This paper is an attempt to understand whether the cultural theory and its associated parameters are equally applicable to different sizes of cities (differentiated by their population sizes). The socio-cultural factors chosen for the study are fourfold: social factors (gender, religion, dependents, choice of occupation and choice of migration), economic factors (occupation before migration), cyclical factors (willingness to stay in the same occupation) and geographical factors (distance of vendors’ native place to Chennai/ Vijayawada). Impact of these factors has been tested on income in the two cities (Tier X {larger}-Chennai and Tier Y {smaller}-Vijayawada) through a Structural Equation Model (SEM). The results reveal that in both the smaller size city (Vijayawada) as well as the larger size city (Chennai) cyclical and economic factors have a major impact on the earnings of vendors. Geographical factors have the least bearing on the income in both the cities. Although social factors are not important in case of Vijayawada, few social factors such as gender, choice of occupation and choice of migration do impact earnings of vendors in Chennai.","PeriodicalId":302903,"journal":{"name":"IRA-International Journal of Management & Social Sciences (ISSN 2455-2267)","volume":"94 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-11-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123434729","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Most of the people in Kerala start their daily routine by reading a newspaper with a cup of tea. Newspaper agent’s service quality must be evaluated by newspaper publishers from the opinion of newspaper subscribers. If subscribers are not happy with the service of newspaper agent and delivery boys it may affect the overall prosperity of the newspaper industry itself. Therefore it is relevant to measure the service quality of newspaper agents. Nowadays readers have more options for getting information on varying issues. It revealed that regarding the distribution matters of newspapers, many of the subscribers are not pleased with the current status. Interestingly publishers are not interested to know from the subscribers regarding delivery related issues.","PeriodicalId":302903,"journal":{"name":"IRA-International Journal of Management & Social Sciences (ISSN 2455-2267)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-11-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116904536","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Peer-reviewed journals, which are being indexed in international citation databases and possess high impact factor, have reference errors. Not only journal articles but also the PubMed database contains bibliographic errors. Due to faulty references, task of indexing and abstracting of authors and articles in citation databases becomes troublesome. The high level of reference accuracy makes the scientific writings more reliable and useful which further moves towards the high quality scholarship.","PeriodicalId":302903,"journal":{"name":"IRA-International Journal of Management & Social Sciences (ISSN 2455-2267)","volume":"5 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-10-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129547068","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The paper further explains the role ECOWAS played in the past in sustaining peace and security in the West African regional community. ECOWAS has been able to conduct peacekeeping in countries such as Liberia, Sierra Leon, and Coted’Ivoire. The methodology used is qualitative design. The work also used published works and internet sources for the purpose of data collection. The findings revealed that, the political conflict between the North and South led to increased security threats by the Boko Haram in Nigeria. In Gambia, the actions of President Jammeh who initially accepted election result, knowing that he was defeated and later rejected the outcome of the elections which led to apolitical conflict. Therefore, the paper recommends early warning mechanism to be employed in handling issues that may result into conflict.","PeriodicalId":302903,"journal":{"name":"IRA-International Journal of Management & Social Sciences (ISSN 2455-2267)","volume":"25 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-09-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126934064","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Their adverse effects are further expected to escalate with the present pace of global climate change, making it necessary to devise suitable adaptation measures for sustainable agriculture. Given these premises, the present study based in one frequently flood hit district of Dhemaji in the state of Assam, India, makes an attempt to examine whether cropping intensity of the cultivator households is affected by their flood proneness. Ordinary least square estimation result shows that the cultivator households in flood prone areas have statistically higher cropping intensity compared to the flood free households. This, however, does not in any way predict higher agricultural production or productivity by the flood prone farmers. The results, on the contrary, implicitly prescribe for a comprehensive agricultural policy particularly designed for flood prone areas, enveloping strategies but not limited to suitable irrigation infrastructure, mass awareness for productive agricultural practices, subsidised seeds and other inputs, and post harvest agriculture infrastructures including marketing facilities.","PeriodicalId":302903,"journal":{"name":"IRA-International Journal of Management & Social Sciences (ISSN 2455-2267)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-08-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125634530","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Community based palliative care model is one of the successful models of extending health care services which necessarily involves the work of volunteers in a community. This model has been very successful in the Indian state of Kerala. The aim of the study was to identify the factors which actively motivate and sustain the work of volunteers in community based palliative care. Case study research design was employed in this study. The current study identifies altruism, spirituality, personal experiences and better social relationships as the prime motivations of volunteers in community based palliative care. Identification of volunteer motivations would better help in devising sustainable participatory health care programmes.","PeriodicalId":302903,"journal":{"name":"IRA-International Journal of Management & Social Sciences (ISSN 2455-2267)","volume":"47 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-08-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127889824","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Higher education has grown rapidly, at the same time the cost of higher education is also rising throughout the world. Education loan or student loan schemes, as one of the sources of financing higher education, have been introduced in most of the countries. This paper attempts to understand and compare the student loan schemes introduced and implemented in India and Australia either through the commercial banks or through the government. The study concludes that the student loan procedures followed in other countries can also be considered with suitable modifications for the improvement of our education loan scheme at present.","PeriodicalId":302903,"journal":{"name":"IRA-International Journal of Management & Social Sciences (ISSN 2455-2267)","volume":"29 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-08-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"120959362","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Being human corroborated with the fact of belonging to a particular gender determines the identity and substance of a human being. What follows is a power relationship between ‘being human’ and ‘being a particular gender’ with mostly one dominating the other. Defining is the ‘gender’ a social construct, not ‘human’ as natural. It is explicitly a tussle of power amid‘nature’ and ‘culture’ or what we call as ‘social’ that percolates down to all the levels of human existence.The result has been an ‘unequal equation’ within human relations either with nature or within themselves. As ‘Man’ and ‘Woman’ are the two unequal values allied with human beings; so are the definitions associated with both.What is a ‘man’ and a ‘woman’? And what it means to be a ‘man’ and a ‘woman’ under different settings and circumstances? The answers are not so intricate to find and perhaps lies in the question itself, what is it that induces us to ask such questions? When nature was appropriate to create human beings as males and females essential and complimentary to each other,who created ‘man and woman’ the binaries in hierarchy, or to be more precise the ‘woman’; for there never came a time when we were induced to ask and define the identity of ‘man’. Man is a ‘man’ and always was, the ultimate human being or the norm. But a‘woman’ is a ‘woman – a subjective reality’ and needed to be defined, as there is more to the etymological and historical meaning of the word ‘woman’ than the biological meaning of it, that is to be a ‘female human being’.Biology is not enough to give answers to the questions that are before us; why is women ‘other’? What humanity has made of the human female? These were some of the questions that preoccupied many women and men, andgot tenderedbefore us in the form of ‘feminism’.The present paper aims to emphasize upon how the identity as a function of thought process with various expressionshas determined the existence of women. Andhow farthe ‘Woman Question’was dealt in both theory and praxis in different places and periods of time, leading to the emergence of ‘feminism’. The methodology adopted istextual analysis and interpretation.","PeriodicalId":302903,"journal":{"name":"IRA-International Journal of Management & Social Sciences (ISSN 2455-2267)","volume":"2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-08-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122211836","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
