A supply chain consists of several sub-processes, internal and external to the enterprise, which are nevertheless rarely executed as planned because deviations due to disruptive events are very common. In this paper we present an event-based framework which is designed to sense events generated by external and internal resources which can lead to undesired deviations in the supply chain. Moreover, it re-synchronizes the whole supply chain process so as to minimize the influence of undesired situations. We implemented and tested this framework with a service based application designed with BPEL 2.0.","PeriodicalId":298835,"journal":{"name":"IISA 2014, The 5th International Conference on Information, Intelligence, Systems and Applications","volume":"12 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-07-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133279970","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, large numbers of people and rescuers are injured and lost in this environment due to the avalanche accidents every year. Drone-based rescue systems are envisioned as a viable solution for saving lives in this hostile environment. To this aim, a European project named “Smart collaboration between Humans and ground-aErial Robots for imProving rescuing activities in Alpine environments (SHERPA)” has been launched with the objective to develop a mixed ground and aerial drone platform to support search and rescue activities in a real-world hostile scenarios. In this paper, we study the challenges of existing wireless technologies for enabling drone wireless communications in alpine environment. We extensively discuss about the positive and negative aspects of the standards according to the SHERPA network requirements. Then based on that, we choose Worldwide interoperability for Microwave Access network (WiMAX) as a suitable technology for drone communications in this environment. Finally, we present a brief discussion about the use of operating band for WiMAX and the implementation issues of SHERPA network. The outcomes of this research assist to achieve the goal of the SHERPA project.","PeriodicalId":298835,"journal":{"name":"IISA 2014, The 5th International Conference on Information, Intelligence, Systems and Applications","volume":"456 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-07-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133283337","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

One of the main issues in live services deployment is the reduction of the overall latency. Low or very low latency streaming is still a challenge. In this paper, we push the use of DASH to its limits with regards to latency, down to fragments being only one frame, and evaluate the overhead introduced by that approach and the combination of: low latency video coding techniques, in particular Gradual Decoding Refresh; low latency HTTP streaming, in particular using chunked-transfer encoding; and associated ISOBMF packaging. We experiment DASH streaming using these techniques in local networks to measure the actual end-to-end latency, as low as 240 milliseconds, for an encoding and packaging overhead in the order of 13% for HD sequences and thus validate the feasibility of very low latency DASH live streaming in local networks.","PeriodicalId":298835,"journal":{"name":"IISA 2014, The 5th International Conference on Information, Intelligence, Systems and Applications","volume":"12 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-07-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134588532","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Specifically, GLOSSA is a context-free language devoted to describe different forms of a kernel (Agent→Action→Patient) of a NL sentence based on its components, which are agents, actions, and patients, and for different kind of connections between them. GLOSSA is also able to describe different kinds of connections between more than one kernels in the same NL sentence. The definition of this formal language is motivated by our future goal to convert NL sentences onto state machines. In order to support this transformation we propose GLOSSA, which offers a formal model for the representation of basic components of a NL sentence (agents, actions, patients). Thus, in this work we provide the formal definition of the GLOSSA language and also present some illustrative examples of its use.","PeriodicalId":298835,"journal":{"name":"IISA 2014, The 5th International Conference on Information, Intelligence, Systems and Applications","volume":"54 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-07-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121846207","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The MCTS' popularity is based on its extraordinary results in the challenging two-player based game Go, a game considered much harder than Chess and that until very recently was considered unfeasible for Artificial Intelligence methods. Different MCTS variants have been proposed, mainly to enhance its capabilities. Perhaps, one of the main limitations of this approach is its applicability in scenarios where multiple agents (more than two) are required. Some works have made an attempt to overcome this limitation by using a vector of reward values for each agent and allowing the algorithm to find an optimal equilibrium strategy. Inspired by these approaches, in this work we make an effort to explore a new proposal for handling multiple agents in MCTS by using a vector of values of what the agents need to do (defined tasks) instead of a vector of rewards for each agent. To achieve this we use a rather simple, but powerful heuristic that estimates the desired values of this vector. That is, a set of values that could lead to the optimal completion of the task. We tested this idea in a real-world scenario rather than using it in games as traditionally done. The results achieved by our proposed approach, named Heuristic-Based Multi-Agent Monte Carlo Tree Search, indicate the feasibility of using heuristics in the MCTS algorithm in situations where more than two agents are required.","PeriodicalId":298835,"journal":{"name":"IISA 2014, The 5th International Conference on Information, Intelligence, Systems and Applications","volume":"25 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-07-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121940027","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A classifier induced from an imbalanced data set has usually a low error rate for the majority class and an unacceptable error rate for the minority class. In this paper a synoptic review of the various related methodologies is given, a new ensemble methodology is introduced and an experimental study with other ensembles is presented. The proposed method that combines the power of OverBagging and Rotation Forest algorithms improves the identification of a difficult small class, while keeping the classification ability of the other class in an acceptable accuracy level.","PeriodicalId":298835,"journal":{"name":"IISA 2014, The 5th International Conference on Information, Intelligence, Systems and Applications","volume":"19 1-2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-07-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127494205","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In an upward drawing vertices are mapped to distinct points of the plane, and edges are curves monotonically increasing in the vertical direction, according to their orientation. In particular, not all planar digraphs admit an upward planar drawing (i.e., an upward drawing with no edge crossing), and testing whether a planar digraph is upward planar drawable is NP-hard. Furthermore, straight-line upward planar drawings may require exponential area. In this paper we study a relaxation of upward drawings, called upward-rightward drawings; in such a drawing for any directed path from a vertex u to a vertex v it must be that either v is above u or v is to the right of u. In contrast with upward planarity, we prove that every planar digraph admits an upward-rightward planar drawing with straight-line edges and that this drawing can be computed in linear time and polynomial area.","PeriodicalId":298835,"journal":{"name":"IISA 2014, The 5th International Conference on Information, Intelligence, Systems and Applications","volume":"90 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-07-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127896681","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Corners in an image are a good indication of features to track. Original algorithms may be expensive even on multicore architectures because they require full convolutions to be performed. Although these can be performed in real time in modern GPUs and multicore CPUs, faster solutions are needed for embedded systems and complex algorithms, given that corner detections is just a step of the analysis process. In this paper we evaluate the performance and energy efficiency of the Harris corner detection algorithm as well as an approximation of it, in both desktop and mobile platforms. The purpose of this paper is three-fold: evaluate the performance gains of GPUs vs. CPUs for several mobile and desktop systems, evaluate whether the Harris approximation provides adequate performance gains to justify its use in mobile and desktop system configurations and, finally, determine which configurations provide real-time performance. According to our evaluation (a) the best GPU solution is 16.3 times faster than the best CPU solution for the desktop case while being 2.6 times more energy efficient and (b) the best GPU solution for the mobile case is 1.2 times faster while being 3.6 times more energy efficient than the respective CPU.","PeriodicalId":298835,"journal":{"name":"IISA 2014, The 5th International Conference on Information, Intelligence, Systems and Applications","volume":"52 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-07-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130186704","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Because of limited body movements and mental disorders, many of them cannot communicate with their families or caregivers. We think if they can use applications of smart phones by a blink, it will be big help for them to tell caregivers what they really need or want to say. Fist, we try to detect an eye area by using OpenCv. Then we develop the way to detect opening and closing of eyes. We combine two methods, using saturation and using complexity of image, to get more accurate results of detecting a blink. The level of handicap is varied in children. So we are trying to develop the application to be able to customize depends on the situation of users. And also, we are trying to reduce the error in detecting a blink and pursue the high precision of the eye chased program.","PeriodicalId":298835,"journal":{"name":"IISA 2014, The 5th International Conference on Information, Intelligence, Systems and Applications","volume":"54 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-07-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130225000","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
