The specifics of the diatom assemblages (co-occurrence of ecologically incompatible taxa, poor species diversity, low diatom concentration and selective preservation) suggest that during the Early Weichselian time intense erosion of previously deposited marine Eemian (Mikulino) sediments prevailed, which resulted in re-deposition of marine diatoms. The sedimentation took place in high-energy environments unfavorable for diatom accumulation and preservation.","PeriodicalId":305989,"journal":{"name":"Issues of modern algology (Вопросы современной альгологии)","volume":"24 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114520540","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A batch cyanoprokaryotic culture of Arthrospira (Spirulina) platensis (Nordst.) Gomont was grown under light-limiting conditions. The choice of the light-limiting region is due to the low rates of photobiosynthesis, which, from a methodological point of view, simplifies the determination of the dynamics of biomass concentration and its main biochemical components. An express method for determining the concentration of chlorophyll a from true absorption spectra compensated for scattering is proposed. The production characteristics of culture were calculated (maximum specific growth rate – 0.02 h-1, productivity 0.17 g·l-1·d-1, percentage of Chl a – 1.5%). It is shown their relationship with the surface irradiation of the. It is revealed the dependence of the integral light absorption coefficient on the surface concentration of Chl a is described with high accuracy (R2 = 0.99) by the Bouguer-Lambert-Beer law. The specific absorption rate was 0.02 m2·mg-1, which is 2 times higher than that calculated for green algae. The efficiency of light energy utilization decreased at the exponential growth phase and stabilized at the linear one at the level of 4.9%. The obtained results can be used to predict the production of biologically valuable components in laboratory and semi-industrial conditions.","PeriodicalId":305989,"journal":{"name":"Issues of modern algology (Вопросы современной альгологии)","volume":"8 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116646487","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Significant differences in the species composition and structure of algae and cyanoprokaryotes communities comparing with references were revealed. In some lakes, an annual change in the dominant taxa was observed, which reflects a high degree of destabilization of the aquatic ecosystems. The main reason for the observed changes should be considered a sharp change in hydrochemical parameters, primarily – the concentration of nutrients dynamics, because of anthropogenic water pollution. A significant factor is also the toxic effect of a number of trace elements, including heavy metals; the concentration in the water of the studied reservoirs can be many times higher than the references. Cyanoprokaryotes are dominated in Semenovskoye Lake, and bloom-causing potentially toxic species have been revealed. A high bioindicative potential of phytoplankton communities in the urbanized territories of the Arctic zone was noted, which must be taken into account when solving the problems of assessing water quality and normalizing the anthropogenic load on water resources.","PeriodicalId":305989,"journal":{"name":"Issues of modern algology (Вопросы современной альгологии)","volume":"136 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122859009","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The algal flora contains 110 species of algae of the following divisions: Cyanophyta =Cyanobacteria=Cyanoprokaryota – 18, Cryptophyta – 1, Dinophyta – 9, Euglenophyta – 11, Chlorophyta – 57 Streptophyta - 2, Ochrophyta (classes Chrysophyceae – 2, Bacillariophyceae – 10). For the majority of the found species, the saprobity mark and saprobic index were specified. The most diverse group in the water bodies of Saint Petersburg is green algae, which includes single and coenobial algae of the coccoid and monad tallom organization, which are well adapted to vegetation in the water column. In most reservoirs at spring Monoraphidium arcuatum (Korshikov) Hindák and Monoraphidium contortum (Thuret) Komárkova-Legnerova, species of genera Scenedesmus, including species of the genera Desmodesmus and Tetradesmus actively vegetate. In the reservoirs of Saint Petersburg, the leading positions are taken by euglenic algae, especially species of genera Trachelomonas (Trachelomonas hispida (Perty) F. Stein, Trachelomonas volvocina (Ehrenberg) Ehrenberg). Summer phytoplankton differs in the more vigorous development of blue-green algae-especially such species as Dolichospermum flosaquae (Brébisson ex Bornet & Flahault) P. Wacklin, L. Hoffmann & Komárek, Dolichospermum spiroides (Klebhan) Wacklin, L. Hoffmann & Komárek. The species of β- mesosaprobic dominate. There are also α-mesosaprobes and species with a wide range of existence in reservoirs with different degrees of organic content. Biological analysis of the surveyed water bodies shows that their condition is satisfactory.","PeriodicalId":305989,"journal":{"name":"Issues of modern algology (Вопросы современной альгологии)","volume":"33 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129774801","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The authors compare the classical method of moist chambers with fouling glasses and the method of isolating diatoms from the soil using moist plates with gauze placed on the surface of the soil. The methods were used to isolate diatoms from soil samples taken in two biotopes – in a birch forest and in a river floodplain. It has been shown that the main advantage of the method of fouling glasses is the reception of additional data on the active life of algae in the soil, since many algae form clones on the surface of the glass as a result of cell division. At the same time, with the help of gauze cultures, it is possible to obtain preparations that contain more material of better quality, since the shells of diatoms can be better cleaned from organics using this method. Both methods have their advantages and disadvantages, and to obtain more complete results, the authors recommend using them together.","PeriodicalId":305989,"journal":{"name":"Issues of modern algology (Вопросы современной альгологии)","volume":"36 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121040868","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
