This paper reports the construction and optimization of a Broadband Optical Single Sideband Prototype. We present our work in the implementation of optical single-sideband (OSSB) modulation and in the application of this modulation format for baseband transmission and microwave photonics. We report on the optimization of an Optical Single Sideband (OSSB) prototype transmitter 10 Gbit/s data rates. The system robustness to chromatic dispersion as well as the efficiency of the electric chromatic dispersion compensation were evaluated and reported.","PeriodicalId":300247,"journal":{"name":"2009 Mediterrannean Microwave Symposium (MMS)","volume":"173 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121100471","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The impulse waveform is one of the key factors that influence the performance of these systems. While fulfilling the FCC spectral emission requirements, the pulse shape must offer high detection capabilities with suitable levels of accuracy. In this paper, various pulse shapes are considered within a computationally-efficient fast acquisition system under different scenarios of interference and Gaussian noise in extensive Monte-Carlo simulations. The results show the 4th order Gaussian derivative as the most suitable pulse shape for this new UWB fast acquisition system suggested for ranging in a peculiar confined environment, which offers very acceptable positioning error range at high levels of noise and interference, while also yielding greatly reduced complexity and acquisition time.","PeriodicalId":300247,"journal":{"name":"2009 Mediterrannean Microwave Symposium (MMS)","volume":"70 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122949675","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Closed-form two-dimensional Green's functions for the scalar and vector potentials are analytically obtained in the space domain due to the approximation of its spectral-domain version with Discrete Complex Images Method (DCIM), thus avoiding lengthy numerical evaluations. It will be shown that a suitable choice of the sampling path is key to reducing the number of images and to avoiding the necessity of extracting spectral poles. The advantages of this approach will be illustrated by numerical results.","PeriodicalId":300247,"journal":{"name":"2009 Mediterrannean Microwave Symposium (MMS)","volume":"2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116878463","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We have used a power detector for estimating the DC offset. After, we have injected a compensation voltage for eliminating this DC offset. To achieve band rejection behaviour, Complementary Split Ring Resonators (CSRR) are placed in the central conductor strip of a conventional stripline planar transmission line. Due to strong normal electric field incidence, adequate excitation of the stripline is achieved, leading to band rejection in the quasi-static resonance frequency of the CSRR particles. We simulate the propagation of Gaussian beams in a large scale environment at 62.4 GHz. First, a known far field pattern of the transmitter antenna is expanded into a set of Gaussian beams. We chose Gabor expansion based method to expanding radiating field into Gaussian beams. Then, a Gaussian beam tracing model considering reflections and transmission is used to represent urban microcell propagation. We use a phase matching method to find reflected Gaussian beam The results of the Gaussian beam tracing simulations including line-of-sight (LOS) and non-line-of-sight (NLOS) propagation are compared with the results of the ray tracing method. The results are in good agreement with results of ray tracing technique on the same geometry. Overall coverage map shows the dominant effect of shadowing in the millimeter wave band. The tracing technique is faster and more promising compared to exhausted ray tracing methods.","PeriodicalId":300247,"journal":{"name":"2009 Mediterrannean Microwave Symposium (MMS)","volume":"33 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124030667","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This work has investigated design development, simulation, miniaturization and are comparing with these four types of SRRs of an open end a waveguide dual band antenna. A novel technique was employed to miniaturize the open-ended radiator using electromagnetic metamaterials (MTM). The antenna is capable of radiating below the cutoff frequency of the waveguide by supporting backward waves. Comparing previous work of miniaturization of waveguides, a better bandwidth about 600 MHz, good matching, dual band and low profile (with 5 unit cell of MTMs) antenna is obtained.","PeriodicalId":300247,"journal":{"name":"2009 Mediterrannean Microwave Symposium (MMS)","volume":"74 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124044209","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
