The proposed controller solves the torque/speed/position tracking problem by exploiting the passivity properties of the machine. The methodology design considers the feedback decomposition of the motor model into one electrical and one mechanical passive systems and is divided into the following three steps: control of the electrical sub-system to achieve current tracking, definition of the desired current behaviour to assure torque tracking and design of a speed/position control loop. The contribution of the paper is threefold: the controller design is developed using energy-dissipation ideas; the mathematical formalization of the current engineering practice of controlling this kind of machines with a cascade approach; and the establishment of an extension to previously reported passivity-based controllers for electric machines in the sense that in this case Blondel-Park transformability properties are not required.","PeriodicalId":298625,"journal":{"name":"ISIE'2000. A review includes: new PWM techniques, field oriented and direct torque control of induction motor (FOC and DTC), voltage oriented and direct power control of a PWM rectifier (VOC and DPC), and novel virtual flux (VF) based sensorless control of a PWM rectifier. Also, neural network and fuzzy logic based intelligent controllers for motion control have been discussed. As MEMS become widely implemented, the application of closed-loop control methods to MEMS will lead to higher degrees of certainty and reliability of microelectromechanical operation in physically demanding environments. This paper presents an overview of research and development progress in the area of MEMS control at West Virginia University. The implementation and simulation of a closed-loop stroke-length control of a lateral comb actuator is presented. The closed-loop scheme implemented is based on a common proportional, integral, derivative (PID) linear feedback control. The position signal of the lateral comb actuator device was obtained using a through-wafer free-space optical probe. A novel LTN design concept is here presented, namely IRONET, based on the exploitation of the inductor core loss as part of the wanted high-frequency LTN response. Iron cores are adopted instead of larger ferrite-core thanks to proper eddy-current density, set by design of lamination thickness and winding turns. The effective high-frequency behaviour of lossy power inductors is analysed and discussed, defining small-size R-C simple compensation. An IRONET prototype has been realised and tested for a 55 kW-rated IGBT induction motor, showing IRONET effectiveness very close to full performance even by common 0.35 mm laminations.","PeriodicalId":298625,"journal":{"name":"ISIE'2000. In the part-tool grouping problem (PGP), the process of assembling parts is assigned to several machines so as to optimize plural performance criteria. In this paper, the PGP is formulated as a multiobjective optimization problem. Then, for sampling various nondominated solutions from along the entire Pareto-optimal front of the PTP, a new genetic algorithm (GA) based on the evolutionary theory advocated by Kinji Imanishi is proposed. While conventional GAs mimic the process of natural selection, the proposed GA realizes the situation of habitat segregation, i.e., a principle of coexistence. The Imanishism-based GA can find various Pareto-optimal solutions effectively, because it keeps the diversity of population in both of the objective and the problem spaces without harming the power of local search operations. The advantage of the Imanishism-based GA is confirmed quantitatively through computational experiments conducted on a practical problem instance of the PGP.","PeriodicalId":298625,"journal":{"name":"ISIE'2000. Based on the Bellman-Gronwall theorem, we provide a sufficient condition for the existence of switching hyperplane and we give an explicit formula of switching hyperplant guaranteeing the asymptotic stability of the reduced-order equivalent system dynamics restricted to the switching hyperplane. Furthermore, by means of the Lyapunov stability theory and norm technique, we derive an approximating continuous VSC law for uncertain systems with multiple time delays and mismatched uncertainties which are difficult to deal with by using conventional design approaches. This Advanced Debugger is capable of editing and debugging programs, and also it can monitor and control the microcontroller operation via the background debugging mode (BDM). Debugging of programs with the DA is made with the use of BDM's set of commands and communication protocol, and through the handling of variables stored in memory locations, general-purpose registers, and internal registers. The DA permits total access at any time of the mentioned memory locations and registers, even the microcontroller's internal control registers. Some current debuggers do not access internal registers due to BDM's design limitations and programming complexity of the debugger. This Advanced Debugger is very powerful because it does not require the program to be recompiled every time it is needed to change the values of variables that access the internal registers and by consequence, the process does not have to be stopped to trace the error. Even more, the DA allows testing the microcontroller operation without the need of writing a single line of code. The designers have difficulty in drawing its cutting pattern with texture alignment. In this paper, we describe a CAD system for the yukata. First, we developed image processing algorithms for achieving the texture alignment. Second, we developed a measurement system for the wearer's body shape. The method is based on the use of a short-current pulse of the PV array to determine an optimum operating current for the maximum output power and completely differs from conventional hill-climbing based methods. In the proposed system, the optimum operating current is instantaneously determined by taking a product of the short-current pulse amplitude and a parameter k because the optimum operating current is exactly proportional to the short current under various conditions of illuminance and temperature. Also, the system offers an identification function of k by means of fast power-vs.-current curve scanning, which makes the short-current pulse based MPPT adaptive to disturbances such as shades partially covering the PV panels. The above adaptive MPPT algorithm has been adopted to a current-controlled boost chopper and a multiple power converter system composed by PV-chopper modules. Various operating characteristics have been examined, and excellent MPPT performance has been confirmed through the experimental tests.","PeriodicalId":298625,"journal":{"name":"ISIE'2000.
