The sense of local belonging, the power of narrative and the listener’s susceptibility to impressions are live-giving phenomena in a situation where disease threatens. Disease often disrupts the life one wants to live. Narrating is related to one’s identity and can help maintain continuity in a life threatened by disease. A new narrative may arise, creating nuanced understanding and recognition of who one is in a changing world. One may thus narrate one’s way back into life, rebuild one’s identity and rediscover the courage to live. Providing space to tell about the presence of nature can help the ill person towards a renewed experience of being in good places. Time is not bound by illness and may provide relief. Here, the relationship to the narrator is of crucial importance and an impressionable listener is an important sounding board for the one who narrates","PeriodicalId":30131,"journal":{"name":"Nordisk Tidsskrift for Helseforskning","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-11-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"45722374","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The purpose of the interviews was to increase understanding of patient experiences of the ward, and their perceived challenges and needs for assistance. The research method was a hermeneutic-phenomenological approach. The essay is based on one of the patient interviews, which has been rewritten as a narrative. This narrative emphasizes how the patient has fought against her illness, and her need to be seen as herself as a person and not understood in terms of a diagnosis. The illness narrative becomes part of her life story. The article highlights opportunities for narratives in the face of serious illness. The narrative reveals how a changed life situation, despite severe illness, can add courage and joy to life, but also how it can lead to hopelessness, doubt, and uncertainty.","PeriodicalId":30131,"journal":{"name":"Nordisk Tidsskrift for Helseforskning","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-11-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"47550516","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Life courage is an existential life phenomenon. The life phenomena life courage and joy of life are in this article the key phenomena to be focused on. The article describes both differences and similarities between relational-ethical and existential life phenomena, which can promote but also restrict life. Moreover, some of the important differences between needs and life phenomena are also brought forward. The argumentation is based on empirical research examples of how close relations can contribute to creating life conducive or life restrictions for the ill and suffering person. It is in the interaction with others and through the importance of close relations that life courage possibilities arise. The article shows relational experiences from chronically ill persons, persons with a life-threatening disease and dying persons.","PeriodicalId":30131,"journal":{"name":"Nordisk Tidsskrift for Helseforskning","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-11-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"47272357","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A qualitative study of Filipino nurses experience of their way to accreditation in Norway \u0000Healthcare professionals educated outside the EU/EEA are an important source of labor in the Norwegian healthcare system, where nurses and auxiliary nurses from the Philippines constitute the largest group. Complicated authority requirements are attached to accreditation in Norway. The study explores how Filipino nurses with three different approvals in the authorization process, experience the process of accreditation in Norway, using qualitative research interviews. The results show that nurses face challenges related to the authorization process in Norway, which they experience as unworthy, unfair, baffling and economically burdensome, but also with experiences of hope for good prospects. A predictable and a dignified authorization process for Filipino nurses should be developed, so that their knowledge and competence can be included and appreciated in the Norwegian health care services.","PeriodicalId":30131,"journal":{"name":"Nordisk Tidsskrift for Helseforskning","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-06-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"44442755","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The subjects, whom qualified as morbidly obese, participated for over a year in a group-based lifestyle intervention with ongoing treatments. A qualitative design was chosen to collect descriptive information throughout semi-structured interviews. There was a total of seven informants (male and female). Weight loss in the morbidly obese is typically achieved through conservative management and lifestyle intervention, with bariatric surgery reserved as a last option. Patients diagnosed with morbid obesity are often concerned about failing yet again after multiple attempts of weight loss. However, when guidance, education, and support from health professionals is provided in addition to active participation within a supportive group with other morbidly obese people, patients become reality-oriented and able to both initiate and sustain an effective lifestyle change.","PeriodicalId":30131,"journal":{"name":"Nordisk Tidsskrift for Helseforskning","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-04-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"45747308","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Age & Stage Questionnaires (ASQ) are used at the two years consultation at Child Health Centers. The aim was to explore parents experience of completing the ASQ tool at two years consultation at the Child Health Center. We used qualitative research methodology with in-depth interviews with parents. The findings show that parents felt positive to fill in the ASQ form. The study also shows a large variation in how parents experienced how the tool was used at the Child Health Centre. The parents' experiences are discussed against theory and other research in the field. The findings are also discussed in light of the purpose of implementing screening tools and results of previous studies in the field. The study concludes that there are many challenges related to the implementation of the tool in the service, and more research is needed in this area.","PeriodicalId":30131,"journal":{"name":"Nordisk Tidsskrift for Helseforskning","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-03-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"42561250","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The article draws on two semi-structured interviews and one focus-group interview. The interviewees are managers in elderly-care facilities that are known to be proficient with regards to innovation. The analysis point to three principles managers describe as being pertinent to successful social innovation. Firstly, an overall theme across the interviews was that the managers underscored the importance of eagerness and willingness to change as a prerequisite for innovation. Secondly, the managers claimed that another crucial condition to facilitate innovation is to involve the employees in both the negotiation and the implementation of innovation. Thirdly, the managers reported that they strive to create a learning environment, arguing that learning and social innovation are interrelated terms and should be treated as such.","PeriodicalId":30131,"journal":{"name":"Nordisk Tidsskrift for Helseforskning","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-03-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"44107919","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Traditionally, healthcare work in nursing homes is regarded as physically strenuous work with a risk of back injuries stemming from adverse movement techniques. The purpose of the study was to analyse healthcare workers’ self-reported evaluation of ergonomic transfer training in a municipality in Norway. The training aimed to improve healthcare personnel’s ergonomic patient handling. N = 73 health care employees from a nursing home and homes to the disabled. Mean response rate during the three points of measurement was 77 %. Data were collected by questionnaire at baseline, at the end of the training, at 18 months, and 36 months after baseline. Then the data were compared using quantitative analysis at group level. Participants reported adequate training, improved availability of transferrelated resources, and increased use of transfer techniques over the course of the measurement periods. Respondents who asked transfer experts for guidance used transfer techniques more than others did.","PeriodicalId":30131,"journal":{"name":"Nordisk Tidsskrift for Helseforskning","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-02-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"44555647","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
