Then, a dynamic refund fee model based on refund time and real-time sales revenue is proposed according to the actual operating conditions of the flight.Findings:The results show that refund fee is negatively related to three variables, the ticket price, the probability of ticket sales and the probability of refund. Besides, The maximum payment limit is the airline single seat cost or the actual fare paid below it, and the lowest can be exempt.Originality/value: A better standard of the rufund is proposed. The refund mode breaks the traditional static charging mode, and charges different refund fees to passengers for different refund time and the real time income of flights. Comparing with the current refund policy, the new charge of refund fee could best meets the interests of both parties.a refund fee standard.","PeriodicalId":30504,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Airline and Airport Management","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-10-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.3926/jairm.129","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"48819167","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Airlines pursuing cost leadership should seek to increase productivity especially in MRO, human resources and physical resources; whereas airlines pursuing service differentiation may choose to provide quality service at lower efficiencies or pursue an approach to improve quality and efficiencies simultaneously.Originality/value: Identifying operations practices that are consistent with a firm’s competitive priorities is important in the multifaceted service environment today. An integrated SBM-ACE regression model, which permits different input-output mix, variable return to scale and non-linear relationship, is proposed and applied to analyze the profit impact of service efficiencies in the five key operations areas.","PeriodicalId":30504,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Airline and Airport Management","volume":"203 ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-10-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.3926/jairm.126","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"41275021","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It then proceeded to gather the empirical evidences using questionnaires from 135 active air passengers who have online purchasing experience. The composite findings from literature review and surveys were then used to design and apply for the final phase which is a series of in-depth interviews of air passengers on their usability test sessions and experts from the related industries. Coding and clustering was utilised to analyse the qualitative data obtained. Findings: The study examines the differences in online ticket purchasing platforms including airline's website, mobile-site and mobile application. The results identified five areas of factors: physical, trust, willingness to learn, context of use and adjustment. With regard to these factors, there are no single platform that outperform others. Airlines need to ensure that UX/UI of all platforms meet the users’ requirements in all circumstances.  Originality/value: The study reveals the customer thinking processes on online purchasing behaviour. It focuses on web-usability and user experience of different booking platforms. The findings allow the subjected LCC to improve customer experience and optimise its platforms. The paper could also benefit other entrepreneurs who are in the related industry or similar contexts. In addition, the study of user-experience in the context of airline industry, particularly in the emerging countries like Thailand is limited.","PeriodicalId":30504,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Airline and Airport Management","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-10-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.3926/jairm.124","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"70339794","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This phaenomenon has then been analysed quantitatively using descriptive statistics techniques and qualitatively by analysing in-depth some representative incidents. A risk analysis has then been performed based on the FAA Safety Risk Management 5-steps process to identify the hazards i.e. the root causes of those UAV incidents, determine their outcome i.e. negative consequences that jeopardize airports objectives and assign them a severity level and likelihood i.e. frequency level. Analysed risks have then been assessed based on FAA ARP Risk Matrix. Mitigation measures (prevention, deterrence, denial, detection, neutralisation) have been identified following a ‘Defence-in-Depth’ approach.Findings: The findings of the study are that those UAV incidents are more numerous than anticipated and happen higher and further from the airports than expected: they happen not only in CTRs but also in TMAs. This has an impact on the mitigation measures that shall not only be deployed at airports side but also be on-boarded in manned aircrafts.Originality: To our knowledge, no study has combined different sources to constitute such a population focused on ‘serious’ UAVs incidents around airports worldwide, has applied the official FAA Safety Risk Management process to assess this risk and followed a structured ‘Defence-in-Depth’ approach typically used in Cybersecurity to mitigate this risk.Keywords: Airport security and safety, Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) threat, Risk analysis and mitigation, Counter-UAVs technologies.","PeriodicalId":30504,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Airline and Airport Management","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-10-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.3926/jairm.127","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"45441120","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Airline industry as one of the most extensive modes of transportation should be strictly accurate in providing services to their customers. This article attempts to investigate important dimensions from passengers' point of view and present a model which would evaluate the flight attendant's performance.Design/methodology: In order to achieve this purpose, on the basis of the literature and experts' and passengers' point of view, the SERVQUAL model has been modified with 26 factors in 6 dimensions. Then 300 data have been gathered for the Factor Analysis Model.Findings: As a result, a model with high goodness of fit has been developed which could be used as a tool of measuring quality of service with a high degree of certainty. In the end, running the model in Iran air, most differences were as below: 1-Improvement 2-Responsiveness 3-Empathy 4-Assurance 5-Tangibles 6-Reliability.Originality/value: In general, in this model, all services with which employees are involved are observed. However, the main issue in this research is related to attendant team. Consequently, considering that many of these indicators have different meanings in assessing customer satisfaction in relation to the performance of flight attendant; modifications should be made to the dimensions of the SERVQUAL model.","PeriodicalId":30504,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Airline and Airport Management","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-07-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.3926/JAIRM.130","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"43663958","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The passengers are from three types of airlines: an international airline with a global network, a regional airline, and a low-cost carrier. The analysis of variance (ANOVA) was conducted to investigate the differences in the perceptions of brand personalities of airlines and several models were developed to determine the antecedent and the consequent factors of airline brand personality.Findings: The air passengers’ perceptions regarding the brand personalities of different types of airlines were significantly different. The country-of-origin of airlines was proved as a significant factor for the brand personality. The brand personality also significantly influenced passengers’ loyalty to the corresponding airlines. Moreover, some demographic and trip characteristics such as personal monthly income, memberships in the airline’s frequent flyer program, and experiences with the airlines were also determined as the significant variables to impact passengers’ loyalties.Originality/value: The concept of brand personality has been explored by various researches but few related to airline management and identified as a key element to brand marketing. Particularly, low-cost carriers always implement different marketing strategies to create a distinctive position in their target customers’ mind and legacy airlines are also doing different things to retain their customers. Therefore, investigating passengers’ perceptions of airlines from the perspective of brand personality is also an important issue for airline management. Not only does this study prove the differences in passengers’ cognitions of brand personalities of a global network airline, a regional network airline, and a low-cost airline but conclude the determinants and influences of the brand personality.","PeriodicalId":30504,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Airline and Airport Management","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-02-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.3926/JAIRM.121","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"47045111","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A structural equation model depicting the re-purchase behavior of frequent flyers were developed and tested. Findings:  There exists an overall statistical validity of the model build-up by using structural equation modeling.  Significant differences are observed in brand and trust variables in influencing re-purchase intention behavior of frequent passengers. This finding was further verified in correspondence to the variations in loyalty programme status and possession levels of loyalty programme memberships.Practical implications: Re-purchase behavior of passengers holding single and multiple loyalty programme memberships were compared and drawn implications for the airlines to guesstimate re-purchase intentions of regular passengers. Originality/value: The empirical findings of this study proves that there is a tendency to shift from single to multiple possessions of airline loyalty memberships while the frequent passengers progress on their travel needs.  This study proclaimed that passengers possessing single loyalty programme are more influenced by brand image of the airline where as passengers using multiple loyalty programmes are by and large accustomed by means of the trust in the airline services than its brand image.","PeriodicalId":30504,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Airline and Airport Management","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-10-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.3926/JAIRM.116","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"45094822","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The method estimates the average flight time spent by the national carriers to accomplish the average stage lengths in each year of the period 2000-2015 and compare these results with the flight time baseline included in the flight planning data of the aircrafts composing the Brazilian commercial aircraft fleet.Findings: This approach leads to huge differences between the referred results and the fuel consumption shown by flight operations manuals and were attributed to the inefficiencies existing in the acknowledged overloaded aeronautical infrastructure (either in the air or on ground) in Brazil. With that it is concluded that there is a potential reduction opportunity of almost 30% in aircraft fuel consumption in domestic flights in Brazil, which has been until the moment almost unconsidered. Thus, government policy-makers and all stakeholders will be able to quantify the impacts and recommend investments in infrastructure in a well-founded way. Furthermore, the return on investments of public funds, which are especially scarce in the developing countries, will be assessed in a simple manner. Under this scope investments and research on Air Traffic Management (ATM) new technologies and flow management techniques are strongly suggested in order to improve airspace operational efficiency.Originality/value: A new and innovative method for high level assessment of the aeronautical infrastructure efficiency.","PeriodicalId":30504,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Airline and Airport Management","volume":"134 6","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-09-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.3926/JAIRM.117","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"41284457","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
