The findings allow us to argue that the migratory experience forces them to loosen their identity boundaries inward the ethnic group to reconstitute themselves, survive away, and maintain their Mexican mestizo status. Resulting in the formation of territorial enclaves where they identified against those who label them as illegal, this being the way to defend themselves in a racialized society. This work contributes empirically to migration studies with the case of Chiapanecos mestizos. Although we conclude that the enclave is for them a refuge area, little can be said about other experiences of migrants from Chiapas around ethnicity and the blend of cultures.\u0000

The methodology encompassed the application of 74 questionnaires to Brazilian-Canadian entrepreneurs and 42 semi-structured interviews, aiming at understanding their experiences and relationships. The contributions include stating economic insecurity, political instability, and violence as reasons for migration and showing that social capital is essential for starting and developing a business as entrepreneurs often were driven out of necessity due to barriers in the labor market. As an exploratory study, the article is limited to discussing descriptive aspects of the Brazilian community of entrepreneurs. However, its implications might encompass new studies that involve creating migration policies for newcomers, longitudinal studies, or comparisons with other ethnicities.

Analyzing data from the National Survey of Occupation and Employment from 2010 to 2019, we estimated econometric cross-section models based on Mincer equations. The results suggest that elementary education is not sufficient to achieve high monetary income in micro-enterprises, even its rates are negative, generating losses systematically. The turning point starts in high school, where positive rates are beginning to be observed. However, it highlights that undergraduate and postgraduate education doubles their positive returns, although the number of business owners with this education level is lower.\u0000

Based on the documentary review and the statistics from the administrative records of COMAR, the obstacles encountered by those who require international protection to be granted refugee status, or, in this case, complementary protection (protección complementaria), are analyzed. While Mexican legislation is generous in terms of the possibility of granting these legal protections, the analysis of their implementation allows us to account for practices of blocking, deterrence and immobilization that - in the logic of containment - make it difficult, as well as with often prevent, achieve international protection.

All of them had been unemployed because of the closure of the copper mine in Pilares, Sonora, in 1949. The methodological perspective applied instruments of social and cultural history with concepts of memory studies. It is possible to identify a fractured identity through the broken projections for the future, forcing settlers to re-elaborate their life stories. The study involved work with orality, which resulted in some limitations that had to be solved with contrast of documentary and historiographic sources. The visibility of a community with a strong presence in the social imagination of Sonora defined the originality of the study, concluding further that there is a pilgrim cultural identity that was formed outside the mining space but with symbolic elements of it.\u0000

For that purpose, we used a qualitative method, specifically, the analysis of life stories as reported by seven local women. The departure, absence, and return of a migrant husband entails a series of changes in the practices and subjectivities of wives. These changes have to be negotiated with the returnee to maintain the couple relationship and family ties. The present study stresses the importance of continuing research on migration using a gender perspective to properly acknowledge and evaluate the experience of women married to migrant returnees. The present analysis seeks to contribute to gender-sensitive studies on the phenomenon of migration.

In legal terms, its regime can vary between public and private. This article analyzes the nature of its geospatial distribution, examining the correlation between this urban phenomenon and the socioeconomic inequality of the population of three border cities in northern Mexico (Mexicali, San Luis Río Colorado, and Nuevo Laredo). A descriptive-comparative methodology was implemented based on statistical techniques and digital and physical surveys of the vacant lands in these cities. The results indicate that poverty levels and the number of empty urban spaces are directly related (positively correlated). We used semi-structured interviews and survey data collected in 2016 from the directors of 15 migrant-serving ONG in Tijuana, Mexico, to study how these Organizations support deportees. Building on the interdisciplinary nonprofit literature, we apply theories related to public values to frame our analysis. The approach is conceptual and arises from Geography for peace, a perspective that articulates the approaches of critical geography (political geography from political economy and geographical historical materialism), human rights, and peace studies and conflicts transformation. The conclusions focus on proposing a paradigm shift in border security, moving from a national security approach focused on the State, to one focused on people and their rights, and is guided by the principle of shared responsibility. Despite being an initial approach, the text seeks to promote a paradigm shift, to in future work, provide concrete strategies and lines of action that contribute to materialize the human security approach at the borders of Mexico.
