In this work, action videos are represented by dictionaries which are learned by online dictionary learning (ODL). Here, we have used two simple measures to classify action videos, reconstruction error and projection. Sparse approximation algorithm LASSO is used to reconstruct test video and reconstruction error is calculated for each of the dictionaries. To get another discriminative measure projection, the test vector is projected onto the atoms in the dictionary. Minimum reconstruction error and maximum projection give information regarding the action category of the test vector. With action bank as a feature vector, our best performance is 59.3% on UCF50 (benchmark is 57.9%), 97.7% on KTH (benchmark is 98.2%)and 23.63% on HMDB51 (benchmark is 26.9%).","PeriodicalId":301856,"journal":{"name":"2014 19th International Conference on Digital Signal Processing","volume":"18 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-09-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125261268","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this study, we proposed an innovative method to investigate the in vivo muscle behavior of hemiplegia patient. We developed an experimental platform for simultaneous acquisition of ultrasonography (US), electromyography (EMG), and joint angle during dynamic muscle contraction. By utilizing this platform, we measured five hemiplegia patients during walking and analyzed the characteristics of their muscle behaviors. The results suggested that the proposed multimodal signal acquisition and integration platform is capable of providing novel and complete information about in vivo muscle contraction. The proposed platform is a potentially useful tool for the assessment of hemiplegia patients in clinical applications.","PeriodicalId":301856,"journal":{"name":"2014 19th International Conference on Digital Signal Processing","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-09-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130698276","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper discusses the application of the QuadCS system to pulse-Doppler radars and develops a compressive sampling pulse-Doppler (CoSaPD) processing scheme from the sub-Nyquist samples. The Doppler estimation is realized through spectrum analyzer as in classic processing. The detection is done on the Doppler bin data. The range estimation is performed through sparse recovery algorithms on the detected targets. Due to inherent detection property of the recovery algorithms, the detection threshold can be set at a low value and then the introduced false targets are removed in the range estimation stage. Simulation results show that the CoSaPD scheme with the data at one eighth the Nyquist rate and for SNR above -25dB can achieve performance of the classic processing with Nyquist samples.","PeriodicalId":301856,"journal":{"name":"2014 19th International Conference on Digital Signal Processing","volume":"109 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-09-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133556660","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

They are the real discrete fractional Fourier transform (RDFRFT) and the real discrete fractional Hartley transform (RDFRHT). The eigenvectors of these two new transforms are all random, and they both have only two distinct eigenvalues: 1 or -1. Real eigenvectors of both two transforms are constructed from random DFT-commuting matrices. We also propose an alternative definition of RDFRHT based on a diagonal-like matrix. All of the proposed new transforms have required good properties to be fractional transforms. Finally, since outputs of proposed new transforms are random, they can be applied in image encryptions.","PeriodicalId":301856,"journal":{"name":"2014 19th International Conference on Digital Signal Processing","volume":"17 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-09-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133743913","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In the proposed approach, local histogram feature is employed to capture spatial information for comprehensive visual variations including illumination, color and motions. To improve the reliability of histogram feature in differentiating motion related shot transitions, the structural similarity measure is involved to help suppress the motion sensitivity and hence minimize false detection rate due to transition disturbances. Therefore, the proposed combination of local histogram feature and structural similarity measure offers a more robust framework to correctly evaluate frame discontinuities. Moreover, in order to ensure good performances in detecting both cut changes and gradual transitions, we propose an adaptive dual-thresholding scheme which addresses both global statistics and local variations of the frame discontinuities. Experimental results evaluated with challenging testing videos show that the proposed method achieves better overall performances than other conventional algorithms.","PeriodicalId":301856,"journal":{"name":"2014 19th International Conference on Digital Signal Processing","volume":"20 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-09-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133264294","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper proposes a novel 3D human mouth animation model by introducing compliant spatial mechanisms. This method integrates the features of both the traditional muscle model and compliant spatial mechanisms model. Based on mouth movement characteristics, compliant spatial mechanisms model is used to simulate the movements of mouth opening and closing, and the muscle model is used to control the parts of orbicularis oris, risorius and so on. Simulation experiments show that this method can describe the physical movement of mouth opening and closing, therefore, realistic and natural mouth expression animation can be obtained.","PeriodicalId":301856,"journal":{"name":"2014 19th International Conference on Digital Signal Processing","volume":"53 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-09-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122190130","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The two images may be perceived alternately. Dichoptic images with luminance discrepancy may appear as a fluctuating silver sheen. The effect is called binocular luster which is a special type of binocular rivalry. Corresponding regions in stereoscopic images with luminance discrepancy may introduce binocular luster. In this paper, our work focuses on the detection model of binocular luster. A psychophysical experiment was conducted to detect the binocular luster thresholds due to binocular luminance discrepancy in different binocular disparities. The luster effect could be introduced into stereoscopic images based on the detection model. In this way, a fluctuating shine effect could be perceived on 3D displays.","PeriodicalId":301856,"journal":{"name":"2014 19th International Conference on Digital Signal Processing","volume":"188 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-09-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114973114","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The flawless restoration of scratches is totally dependent on their perfect detection. False and missed detection weakens the restoration result. In this paper we address the problem of detection of primary and secondary line scratches and also propose a solution for false and missed detection. The problem of simultaneous detection of both dark and bright intensity scratch is also solved by proposed method. The proposed detection method is based on selecting non-traditional TY and TX frames rather than the traditional XY frames of a video. Unlike prior detection techniques that are based on frame by frame processing of XY frames, the proposed method of detection uses a video cube consisting of a group of TY or TX frames and exploits the Spatio-Temporal feature called the regularity flow in a cube. The regular flow of a pixel in a cube indicates the absence of a scratch while irregularity in the flow indicates the presence of a scratch. Experimental results show that the proposed method has no false detection for line scratches of width 1 to 10 pixel.","PeriodicalId":301856,"journal":{"name":"2014 19th International Conference on Digital Signal Processing","volume":"129 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-09-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122901264","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
