The output observations of the nonlinear channel are regarded as inputs of the RBF neural filter. The weights of the neural network are updated by the LA algorithm that is based on Lyapunov stability theory so that the error between the reference signal and output of the RBF neural filter can converge to zero asymptotically. The stochastic properties of the signals are not required and the stability is guaranteed by the Lyapunov stability theory. The design of the LA algorithm is extremely simplified compared with existing LMS and RLS algorithms. Hence, the proposed scheme possesses distinct advantages of stability, speed of convergence, convergence properties and some key features of RBF neural networks over the conventional linear filter with RLS and LMS for channel equalization.","PeriodicalId":302569,"journal":{"name":"ISSPA '99. A backpropagation neural network is proposed that learns correlations between data items in the database and generates predictions. It is well known that the MUSIC method with a circular array is the high resolution technique to estimate the azimuthal and elevational directions-of-arrival (DOA). However, in general, the MUSIC method cannot distinguish multiple signals when the unknown source signal is highly coherent with the known source signal. By incorporating known source directions, the estimation of unknown source directions can be significantly improved. We propose the constrained MUSIC method with circular array and perform computer simulations to demonstrate the usefulness of the new approach.","PeriodicalId":302569,"journal":{"name":"ISSPA '99. Image-guided noninvasive and minimally invasive therapeutic procedures are becoming increasingly attractive in the practice of surgery in modern medicine. The last decade has witnessed significant efforts to develop therapeutic devices employing various forms of non-ionizing radiation to produce localized tissue necrosis and/or ablation to achieve a desired therapeutic end point. However, image guidance is one of the major challenges common to all noninvasive and minimally invasive procedures including biopsy, thermal ablation, endoscopy, and laparoscopy. Interactive image guidance paradigms increasingly utilize complimentary information from image data from two different modalities. In thermal ablation, for example, 3D MR patient data sets are utilized for treatment planning and target delineation while 2D real-time ultrasound is utilized for visualization of the ablated region. In this case, successful registration of images from the two modalities is key to the eventual success of this kind of noninvasive surgery in the future. The general area of multimodality image registration is currently receiving significant attention from the medical image processing community. Interactive image guidance requires intramodality as well as intermodality registration of time varying images of the region of interest. The time varying nature of the problem is due to tissue motion and deformation as well as changes in tissue properties due to the therapeutic agents, e.g., heat. Here, the current status of image registration in medical image processing is described. Examples of frame based, point landmark based, and voxel based image registration algorithms are given. Some of the special considerations for successful registration of time varying imagery undergoing motion and deformation are described. Optical flow techniques for motion analysis and target tracking are discussed. In addition, statistical imaging models for treatment monitoring and damage assessment are addressed and illustrated with examples. Signal processing aspects of the outstanding problems are highlighted.","PeriodicalId":302569,"journal":{"name":"ISSPA '99. The channel estimator explicitly models the time variation of the channel taps via polynomials and the feedforward/feedback filter (FFF/FBF) taps of the DFE are computed from the time-varying channel impulse response estimate. In fast fading channels, as the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) increases, the proposed DFE structure outperforms the per-survivor processing (PSP) based MLSD receiver which employs the least mean squares (LMS) algorithm for channel estimation.","PeriodicalId":302569,"journal":{"name":"ISSPA '99. Wavelet transform based technique for speckle noise suppression and data compression for SAR images 基于小波变换的SAR图像散斑噪声抑制与数据压缩技术

We have performed normalization and shrinking of wavelet coefficients of SAR images to remove the speckles from the SAR imagery and then apply wavelet based set partitioning in hierarchical trees (SPHIT) algorithm for image compression which further improves the quality. Since radar images contain multiplicative speckle noise, the normalization technique is used to convert multiplicative noise into additive noise, and then remove it by shrinkage of wavelet coefficients. The normalization is done with respect to coarse scale (low frequency) wavelet coefficients and applied to all finer scale coefficients (high frequency) spatially related with coarse scale coefficients. This works well since wavelet coefficients are modulated by the multiplicative character of the speckle in a manner that is proportional to the target mean back scattering coefficient. Four types of test images have been selected for the demonstration of results and excellent quality reconstruction are obtained at data rates as low as 0.5 bpp for detected imageries.","PeriodicalId":302569,"journal":{"name":"ISSPA '99. Then the simulation method and simulation settings are described. The simulated model errors were element position errors, amplitude and phase errors in the antenna channels and finally errors in the estimated number-of-targets. The latter is a MUSIC specific model error and is described in greater detail. Results from the simulations showed that only at very high error levels did the performance of MUSIC deteriorate to a level that is comparable to what conventional beam forming achieves.","PeriodicalId":302569,"journal":{"name":"ISSPA '99.
