Three independent coordinates are used to address the voxels (rhombic dodecahedra), their faces (rhombs), their edges and the points at their corners. The incidence (boundary and co-boundary) and adjacency relations between the cells can easily be captured by these coordinate values. The new coordinate system can effectively by applied in various image processing morphological and topological operations.","PeriodicalId":299846,"journal":{"name":"2015 9th International Symposium on Image and Signal Processing and Analysis (ISPA)","volume":"21 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-10-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129772715","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The poor quality hinders the automatic segmentation or analysis of images. In this paper, we describe an image enhancement method to reduce the blurring and color cast of the underwater medium. It is a two-folded approach; First, a color correction algorithm is applied to correct the color cast and produce a natural appearance of the sub-sea images. Second, a pair of learned dictionaries based on sparse representation are applied to sharpen the image and enhance the details. Our strategy is a single image approach that does not require additional knowledge of environment such as depth, distance object/camera or water quality. The experimental results show that the proposed method can efficiently enhance almost every underwater image; And offers a quality that is typically sufficient for the high level computer vision algorithms.","PeriodicalId":299846,"journal":{"name":"2015 9th International Symposium on Image and Signal Processing and Analysis (ISPA)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-10-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129238261","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The different types of audio sensors (microphones) and respective individual audio analysis modules are incorporated within the context of an IoT framework that follows a message-oriented architecture. Each individual audio analysis module is composed by a feature extraction stage and a Support-Vector-Machine (SVM) classifier. A fusion module is also adopted to combine the individual sensor-level decisions, in order to extract the final classification decision. A detailed experimental evaluation on a publicly available real-world dataset proves a rather significant performance boosting in terms of overall classification accuracy. In addition, the proposed architecture enables an easy-to-use training procedure that can easily handle any number of audio sensors and respective classifiers without any prior knowledge of the room's geometry or any other constraints regarding the topological condition of the sensors.","PeriodicalId":299846,"journal":{"name":"2015 9th International Symposium on Image and Signal Processing and Analysis (ISPA)","volume":"137 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-10-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115794582","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Previous research studies have focused on proposing and evaluating objective Video Quality Assessment (VQA) metrics, without mapping their values to Mean Opinion Scores (MOS). This paper presents a model to compute the estimated user-perceived video quality (EMOS), by combining multiple objective VQA metrics whose continuous values are mapped to discrete scores on the 0 - 5 MOS scale. The results analysis of a subjective video quality assessment study with 60 participants have shown that combining multiple VQA metric mappings can improve the user-perceived quality estimation accuracy up to 98.5%.","PeriodicalId":299846,"journal":{"name":"2015 9th International Symposium on Image and Signal Processing and Analysis (ISPA)","volume":"54 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-10-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125091029","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

By using 1D model of line and edge profiles we demonstrate the problem of line extraction and propose the kernels and technique for processing of responses. We demonstrate the stability of the proposed filter in the presence of background gradients. Though the area of possible applications is broader, we use biometric palm images and an algorithm similar to Non-Halo Complex Matched Filtering to demonstrate that the proposed approach can extract only palm features (palm vein and palm print patterns) discarding any other irrelevant information, such as lighting conditions, contours, etc., simplifying further processing of the feature data.","PeriodicalId":299846,"journal":{"name":"2015 9th International Symposium on Image and Signal Processing and Analysis (ISPA)","volume":"56 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-10-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130594786","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We therefore developed an automatic tool to track the changes in distensibility and elongation experienced by the aorta during the cardiac cycle. The tool permitted to lower the work-load and the variability during the measurements acquisition. Analysis of geometric quantities leaded to some interesting findings; a major observation concerns the fact that the thoracic aorta experiences high aortic changes in both distensibility and elongation. Distensibility was preserved or increased after TEVAR. Elongation was not preserved after TEVAR in the segments covered with the stent-graft, it instead increased in the segments proximal to the stent-graft. Additional studies need to be addressed.","PeriodicalId":299846,"journal":{"name":"2015 9th International Symposium on Image and Signal Processing and Analysis (ISPA)","volume":"55 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-10-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127651168","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is based on the use of HRTFs that can be approximated through a free-field model. However, this method assumes that the physical head is removed and replaced with two monopole receivers at the position of the ears and thus the source characteristics is not considered. In this context, a new approximation for the HRTFs is introduced taking into account the source directivity, i.e., the loudspeaker is modelled as a rigid sphere with a membrane vibrating on a spherical cap. A deep investigation on the effect of introducing the source directivity in the free-field model is reported in this paper. In particular, several experimental results are shown, considering both objective and subjective measurements, to validate the effectiveness of the proposed solution in terms of both channel separation and audio quality preservation.","PeriodicalId":299846,"journal":{"name":"2015 9th International Symposium on Image and Signal Processing and Analysis (ISPA)","volume":"87 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-10-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126302565","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The value of texture analysis has been tested in various medical applications, using mostly magnetic resonance images because of the amount of information the method is capable to provide. However, there exists no certain practice to define the region of interest (ROI) within the texture parameters are calculated. Many parameters seem to be dependent on the ROI size. We studied the effect of the ROI size with magnetic resonance head images from 64 healthy adults and artificial noise images. According to our results, ROI size has a significant effect on the computed value of several second-order texture features. We conclude that comparisons of different size ROIs will therefore lead to falsely optimistic classification between analyzed tissues.","PeriodicalId":299846,"journal":{"name":"2015 9th International Symposium on Image and Signal Processing and Analysis (ISPA)","volume":"20 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-10-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114313368","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Current methods, such as time gating and background averaging, mostly applied to remove reflections from air-ground interface do not perform well when removal of extraneous and very strong and non-uniform clutter signals originating from the objects in the surveyed area other than the target is needed. This work describes and evaluates performance of Singular Spectrum Analysis (SSA) and its multivariate derivatives for those tasks. Experimental GPR data using simple geometric shapes measured under laboratory conditions are used to demonstrate the effectiveness of proposed algorithm for these tasks.","PeriodicalId":299846,"journal":{"name":"2015 9th International Symposium on Image and Signal Processing and Analysis (ISPA)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-10-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130957854","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Having a model that compensates for the multipath returns solves this problem; however this requires the knowledge of the room geometry. If wrong information about the room geometry is used in the model, the obtained image will be denser than the image of the true scene. This paper proposes a multipath exploitation method that utilizes this fact. A greedy search is performed to find the wall positions that produce the sparsest image of the desired scene. Hence, detecting the true wall positions and obtaining a ghost-free image. Simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.","PeriodicalId":299846,"journal":{"name":"2015 9th International Symposium on Image and Signal Processing and Analysis (ISPA)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-10-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128697183","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
