligible.","PeriodicalId":306645,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Sustainable Design","volume":"19 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128523259","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
