We also test if the online purchase probability of consumers increases over time. Our data is from the Canadian Internet Use Survey over four years, consisting of at least 23,178 participants per year, relative to previous studies this is a very large dataset. We segment the participants into two groups: 1) those that use only their personal computer (PC) to access the Internet and 2) those that use their PC and a mobile device (mobile phone, tablet, etc.) to access the Internet. For each group we determine the purchase probabilities of consumers for 15 different product category types. Using 95% confidence intervals about the determined purchase probabilities we test if the purchase probability of one group is higher than the other. We find that mobile devices lead to a statistically greater purchase probability in only 4 of the 15 product categories. In addition, the purchase probability of households using mobile devices and PCs to access the Internet only increases between years 2005 and 2007, and is statistically unchanged between all other years. However, for households that use only a PC to access the Internet, the purchase probability increases each year the survey was conducted.","PeriodicalId":300798,"journal":{"name":"2015 Wireless Telecommunications Symposium (WTS)","volume":"68 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-04-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130249966","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Using the wireless communication leads to a lack of security. Due to the characteristics of mobile nodes, they have batteries as power source, so their energy is constrained. A routing protocol for MANETs has to take into account this constraint, limiting the amount of used energy. Introducing security measures to protect the network against malicious nodes has an impact on the energy amount required to nodes. To improve security of the network, there are already proposals that use cryptography to secure routing packets. In this contribution, a trust management system is introduced into the well-known protocol SAODV, to protect the network against effective attacks not protected by that protocol. The proposal is evaluated using gray hole attack and comparing performances and energy consumption between the SAODV with and without Trust Management Scheme.","PeriodicalId":300798,"journal":{"name":"2015 Wireless Telecommunications Symposium (WTS)","volume":"5 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-04-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127082608","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The proposed method is based on a slightly modified SLM approach that enables the use of a low complexity binary detection criterion for SI estimation, without the need for SI transmission. Simulations show that the combined PAPR reduction and BER performance of the proposed method is similar to both pilot-assisted Maximum-Likelihood (PAML) SI estimation scheme and standard SLM that presumes perfect knowledge of SI. In addition, relative to the PAML scheme, the proposed method offers significantly reduced computational complexity.","PeriodicalId":300798,"journal":{"name":"2015 Wireless Telecommunications Symposium (WTS)","volume":"35 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-04-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123414099","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The density of these types of wireless transactions will steadily increase as the Internet of Things (IoT) expands. To mitigate the growing demand for wireless bandwidth, the available frequency bands can be more effectively shared and reused through the use of transmission power control (TPC). There are several advantages to taking a fuzzy-based approach to TPC; however, existing fuzzy control proposals are primarily designed for cognitive radios and use inputs that are unavailable to ordinary ad hoc networks. Our contribution is the presentation of a lightweight fuzzy-based controller that is designed for resource-constrained nodes in ad hoc networks. By using only two commonly available radio hardware metrics, our controller reduces the computational overhead and improves the response time of the power control cycle when compared to other fuzzy-based TPC designs.","PeriodicalId":300798,"journal":{"name":"2015 Wireless Telecommunications Symposium (WTS)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-04-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129565609","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Today microwave link design tools design only a single link pair at a time or, at most, a network of direct links between communicating sites. In many cases one can realize substantial savings in mast and equipment costs by routing the flows between communicating sites via third sites rather than via direct links. Furthermore, in some cases direct links may be infeasible due to technical or regulatory reasons, and rerouting flows via other sites may be necessary. To do this with today's tools, a wireless network design engineer is forced to manually try various combinations of direct links. This work describes a prototype system that automates this process by modeling it as a combinatorial optimization problem. (The underlying optimization problem is NP-Complete and in approximable.) We tested our system by using it to find high-quality solutions to several realistic problem instances.","PeriodicalId":300798,"journal":{"name":"2015 Wireless Telecommunications Symposium (WTS)","volume":"3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-04-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127719993","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The focus is on the operation of the core MPLS networks. The proposed approach is based on a software defined networking (SDN) scheme with a reconfigurable centralized controller, which turns off certain network elements. The methodology comprises the process of identifying time periods with lower traffic demand; the ranking of the network elements, based on their utilization and criticality; the rerouting of the traffic off the least utilized elements; and finally, the switching off of the appropriate nodes or links. An algorithm for traffic rerouting, based on the MPLS traffic engineering techniques is proposed and its performance is evaluated in terms of the achieved energy efficiency in accordance with predefined connectivity and quality of service constraints.","PeriodicalId":300798,"journal":{"name":"2015 Wireless Telecommunications Symposium (WTS)","volume":"33 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-04-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131547496","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It can lead to many problems including increased risk of cardiovascular disease, diabetes, functional limitations, and disabilities which adversely affect the social and physical abilities of the obese person in daily affairs. While the rising trend of obesity in adults is a serious problem, the rise of obesity in youths is even more severe. Various recent studies have indicated that youth obesity has become so widespread that, if left unaddressed, it would have severe implications on the society health, productivity, and economy. This paper proposes a multiplayer ubiquitous gaming system which unveil the hidden potential within obese youth and improve their skills and physical activities and get them healthy. This is intended to be done through the use of mobile wireless sensors, to provide real time monitoring of the patient bio signals and to suggest suitable actions in terms of physical activity. The system is aimed to engage and encourage youth, particularly in the State of Qatar, in their obesity rehabilitation process, increase their social activities, and help them get healthy in an entertaining way while reinforcing positive exercise habits.","PeriodicalId":300798,"journal":{"name":"2015 Wireless Telecommunications Symposium (WTS)","volume":"102 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-04-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132270958","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

For the proposed scheme, the estimation of the I/Q and channel parameters have been performed in the frequency domain. By the help of the estimated values, a nominal I/Q gain and phase has been obtained which has been fed back to do the I/Q correction in the time domain. The corrected signal with some residue I/Q imbalance along with the channel have been compensated afterwards. The performance of the proposed scheme has been extensively studied by means of computer simulations using MATLAB. With the proposed ACCC scheme, the signal to noise ratio (SNR) degradation is approximately 2 dB higher than the reference symbol error rate (SER) obtained for no I/Q imbalance and channel condition, at a specified symbol error rate (SER) of 10-3. Next, in order to assess the robustness of the proposed scheme, it has been compared with three other previously published schemes, under different conditions. The results depict that the proposed ACCC scheme significantly outperforms the three other existing schemes by expending less than 2% of the subcarriers as pilots.","PeriodicalId":300798,"journal":{"name":"2015 Wireless Telecommunications Symposium (WTS)","volume":"50 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-04-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129952041","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In a situation where the SNR is low due to Rayleigh fading, the receiver signal may show a sudden loss. Such signal loss may result in significant loss of information at the receiver and it is the duration of such a loss period that will most significantly cause channel and source coding to fail. To avoid such a phenomenon in relay selection, it is important to compute second-order statistics and select relays based on fade duration (FD), both average fade duration (AFD) and the probability that a fade duration will exceed a threshold. This paper provides algorithms for AFD-based and FD threshold-based relay selection in multiple and single hop cooperative wireless networks. It also shows how to increase the reliability of the network by minimizing the average fade duration.","PeriodicalId":300798,"journal":{"name":"2015 Wireless Telecommunications Symposium (WTS)","volume":"9 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-04-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122342449","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

For estimation purpose, the LTE standard provides known data as pilots symbols and exploits them through a coherent detection to improve system performance. These drivers are placed in a hybrid way to cover up both time and frequency domain. Our aim is to precise how to adapt the Full Volterra technique to the LTE standard in order to compensate linear and nonlinear effects introduced by power amplifier and multipath channel. We present the comportment of Full Volterra equalizer in term of BLER, EVM (%) and Throughput versus SNR. Then we compare our results with basic RLSequalizercurves. Moreover, it is shown that the Full Volterra model can significantly reduce interferences and nonlinear effects and consequently improves the performances of LTE Downlink System.","PeriodicalId":300798,"journal":{"name":"2015 Wireless Telecommunications Symposium (WTS)","volume":"131 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-04-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124254234","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
