The Shirt shape antenna is designed on FR-4 substrate and is fed through 50 ohm microstrip feed line. Two l-shape slots are introduced in antenna for size reduction and to provide multiband characteristics while DGS (defected ground structure) is used to achieve bandwidth enhancement. The simulated results show that the antenna operates in three different frequency bands having resonance frequencies at 4.4GHz, 6.2GHz and 8.5GHz. The antenna exhibits good return loss of -21.1dB @4.4Ghz, -15dB @6.2GHz and -30.5dB @8.5GHz. The proposed antenna has stable radiation patterns and gain values which are 5.3db at 4.4GHz, 5.03dB at 6.2GHz, 5.27 at 8.5GHz. The VSWR is also less than 2 and has good efficiency values at the operating bands 62%, 89% and 93% respectively. The Shirt shape antenna finds its applications in commercial WLAN, Wi-MAX and in Radar application.","PeriodicalId":299985,"journal":{"name":"EAI Endorsed Trans. Mob. Commun. In this letter, we first formulate the prime issue, i.e., energy harvesting (EV) for 5G wireless networks, in which spectrum and energy resources are efficiently received and resourcefully managed. Thereafter, we introduce a medium access control (MAC) scheme for dual tier 5G networks; it also invokes the simultaneous wireless information and power transfer (SWIPT) technique with other data transmission schemes, i.e., cooperative transmission (CT) scheme and non-cooperative transmission (NCT) scheme with EV abilities. Illustrative results demonstrate significant improvement in aggregated throughput and EE.","PeriodicalId":299985,"journal":{"name":"EAI Endorsed Trans. Mob. Commun. Continuity of service during handover and QoS are relevant issues to deal with. This paper focuses on vertical handover decision making. It proposes a Rank Average method for the best access network selection. This method is an aggregation of two Multi Attributes Decision Making (MADM) methods: Technique for Order Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution (TOPSIS) and VIse Kriterijumska Optimizacija kompromisno Resenja (VIKOR), together with Shannon entropy-based weights. Entropy is an adequate tool to weigh up the handover criteria in a quiet easy and straightforward way. Rank Average outperforms TOPSIS and VIKOR in terms of throughput, end to end delay, packet loss, and significantly reduces the number of unnecessary handovers related to the ping-pong effects. Performance results are obtained within the scope of MIH through NS3 simulator.","PeriodicalId":299985,"journal":{"name":"EAI Endorsed Trans. Mob. Commun. The main contribution is the design of a high capacity Ethernet radio relay network in an area around Bucharest, Romania. The location was chosen on the criterion that it is a high-density traffic area where high-capacity radio links are in operation and use the newest digital radio relay features that are explained in this paper: high modulation scheme, adaptive radio modulation, radio traffic aggregation and cross-polarization interference cancellation. The network contains PDH and SDH links to transport the entire traffic in the area. We analyse several links between different sites that present particularities in the mobile operator's network. Finally, the most suitable parameters are chosen and the designed radio relay network is presented and analysed. It has been implemented in the MNO's network since 2015.","PeriodicalId":299985,"journal":{"name":"EAI Endorsed Trans. Mob. Commun. In this paper, we propose ways to mitigate this problem, using Nigeria as a case study. Based on surveys in West Africa, the paper examines the security situation in the continent and its mutual impacts with computerisation, miniaturisation and Location-Based Authentication (LBA). It was discovered that computerisation and miniaturisation had negative effects on cyber-security, as these were being exploited by fraudsters, using advance fee fraud; called 419. As a countermeasure, the paper examines the possibility of using LBA and digitisation of the GSM Mobile country codes down to city/area codes along with GSM/GPS authentications. These could also be combined with the use of a web-based Secret Sharing Scheme for services with very high security demands. The challenges of roaming were also examined and considered to be of negligible impact.","PeriodicalId":299985,"journal":{"name":"EAI Endorsed Trans. Mob. Commun. A busy professional could find a restaurant to go to for a quick lunch based on information available from smartphones of other people already there. Sensors on diners’ smartphones could detect whether their owners are eating, waiting to be seated, or even heading to a restaurant. Although the programming required for offering a new service of this sort is significant if done from scratch, we identify core communication mechanisms underlying such services, and implement them as part of a middleware, CSSWare. Service designers can then launch novel services over CSSWare by plugging in small pieces of service-specific code. This paper describes the multi-origin communication mechanism which we believe to underlie many crowdsourced services. It presents our design and prototype Actor-based implementation of CSSWare, a middleware for crowd-sourced services. We present source code for two realistic crowd-sourced services to illustrate the ease with which new services can be specified and launched. Finally, we present our experimental results demonstrating scalability, performance and data-contributor side energy efficiency of the approach. QoE is known to be affected by the Quality of Service (QoS) factors packet loss probability (PLP), delay and delay jitter caused by the network. Earlier results have shown that the relationship between these QoS factors and QoE is non-linear, and may vary from application to application. We use the network emulator Netem as the basis for experimentation, and evaluate how QoE varies as we change the emulated QoS metrics. Focusing on Video-on-Demand, we discovered that the reported QoE may differ widely for users of different age groups, and that the most demanding age group (the youngest) can require an order of magnitude lower PLP to achieve the same QoE than is required by the most widely studied age group of users. We then used a bottleneck TCP model to evaluate the capacity cost of achieving an order of magnitude decrease in PLP, and found it be (almost always) a 3-fold increase in link capacity that was required. Keywords—Quality of experience, quality of service, packet loss probability, network capacity.","PeriodicalId":299985,"journal":{"name":"EAI Endorsed Trans. Mob. Commun. This work can be regarded as a good reference to the research community, industry and regulators which are currently investigating spectrum requirements and technology options for 5G system. Considering the interference scenario between the return inter-orbit link of data relay satellite system and downlink of IMT-2020, we adopt realistic system parameters and radiation pattern, combined with very recent channel from the literature. Simulation results indicate that the interference from IMT-2020 downlink to Data Relay Satellite (DRS) is above the interference level while the LEO spacecraft cause acceptable interference to IMT-2020 downlink.","PeriodicalId":299985,"journal":{"name":"EAI Endorsed Trans. The main issue in this type of a network is the delivery of data to a destination. Unfortunately, the mobility of nodes and the disturbances of the propagation channel lead to the increase of the loss rate, which undermines routing performances. To address this issue, routing protocols use link quality estimators as a metric. However, current estimators have been designed for static wireless sensor networks and are not suitable in case of mobility. In order to overcome this issue, a novel metric called Fast ETX is suggested, which gives a reliable and accurate link quality assessment. It is setup by four estimators which assess and predict the link state. In addition, we design a framework to integrate this multi-estimator metric into a routing protocol.","PeriodicalId":299985,"journal":{"name":"EAI Endorsed Trans. Mob. Commun. They are designed to operate for several months by featuring low activity cycles in order to save energy. In this paper, we propose a Medium Access Control (MAC) protocol for such WSNs with very low duty-cycles of 1% and less. Nodes are activated randomly and use a history of previous successful frame exchanges to decide their next activation time. We study the choice of the history size, and we compare the performance of our protocol with other protocols from the literature. We show by simulations and real experiments that with a limited history size of only six entries, our protocol achieves better performance than other protocols from the literature, while keeping the advantages of fully asynchronous protocols.","PeriodicalId":299985,"journal":{"name":"EAI Endorsed Trans.
