For comparing two methods, symmetrical and unsymmetrical faults are considered and fault locations are randomly selected along the lines using probability distributions. Mean time of occurrence of a fault is calculated based on the probabilistic nature of occurring faults. The proposed method is applied to a practical Indian distribution system. The voltage sags magnitude of different buses are calculated and results are compared with the earlier proposed analytical method.","PeriodicalId":301088,"journal":{"name":"2015 International Conference on Energy, Power and Environment: Towards Sustainable Growth (ICEPE)","volume":"11 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-06-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125334364","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

So the reliability has become a big task for the protection engineers. This paper presents a fast and accurate fault detection technique which is very much useful for reliable operation of the power systems. To achieve fastness and reliable operation various new technologies have been used but out of all the available equipment the use of phasor measurement unit have brought the reliability index to a significant level. An intelligent approach for fault detection has been used in this paper which adapts for changes in the operation level. It uses synchronized samples of the operation voltages and currents from both the ends of the transmission line to detect, and classify the fault. This technique has been implemented on IEEE 57 bus system and it was found that this method has given better results than the methods proposed earlier. With the use of modern equipment which limits the time of operation for few cycles, the time window can be reduced significantly.","PeriodicalId":301088,"journal":{"name":"2015 International Conference on Energy, Power and Environment: Towards Sustainable Growth (ICEPE)","volume":"31 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-06-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127724553","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Outdoor polymeric insulators are subjected to different environmental conditions, causing the formation of different types of water droplets like rain water, fog, saline water etc. on the surface. In this contribution, the conductivity and viscosity of the water droplet have been varied independently in a wide range and the partial discharge inception voltage of the insulating surface in the presence of water droplets has been measured. The investigations are carried out at 50 Hz for 20 μl, 60 μl and 100 μl water droplets. It has been observed that conductivity has almost no effect on partial discharge inception voltage, but the increased viscosity of water droplet results in a higher inception voltage for all volumes.","PeriodicalId":301088,"journal":{"name":"2015 International Conference on Energy, Power and Environment: Towards Sustainable Growth (ICEPE)","volume":"44 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-06-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127815849","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

So the Maximum Power Point (MPP) varies with the changing S and T. However with the advancement of power electronics converter technology, it is now possible to operate the PV power at its MPP in order to improve the overall efficiency. This paper presents maximum power point tracking (MPPT) based on Perturb & Observe (P&O) and Fuzzy Logic Controller (FLC) for PV with dc-dc buck boost converter for the purpose of performance evaluation and comparison analysis thereof. Both the algorithms were simulated in MATLAB-Simulink with 100W PV module (Solar Alpex Panel 1552P-3613G-166109) connected to buck-boost dc-dc converter. The results of simulation and analysis indicate that the proposed FLC algorithms provide better MPP than that of conventional P&O method. FLC algorithms significantly improve the efficiency of MPPT and provides faster responses particularly during fast changing environmental conditions besides the fact that it is simple and can be implemented with PIC Microcontroller or FPGA.","PeriodicalId":301088,"journal":{"name":"2015 International Conference on Energy, Power and Environment: Towards Sustainable Growth (ICEPE)","volume":"127 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-06-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115001896","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In many power applications like various microcontrollers, several electronic ICs, laptops, traction signaling, electric vehicles etc, low dc voltage supply is required in controlled manner. The proposed DC-DC converter with interleaved technique can step down a high DC voltage to very low DC voltage with lesser voltage ripple and low value of inductor and capacitor thus reducing the size. With conventional buck chopper for converting high voltage to low voltage, very small duty cycle is required which further adds several limitations on different components and triggering circuitry and requires relatively high values of inductor and capacitor to insure permissible current ripple and voltage ripple i.e. within limits. Simulations have been performed using MATLAB / SIMULINK. All results clearly show that very low voltage can be obtained using proposed topology. Moreover, the desired values of the output voltages can be numerically calculated which absolutely match with simulation results.","PeriodicalId":301088,"journal":{"name":"2015 International Conference on Energy, Power and Environment: Towards Sustainable Growth (ICEPE)","volume":"39 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-06-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123704088","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Due to large interconnection of the power system it is not possible to allocate Phasor Measurement Units at strategic location in one go. So, in this paper a multistage (three stages) optimal placement of Phasor Measurement Units method is proposed based on network connectivity information. This paper consist of two parts viz. Part 1 represents the optimal placement of Phasor Measurement Units considering the power system operating at normal condition and Part 2 represents the optimal placement of Phasor Measurement Units considering contingency cases like single line of the system or single Phasor Measurement Units of the system outages. This paper studies the effect of distributed generations (DG) and voltage regulators (VR) on voltage profile and efficiency of a radial system. In order to obtain the load flow solution of the radial system, a quadratic equation based backward forward sweep technique have been employed in this paper. A method have been proposed in this paper for handling multiple PV buses in the backward forward sweep algorithm. The proposed algorithm is tested on a 31-bus radial distribution system.
