The relevance of the topic is explained by the growing use of natural gas both in terms of domestic consumption (due to the expansion of gas supply areas) and in terms of industrial consumption (introduction of more complex technological processes), which significantly tightens the requirements for failure-free and reliable gas supply systems. The issues of reliability and sustainability of operation of gas distribution systems directly affect the efficiency of natural gas transportation to end consumers. Key factors should also include the assurance and maintenance of operational parameters of gas distribution networks and gas-using equipment in the optimal technological condition. The purpose of the study is to assess the economic efficiency of proposed gas pressure reduction systems with account taken of the value of capital expenditures into their installation, purchase of equipment and devices, involved in the arrangement of gas pressure reduction lines. Materials and methods. The co-authors have used the system analysis and synthesis of complex structured gas pressure reduction complexes, methods of computational mathematics, synthesis of new engineering solutions. Results. Gas pressure reduction systems have advantages over standard patterns currently used by most gas distribution stations and pressure reduction units. However, systems, featuring one pressure reduction line, have a narrow range of application. Higher reliability and failure-free operation are demonstrated by the systems having a redundant pressure reduction line, consisting of the same set of equipment and designed for 100 % capacity of the principal reduction line. In addition, the installation of these reduction systems takes less time, if compared with a standard system, which is not unimportant in the context of mass production. Conclusions. The analysis of the established gas reduction systems used at gas distribution stations and pressure reduction units allows to choose the equipment operating in the range of medium and high pressure with one-step gas pressure reduction in order to develop an optimal reduction system. The article describes features of the design of external steel walls that ensure thermal insulation of buildings. Facade finishing methods are studied. Energy consumption by households, that consumes up to 40 % of all national energy resources, has triggered the development of energy-saving technologies. Their use will solve several problems at once, including conservation of natural energy resources, changing the system of housing and utility services, reducing environmental pollution, increasing the profitability of enterprises and the implementation of energy-saving programmes. Materials and methods. Not only new materials have been developed, but also the whole systems of enclosure structures, which require the study of structural and technological characteristics of facade systems. National standards have not yet been developed for numerous modern, relatively new materials designated for the insulation of external walls. There are two principal methods of wall insulation. The first one is the so-called “wet” method, that entails the use of gypsum mortar. The second one is “dry”; it entails the use of structural hinges to make an air gap between the outer screen and insulation. Results. Russian houses feature very low energy efficiency, and since the cost of electricity and gas for a Russian consumer is lowest in Europe, heat consumption (heating, hot water) is much higher than in Europe. Modern facade systems not only allow to change and beautify the appearance of the city due to a variety of styles and colours of its urban structures, they also improve thermal insulation properties and reduce construction time. Conclusions. External walls, having ventilated facades, are applied in residential and public buildings. They have a supplementary layer of thermal insulation, which is normally used in the construction of these facades. We won’t be able to solve global ecological problems without solving the energy issue. It is necessary to expand the energy sector and switch to energy saving technologies. Power generation is among sources of negative impacts on the environment and man. The emission of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere, discharge of polluted liquid waste into rivers, creation of huge water reservoirs, warming of water bodies, depletion of fuel resources, deforestation, emission of toxic substances into the atmosphere and water, burial of radioactive waste — this list of negative impacts, produced by the energy sector on the environment, is not exhaustive. At the end of the 20th century, humanity finally rea­lized how serious the problem of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere was. The consolidation of these two issues, namely, environmental protection and conservation of natural resources, tightened the requirements for the construction of buil­dings in terms of thermal insulation, reduction of energy consumption for heating, and introduction of a closed power cycle at production facilities. The article deals with construction of passive multi-storey houses in different climatic conditions of the Russian Federation. The problem of energy saving and thermal insulation of buildings in construction is addressed. The analysis of energy consumption by passive buildings in the climatic conditions of Central Russia is made. Materials and methods. Currently, heating consumption by all types of buildings during the heating season in Russia is analyzed in accordance with Annex G of SNiP 23-02-2003. In addition, a national standard of the Russian Federation was developed, approved and put into effect by Decree of the Federal Agency for Technical Regulation and Metrology No. 1211-st dated October 25, 2013. This standard is amended in relation to ISO 13790:2008. This Russian standard is a regulatory document on annual heat and electricity costs of maintaining the microclimate on heated or cooled premises. Results. The technology has advanced, and now the construction market offers houses with seamless facades and improved sound and heat insulation. These are monolithic frame houses with good thermal insulation, since monolithic concrete is poured directly into the formwork on the construction site, lined with glass wool thermal insulation and clad with facade panels, which reduces heat loss from a building. Conclusions. The analysis of the energy consumption calculation method has proven an efficient tool to determine the heat demand of heating systems. The calculation allows to determine heat losses associated with the transfer of heat through an external envelope and the need for thermal energy. The study presents an assessment of the economic feasibility of different pipe materials used to transport treated wastewater. The choice was made between pipes made of ductile iron, glass-fiber reinforced polyester (GRP), concrete, and plastic. Hydraulic calculations of operation of an irrigation water supply and distribution system were made using WaterCAD V8i software. Two options of the system operation, that entail different flow rates and diameters, are considered: if the flow rate is equal to 1.16 m3/s and pipe diameters vary from 800 mm to 1,200 mm, and if the flow rate is equal to 4.63 m3/s, and pipe diameters vary from 1,600 to 2,000 mm. Materials and methods. The article analyzes the legal and regulatory documentation on design and construction, urban planning solutions for residential areas, architectural and structural solutions for apartment buildings, statistical and analytical reports on housing construction in Russia, presented on the Internet. Results. Irrigation water represents treated wastewater fed by the wastewater treatment facilities in the city of Karbala, Iraq. Two hydraulic models were designed with account for the above-mentioned costs. Head losses were estimated for each model with regard for all studied materials and pipe diameters using the WaterCAD V8i software and a mathematical model for the purpose of selecting the optimal pipe diameter. Conclusions. A mathematical model was developed to calculate the cost of transporting wastewater in pipes having different diameters and made of four different materials. The ratio of costs to the diameter of pipes, made of four different materials, was identified by developing an empirical equation. The co-authors used the Darcy – Weisbach technique and the Hazen – Williams method to calculate the operating costs with regard for variable diameters, flow rates for the two models, head losses due to friction, annual operation time, annual cost of electric energy, and the energy efficiency of the unit. Besides, the co-authors address factors influencing the complexity of engineering surveys in the Far North. Materials and methods. The co-authors used the following research methods: the study of relevant regulatory documents related to the field of research, analysis and theoretical generalization of the obtained data, systematization, the analysis of existing Russian and English-language sources. Results. The design of a mobile soil laboratory in a 1SS container was studied. The use of mobile soil testing laboratories, organized in 1SS containers, contributes to the reduction of deadlines for the implementation of the required tests and production control. A mobile modular laboratory in 1SS type containers can be installed anywhere, including remote destinations, while the cost of financial and labour resources, needed to install the laboratory, is low, which positively affects the construction process organization. Conclusions. The article summarizes the efficiency and profitability of a mobile soil laboratory in the Far North in terms of construction process organization. The co-authors address current trends in the architectural design of inclusive schools. Their mission is to maximize the social involvement and integration of disabled children into groups of kids. The purpose of this research is to identify guidelines for designing inclusive schools and to make recommendations for the design of inclusive schools that conduct adaptation events. Materials and methods. The co-authors have used methods of comparative analysis and synthesis of foreign and Russian research, literary and design materials; findings of sociological surveys; a multidisciplinary approach that encompasses medicine, social science, and legal norms, that influence the guidelines for designing inclusive schools. Results. The research is focused on developing guidelines for designing inclusive schools and recommendations on the design of inclusive schools whose administration conducts adaptation events for children with minor disabilities and a normal level of intelligence, the vision acuity of, at least, 0.4 diopters, the hearing impairment of 26 to 40 dB, minor muscle-skeleton disorders, including wheelchair users, capable of getting around on their own. These results may be taken advantage of by architects, designing inclusive schools; they can also be taught at universities of architecture. Conclusions. The co-authors make recommendations for the design of inclusive schools designated for particular categories of disabled persons. The analysis of problems in the context of architectural and space-planning design of inclusive school buildings will allow to improve their structure and study their typology with a view to further development. Reconstruction measures can restore production assets of an enterprise, ensure its economic efficiency, solve transportation and environmental problems. A relevant objective is to identify a set of the most important tasks of reconstruction of an industrial facility. Development of draft design proposals for the reconstruction of industrial buildings is complicated by the fact that a designer has to make a compositional link between “old” and “new” architecture, different in style and functionality, while focusing on the use of the most advanced effective materials and modern industrial structures. The article describes features of technical solutions for facades in the course of the reconstruction of industrial buildings aimed at the improvement of their energy efficiency and safety. Materials and methods. Reconstruction of industrial enterprises performs the function of transformation of industrial areas. Modern industrial architecture is focused on industrial tasks, such as the workplace protection from negative environmental effects (wind, rain, cold); arrangement of effective lighting in the workplaces; rational arrangement of workplaces, office equipment and production lines, auxiliary and service facilities, etc. Results. If there are social, historical, and architectural reasons to preserve a building, it is necessary to reconstruct and improve old industrial buildings and change their technical and economic characteristics. The reconstruction of a building means its modification aimed at changing its functionality in part or in full, taking into account the future prospects of the building. Conclusions. When restoring wornout elements of buildings that have historical significance, new elements are made in such a way that the appearance of a building remains unchanged or looks identical to its original historical appearance. The purpose of this study is to identify principles and trends in the construction and architecture of cruise ports. Presently, Soviet-era seaport buildings fail to meet cruise tourism development requirements and current norms and standards applicable to this type of structures. Today Russian seaports are limited to solely one function, that is, transportation of passengers, whereas abroad such structures have been transformed into multifunctional complexes. Materials and methods. Theoretical analysis of scientific literature, graphic materials, and written sources were used. The research methods include systematic, spatial, and socio-functional approaches. Results. The article presents the history of formation of the architectural appearance and the functional purpose of cruise ports. It specifies principal requirements and design standards for similar structures, as well as their integration into the mo­dern urban environment. The co-authors offer solutions to relevant problems, related to the architecture of seaport buildings in Russia, using a number of selected international design cases of multifunctional marine complexes. Conclusions. By transforming obsolete buildings of seaports multifunctional complexes, we end up with a new level of structures. The competent architectural planning structure will allow urban authorities to create interesting facilities that bring not only transport, but also commercial, recreational and social benefits to the city. The problem of antagonistic contradiction between human life and the environment has been turning global along with the development of urbanization, breakthrough growth of the energy and technological potency of cities, leading to an increase in the consumption of natural resources and an impact on the biosphere. All over the world and in Russia, scientists are searching for environmentally friendly technologies for urban planning, housing and utilities sectors. However, the problem of analyzing and forecasting the state of ecosystems in residential areas and their influence on man and the environment remains unresolved and needs to be solved in many settlements. Materials and methods. The article analyzes the legal and regulatory documentation on design and construction, urban planning solutions for residential areas, architectural and structural solutions for apartment buildings, statistical and analytical reports on housing construction in Russia, presented on the Internet. Results. The proposed subjects for discussion include two concepts of the term “ecosystem”, results of the analysis of indicators of housing construction in Russia, indices of the quality of the urban environment in settlements, and a factor model used to assess the ecosystem of a residential area. A lifecycle model of a residential area, that represents a complex system, composed of capital construction facilities, linear facilities, landscaping and gardening, and waste management, is used as the basis for the generalization of well-known approaches, developed from the standpoint of the system analysis. Properties of interaction between facilities, on the one hand, facilities and the environment, on the other hand, are taken into account. Conclusions. Now residential housing is constructed faster, and urban areas, occupied by residential buildings, grow accordingly in the settlements of the Russian Federation willing to provide their population with high-quality housing. Mass construction of apartment buildings continues to be the main focus of the country’s urban development. Urban planning activities, aimed at the development and maintenance of residential areas, need all the more attention. The air conditioning system is the main consumer of electricity inside office and shopping buildings. The coo­ling needs arise inside such buildings all over the year due to high amounts of heat emitted by people and equipment (computers, office equipment, cash registers), solar radiation (the envelopes of the majority of these buildings have continuous glazed facades) and sources of artificial lighting. A conventional cooling system has a compressor and condensers. The most important step towards an optimized and low-energy cooling system is the abandonment of compressor and condensers; in addition, the cold extracted from the outdoor air, is used in the system. This cooling technique is called an atmospheric co­oling system. The climatic features of Russia allow for a large-scale application of the cooling technology that uses natural cold. However, for a start, a decision was made to focus on a central region of the Russian Federation, namely, Moscow, rather than any northern areas of the country. Materials and methods. The problem is solved by the calculation method applied to the case of a 35-storey office building in Moscow. Various outdoor temperature options were considered as the bases for a transition to an atmospheric cooling system. The co-authors also compare different installation options for dry coolers, which in turn affect the routing length of refrigeration circuits. The annual demand for cold is calculated for all analyzed options. Results. Some results are presented in the form of tables of annual energy consumption by different types of air cooling systems. Conclusions. The co-authors have found that the location of dry coolers strongly affects the power consumption by a co­oling system.
