Abstract
Realistic mouth animation plays a very important role in facial expressions. This paper proposes a novel 3D human mouth animation model by introducing compliant spatial mechanisms. This method integrates the features of both the traditional muscle model and compliant spatial mechanisms model. Based on mouth movement characteristics, compliant spatial mechanisms model is used to simulate the movements of mouth opening and closing, and the muscle model is used to control the parts of orbicularis oris, risorius and so on. Simulation experiments show that this method can describe the physical movement of mouth opening and closing, therefore, realistic and natural mouth expression animation can be obtained.
