Firstly, the source significance of the SPIHT coded output is obtained. Based upon the significance of the bits, the channel coding is varied accordingly. Channel coding consists of a mixture of rate compatible punctured convolutional (RCPC) codes and interleaving to combat the burst errors produced by the fading channel. An additional error concealment technique is also introduced into the SPIHT decoder to improve its results in cases where errors cause the corruption of the average luminance level during decoding. Comparison with using RS block codes at a total transmission rate of 1.0 bpp (bits/pixel) is carried out over fading channels with very high error rates to show the superiority of this method over methods using fixed rate burst error codes.","PeriodicalId":302569,"journal":{"name":"ISSPA '99. In particular, the pre-processing procedure leads to effective reduction of the eigenvalue spread of a Volterra input auto-correlation matrix, and thus improves the convergence rate of the adaptation process even in case of wide classes of input processes. To demonstrate the performance of the proposed approach, some simulation results are provided.","PeriodicalId":302569,"journal":{"name":"ISSPA '99. This implies the adjustment of a total of N/spl middot/L parameters corresponding to L taps at each of the N antenna elements. This paper discusses the adaptive control of a broadband antenna array using a gradient search-type algorithm wherein only a single coefficient vector of size M+1 is adjusted, where M is the aperture size in half-wavelengths at a reference frequency f/sub u/. This is accomplished by utilising frequency-invariant (FI) beamformers, obtained specifically via a 2D-DFT-transformation. Simulations verify the effectiveness of this technique and the subsequent improvement in convergence speed in adaptive broadband nulling.","PeriodicalId":302569,"journal":{"name":"ISSPA '99. Most known algorithms for blind signal extraction fail to separate all desired sources if the kurtosis is very low or equals zero. In this paper we propose a new simple second order statistic batch algorithm which is able to efficiently extract various temporally correlated sources even if they have very small or even zero kurtosis, for example colored Gaussian sources. Computer simulation examples illustrate validity and performance of the proposed approach for noisy biomedical signals.","PeriodicalId":302569,"journal":{"name":"ISSPA '99. Though string matching algorithms effectively deal with the input fault tolerance of user query, they require much time to search the entire database. A user query is searched in two steps, a coarse classification using rhythm pattern and an interval comparison based on approximate string matching. The experimental results show that the proposed method efficiently improve the retrieval time.","PeriodicalId":302569,"journal":{"name":"ISSPA '99. This paper introduces a speech compression method based on vector quantization of epochs. Pitch determination, epoch marking, vector quantization procedure, and a technique for epoch extrapolation are described.
