Mobile users request various services with different Quality of Service (QoS) characteristics and they determine in a distributed and non-cooperative manner a joint subcarrier and power allocation towards fulfilling their QoS prerequisites. Initially, a well-designed utility function is formulated to appropriately represent users’ diverse QoS prerequisites with respect to their requested service. The subcarriers allocation problem is solved based on a multilateral bargaining model, where users are able to select different discount factors to enter the bargaining game, thus better expressing their different needs in system resources with respect to their requested service. The subcarriers mapping is realized based either on the localized SC-FDMA method where the subcarriers are sequentially allocated to the users or the distributed SC-FDMA via considering the maximum channel gain policy, where each subcarrier is allocated to the user with the maximum channel gain. Given the subcarriers assignment, an optimization problem with respect to users’ uplink transmission power is formulated and solved, in order to determine the optimal power allocation per subcarrier assigned to each user. Finally, the performance of the proposed framework is evaluated via modeling and simulation and extensive numerical results are presented.","PeriodicalId":299985,"journal":{"name":"EAI Endorsed Trans. The user equipment (UE) nodes connect to the Internet through packet gateway nodes. Multiple P-GWs in the LTE core network forward these packets. Thus, based on how the sessions are established, different gateways may handle different levels of network traffic. If proper load balancing algorithms are not used, the load on some gateways may be higher than others leading to Quality of Service (QoS) degradation. We propose six different heuristics for load balancing, including one based on entropy called EBA. The entropy function provides an accurate measure of the difference in the load on the gateways. The performance studies show that the EBA algorithm provides good performance improvement for networks consisting of 1,00,000 users, 12 APNs and 50 P-GWs. Path loss is calculated empirically by placing emitter nodes inside a building. A receiver placed outdoors is represented by a Quadrocopter (QC) that receives beacon messages from indoor nodes. As per our analysis, Stanford University Interim (SUI) model, COST-231 Hata model, Green-Obaidat model, Free Space model, Log-Distance Path Loss model and Electronic Communication Committee 33 (ECC-33) models are chosen and evaluated using empirical data collected in a real environment. The aim is to determine if the analytically chosen models fit our scenario by estimating the minimal standard deviation from the empirical data.","PeriodicalId":299985,"journal":{"name":"EAI Endorsed Trans. In this context, we present a buffer management strategy implemented at the source of a video communication system. This scheme uses priority information from the H.264/SVC encoder, network information from a Bandwidth Estimation approach (BE), based on Hidden Markov Model (HMM) and monitors buffer fullness: when it exceeds a defined threshold, the selective discard strategy takes place. To get more flexibility, we employed SNR quality scalability (Medium Grain Scalability), to get more than one rate point for each enhancement layer. Low priority packets correspond to higher quality layers and are discarded first, with the aim to preserve as much as possible more relevant lower layers packets. Dependencies created by the encoding process are kept into account. We show that the strategy presented ensures that the video transmitted has the highest possible quality under the given network conditions and buffer resources.","PeriodicalId":299985,"journal":{"name":"EAI Endorsed Trans. It does not require a global clock or other infrastructures, and it automatically adjusts to the number of participating nodes to ensure that the available bandwidth is always fully utilized. In DESYNC-TDMA the time slots assigned to each node are equally allocated according to the number of nodes, and its slots are allocated one over the number of nodes. It is hard to guarantee the certain level of QoS for certain types of traffic. In this paper, we propose Distributed Call Admission Control (D-CAC) for DESYNC protocol, which is able for nodes to control joining the network with distributed manner. Our scheme needs to add only small amount of bit/flag information to the fire messages of DESYNC protocol. Simulation results showed that D-CAC is able to guarantee a certain amount of allocated slots to send its traffic by control not to join the network if congested.","PeriodicalId":299985,"journal":{"name":"EAI Endorsed Trans. While distributed routing protocols that use only local state of the network have been expected to suitable for adaptive routing on large scale net- work, the lack of global information of the network often makes it difficult to promptly respond to traffic changes of the network when it occurs at out of the local scope. In this paper, based on the biologically-inspired attractor selection model, we propose a distributed routing protocol with active and stochastic route exploration. Acquiring current state of the network beyond its local scope by utilizing stochastic nature of the protocol, the routing protocol can efficiently respond to rapid change of traffic demand on the network. In order to avoid destabilization of routings due to the exploration, we introduce a short-term memory term to the governing equation of the protocol. We also confirm that the protocol successfully balances rapid exploration with stable routing owing to the memory term by numerical simulations.","PeriodicalId":299985,"journal":{"name":"EAI Endorsed Trans. Motifs such as feed-forward loop and bifan have been marked to contribute to structural and functional significance. While network characteristics such as network density, average shortest path, and centrality measures etc., have been well studied, modular characteristics have not been explored in similar detail. Motif connectivity might play a major role in regulation under high perturbations. Connected motif abundance can skew network robustness as well. To test this hypothesis, we study the significance of the two connected feed-forward \u0000 \u0000loop motifs using random forest regression modeling. We define thirty eight network features, fifteen of which are static and dynamic features and the other twenty three are two feed-forward loop connected motif features. We identify significant features among these using random forests regression and create models that can be used to train and predict the robustness of the biological networks. The performance of these models is measured using coefficient of determination metric and the significance of the features themselves is \u0000 \u0000characterized using feature importance. Our experiments \u0000 \u0000reveal that connected feed-forward loop motifs do not contribute to the robustness of network when models are created with all 38 features. For models with only connected motif features, the performance of a specific rhombus motif under high loss stands out.","PeriodicalId":299985,"journal":{"name":"EAI Endorsed Trans. Mob. Commun. This technique is based on the use of a shank-mounted inertial sensor incorporating a tri-axial accelerometer and a tri-axial gyroscope, and it is tested on four different locomotion activities: walking, stair ascent, stair descent and running. Gyroscope data along one component are used to dynamically determine the window size for segmentation, and a number of features are then extracted from these segments. The event-based segmentation technique has been compared against three different fixed window size segmentations, in terms of classification accuracy on two different datasets, and with two different feature sets. The dynamic event-based segmentation showed an improvement in terms of accuracy of around 5% (97% vs. 92% and 92% vs. 87%) and 1-2% (89% vs. 87% and 97% vs. 96%) for the two dataset, respectively, thus confirming the need to incorporate an event-based criterion to increase performance in the classification of motion activities.","PeriodicalId":299985,"journal":{"name":"EAI Endorsed Trans.
