The validity of the estimation is checked in the LTE FDD downlink environment by means of the industry-standard simulator that provided values close to the analytically predicted ones. Optimal sample time estimation can be used as a means to explore the ultimate error floor values, but the model can also be of practical use in adaptive sampling schemes.","PeriodicalId":300798,"journal":{"name":"2015 Wireless Telecommunications Symposium (WTS)","volume":"32 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-04-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117012211","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Introducing this node may degrade or improve the overall system performance, depending on the power imbalance between the hops. In this paper a unified framework to estimate the performance of dual-hop fixed-gain relay system when each hop is subjected to κ-μ shadowed fading is presented. Specifically, new closed form expressions are derived for the outage probability, the generalized moments, the moment generating function (MGF), and the ergodic capacity. This unified analytical framework is obtained in terms of well-known and easily computable functions. The accuracy of the analytical results is verified through computer simulations.","PeriodicalId":300798,"journal":{"name":"2015 Wireless Telecommunications Symposium (WTS)","volume":"122 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-04-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116042107","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Our goal is to minimize the overall energy costs, including the operating cost and wake-up cost, while still guaranteeing the deadline of each individual task. In particular, we consider the homogeneous case in which it takes the same amount of time to serve each task and each task needs to be served by d seconds upon arrival. In this paper, we focus on both off-line and online control problems and determine the right time (a control variable) to wake up the system. For off-line control, we use sample path analysis to discover that the best time to wake up the system can be calculated based on task arrival information. For online control, we propose an iterative algorithm that dynamically adjusts the system wake-up time based on newly available and backlogged task information. We show that the online control and the off-line control return the same optimal wake-up time.","PeriodicalId":300798,"journal":{"name":"2015 Wireless Telecommunications Symposium (WTS)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-04-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125789064","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is well known that the premature termination of the BP decoding due to the lack of degree one symbols in the ripple impairs the decoding performance of the code. This problem has been well studied and tackled for binary erasure channel (BEC). However, for binary input additive white Gaussian noise (BIAWGN) channels, the issue still remains unaddressed. In this paper, we propose Gauss-Jordan elimination (GJE)-assisted BP algorithm to address this problem and study its decoding performance for short LT codes over BIAWGN channels. The use of GJE can effectively help the BP decoder continue the decoding process whenever it gets stuck due to the premature termination. Simulation results show that, under the same channel conditions and transmission overheads, the bit error rate (BER) performance obtained using the GJE-assisted BP method significantly outperforms the one obtained using the traditional BP algorithm.","PeriodicalId":300798,"journal":{"name":"2015 Wireless Telecommunications Symposium (WTS)","volume":"12 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-04-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133124060","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

WLAN security becomes mission one, especially a new type of attacks called covert channel based attack surfaced over the past few years. This attack uses different data rates provided in WLAN to transmit a secret message. Detecting this covert channel could be difficult due to existence of rate diversity in 802.11 WLAN. Multiple transmission data rates are supported to exploit the trade-off between obtaining the highest possible data rate and trying to minimize the number of communication errors. In this paper, a feature modal is proposed to form possible hypotheses and then statistic hypothesis testing is applied. Simulation results on publicly available WLAN traffic show that our proposed approach could achieve 100% detection rate.","PeriodicalId":300798,"journal":{"name":"2015 Wireless Telecommunications Symposium (WTS)","volume":"223 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-04-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121352506","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The multiple access relay channel (MARC), in which multiple users communicate with a common destination via a relay, is one of the important network coding applications for wireless cooperative communications. In this paper, link adaptive relaying (LAR) approach which combats performance degradation due to error propagation in digital relaying based wireless networks has been applied to the MARC model with noncoherent binary frequency shift keying (BFSK) and differential binary phase shift keying (DPSK) signalings which are among the prominent techniques for eliminating the need for channel estimation by training sequences. Simulation results for Nakagami-m fading channels have shown that the proposed MARC model with LAR scheme outperforms the noncooperative system that involves direct transmissions and overcome the diversity gain reduction due to error propagation.","PeriodicalId":300798,"journal":{"name":"2015 Wireless Telecommunications Symposium (WTS)","volume":"15 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-04-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123768277","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A lump sum of the branch weight squares is employed in the conventional analysis of the MRC reception. The conventional MRC reception whose first- and second-order statistics were only derived on a noise-free condition can never be achieved in practice because the branches, which are smeared by crosscorrelation and are corrupted by noise, can only be statistically specified and they must be considered of as stochastic processes at the receiver, instead of deterministic time functions. The proposed method, in fact, considers the branch weights as stochastic processes and effectively restores diversity by the assistance from a linear transformation. Significant component selection combining (SCSC) can hence be applied not only to simplify the inner receiver but also to reduce the estimation error and the thermal noise. The MRC reception is then conducted with assistance from estimates of the decorrelated branches that are selected by the SCSC methods. The performance merit figures, i.e., first- and second-order statistics, must be redefined in the post-inner-receiving sense to provide sufficient and accurate information required for the design or the derivations of the outer receiving techniques or algorithms. The first- and second-order statistics of the MRC reception over the significant decorrelated diversity branches were verified by computer simulations.","PeriodicalId":300798,"journal":{"name":"2015 Wireless Telecommunications Symposium (WTS)","volume":"42 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-04-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126128469","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To mitigate pilot contamination, a novel cell sectorization-based pilot assignment (CS-PA) scheme is proposed in this paper. By separating the users that transmit the same pilot in physical space, the pilot transmitted by the user in each sector is orthogonal with pilots transmitted by the users in adjacent sectors. Due to the advantages of cell sectorization and pilot assignment, the proposed CS-PA scheme can effectively suppress pilot contamination. In addition, the proposed CS-PA scheme achieves higher system throughput as the number of base station antennas tends to infinity. The closed-form expression for the achieved rates is derived to verify the advantages of the proposed scheme. Numerical results show that the proposed CS-PA scheme significantly outperforms the typical pilot contamination mitigation methods.","PeriodicalId":300798,"journal":{"name":"2015 Wireless Telecommunications Symposium (WTS)","volume":"150 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-04-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133890321","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper, we extend this method to Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) systems on time-varying frequency-selective Rayleigh fading channels. In particular, we derive the soft reliability information from the frequency domain CSI. The performance of the OFDM system is verified using the Koetter and Vardy, Reed-Solomon (KV-RS) algebraic soft decision decoding algorithm. We compare the Codeword Error Rate (CER) performance of the OFDM system with 16-QAM as the modulation schemes. In addition, the OFDM system performance is documented for different values of normalized Doppler frequency, and frame length size. From the computer simulation results, the proposed method offers superior CER performance in comparison with the conventionally used DM method in the literature with no significant increase in computational time complexity.","PeriodicalId":300798,"journal":{"name":"2015 Wireless Telecommunications Symposium (WTS)","volume":"10 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-04-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133197825","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
