CO2 injection candidates may be new wells, or old wells that are active, closed or abandoned. In all cases, it is critical to ensure that the long-term integrity of the storage wells is kept ; in others words wellbore integrity is one of the key performance criteria in the geological storage of CO2. Underground gas storage operations and CO2 sequestration in aquifers relay on both proper wellbore construction and sealing function of the cap rock. The potential leakage paths are the migration CO2 along the wellbore due to poor cementation and flow through the cap rock. The permeability and integrity of the cement will determine how effective it is in preventing leakage. The integrity of the cap rock is assured by an adequate fracture gradient and by sufficient cement around the casing across the cap rock and without a micro-annulus. The paper describes geochemical alteration of hydrated Portland cement due to supercritical CO2 injection and new cement with better CO2 resistance.","PeriodicalId":30425,"journal":{"name":"Transport Logistics","volume":"22 1","pages":"322-357"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-10-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"78707597","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The model consists of a traffic conversion method which translates freight flows from tonnes to numbers of load-units as well as a freight flow consolidation method using existing assignment techniques. The TERMINET model examines the possible binding effect of terminal infrastructure and investigates the influence of the cost structure of intermodal transport which strongly determines the possible modal-shift from road to intermodal transport. The TERMINET model makes it possible to determine interactively or automatically inland terminal locations for transshipment of load-units between road vehicles trains. The influence of train length on terminal locations, terminal capacities and network load may be calculated. Besides these capabilities it is also possible to determine the overall system performance in tonnes, tonne-kilometres, TEUs and numbers of trains. The TERMINET model has been applied to the design of an inland road and rail terminal network in the Netherlands to be used in an intermodal road and rail freight transport system for international and Dutch domestic freight flows for the year 2015. The cost structure of intermodal transport has been examined. Cost calculations have been made to examine the effect of zero or complete passing on of external and infrastructure costs to both the road and rail mode. Furthermore, the effect of the maximum use of intermodal transport on the reduction of the growth of road transport has been examined.","PeriodicalId":30425,"journal":{"name":"Transport Logistics","volume":"55 1","pages":"279-298"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1998-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"88899440","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is based on an analysis of data from the 1991/92 Commercial Vehicle Survey (CVS) undertaken by the Transport Data Centre at the Department of Transport in New South Wales, Australia. This survey provides prima facie evidence that vehicle productivity could be improved. Data is presented on the proportion of the vehicles working on an average week day, the average number of trips made on any one day and the average time spent travelling each day. Notwithstanding the fact that the results could be biased due to survey response factors and the knowledge that there was a recession in 1991/92, the values for these indices are relatively low. The paper considers possible reasons for the low level of vehicle utilization and the implications for road network planning and logistics management.","PeriodicalId":30425,"journal":{"name":"Transport Logistics","volume":"3 1","pages":"265-277"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1998-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"82410702","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Through the development of suitable logit models for the corridor Greece- Italy-Northern Europe, the modal choice decisions are put in a wider framework where cost and time parameters are examined together with parameters concerning transport facilities availability, government subsidies and company structure, leading thus to a more complete insight of how modal choice decisions are taken. Forwarders and carriers were treated separately as the former were found to have a significantly more positive approach towards combined transport than the latter. The analysis showed clearly that due to the limited development of the required infrastructure, the most important parameter affecting the future combined transport market share is the level of financial aid to the transport operators for the purchase of the required combined transport equipment. Furthermore, changes in trip cost, trip time and company annual profit due to combined transport are, as expected, parameters affecting the combined transport market share.","PeriodicalId":30425,"journal":{"name":"Transport Logistics","volume":"10 1","pages":"251-264"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1998-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"79088069","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Their responses provide insights into the depth and scope of logistics outsourcing in Europe. Areas specifically addressed in the European survey include; services being used, related implementation problems, the benefits that have emerged and the impact of third-party services on costs, customer satisfaction and employees. The results indicate that logistics outsourcing, at least for basic services, has become well established in Europe. Emphasis on logistics cost reduction, service improvement and flexibility of response are at the centre of most logistics outsourcing decisions. On the downside there is a mixed response on employee morale associated with outsourcing.","PeriodicalId":30425,"journal":{"name":"Transport Logistics","volume":"44 1","pages":"167-179"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1998-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"74991616","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper assesses the effects of this removal of quantitative controls and examines the justification for the remaining constraints on own-account operations and for the 'financial standing' requirement that new operators must meet. Similarly logistics has changed its focus from the single shipment to material flows and finally to complete supply chains. An approach is presented which joins the four concepts of land use, accessibility, transport and traffic into a single systems model, which should be equally applicable to passengers and freight and serve as a tool of improving the understanding among individuals dealing with transportation and logistics problems, respectively. The model is applied to a case involving transportation of jet kerosene from the West and East coast of Sweden to the Stockholm Arlanda international airport. The existing transportation system is heavily criticised, since it involves frequent lorry trips through central Stockholm and the use of an oil harbour that has no permanent concession. As an alternative a railway based solution is discussed. Calculations show that even without consideration of external costs, this would offer lower transport costs.","PeriodicalId":30425,"journal":{"name":"Transport Logistics","volume":"75 1","pages":"225-235"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1998-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"86320271","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper discusses differing perspectives on the supply chain and proposes a three-part framework: structure, process and inter-organizational relationships. This framework presents opportunity to consider specific strategic initiatives in each area. Strategy, however, is a search for differential advantage which appears to be strongest in the potential adaptation to inter-organizational issues.","PeriodicalId":30425,"journal":{"name":"Transport Logistics","volume":"10 1","pages":"155-166"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1998-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"80028175","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To be able to support the increasing demands of shippers, a third-party logistics provider must have a portfolio with many different services, either in-house or available from a supplier network. As a consequence, third-party logistics cannot be reduced to an alliance between a single shipper and a single provider. Both the shipper and the provider are also involved in other alliances and these often strongly interact with the shipper-provider relationship. Furthermore, this relationship varies across the different phases of third-party logistics projects: design, development, implementation, and operation. Therefore, in order to broaden the picture and to extend the modelling of Cooper and others, we suggest a five-layer model with users and four tiers of logistic service providers for the description and analysis of logistics and transport industry issues in general and third-party logistics in particular. This conceptual model is then illustrated and validated by a case study describing the implementation of an alliance which involved the redesign of a European distribution operation for service parts.","PeriodicalId":30425,"journal":{"name":"Transport Logistics","volume":"12 1","pages":"181-194"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1998-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"75008968","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
