Calculations have been done with the aid of the comprehensive, fully self-consistent numerical model developed by our group. The research has focused mainly on an influence of the pumping beam size and shape on thermal and optical properties as well as power scaling of the modelled laser. Various beam profiles, such as: Gaussian, super-Gaussian and top-hat, have been investigated. An analysis of the optimal width of the emitted beam within the structure volume for pumping beams of different shapes has been also carried out.","PeriodicalId":295541,"journal":{"name":"2015 17th International Conference on Transparent Optical Networks (ICTON)","volume":"110 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-07-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127982294","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

These particular properties allow both compactness and a high angular acceptance. However, ours studies show that CRIGFs offer simultaneously spectral and modal filtering and we evidence high-spatial-order reflected modes. In this paper, we will present characterization of the spectral and spatial profile that demonstrates the existence of these high-order modes. In addition, we will present a model based on the physical understanding of implied phenomena to explain the experimental results. This model combines coupled-mode modelling and moiré fringes analysis. These modes could be harnessed for simultaneous spatial and spectral laser stabilization, to design and fabricate selective reflectors or outcouplers for spatial mode division multiplexing (SMDM) in few-mode fibers (FMFs) or for particles optical trapping.","PeriodicalId":295541,"journal":{"name":"2015 17th International Conference on Transparent Optical Networks (ICTON)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-07-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134443809","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The HIAN seamlessly integrates indoor visible light communication (VLC) with wavelength-division multiplexed passive optical network (WDM-PON), thus it is able to support both wireless and wired accesses for indoor users. By modulating an M-ary pulse amplitude modulation (MPAM) signal to the envelope of a CE-OFDM signal, OFDM based fiber access and MPAM based variable bit rate VLC access can be spectral-efficiently converged.","PeriodicalId":295541,"journal":{"name":"2015 17th International Conference on Transparent Optical Networks (ICTON)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-07-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134542472","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We have investigated the distribution of the received power by a quasi two-dimensional, own developed ray tracing model and by measurement in LoS (Line of Sight) and NLoS (Non Line of Sight) scenarios. The model takes into account the direct propagation path, the first-and second-order reflected rays as well as the effect of diffraction as well. The utilization of linear and circular polarized antennas instead of only linear polarized antennas decreases the standard deviation of the received power and enhances the effective range. We have performed positioning with the simulated and measured powers using the mean squared error method in case of three transmitters. The average positioning error is significantly reduced by usage of the two various types of polarization antennas compared to the use of merely linearly polarized antennas.","PeriodicalId":295541,"journal":{"name":"2015 17th International Conference on Transparent Optical Networks (ICTON)","volume":"298 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-07-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133937288","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The optical channel defragmentation node need to be transparent with respect to the modulation format, baud-rate, and the wavelength of signals, to deal with any kind of optical signals. We have experimentally demonstrated an optical channel defragmentation node by using IQ modulator-based frequency shifters, which is transparent to the optical signal formats. Spectrally efficient Nyquist wavelength division multiplexed channels are successfully defragmented and achieved Add operation for different modulation formats with power penalty of less than 2.5 dB. In addition, a multi-hop Add-Drop network is also demonstrated, where the four nodes are connected by 50 km fiber link and two nodes are the defragmentation nodes. The system shows error-free operation with low power penalty less than 4 dB.","PeriodicalId":295541,"journal":{"name":"2015 17th International Conference on Transparent Optical Networks (ICTON)","volume":"22 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-07-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133973349","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We also demonstrate that a proper architecture design, with phase and amplitude modulators, largely increases the constellation size. However, the ever-increasing user demands drive POF systems to be operated close to their capacity. Therefore, the common practice to simulate the whole system in order to estimate its performance prior to its physical deployment is of paramount importance in POF-based communication links. In this work, we will present a system-level simulation framework able to evaluate the performance of POF systems with different layouts built with several passive and active components, including optical sources, detectors, fibers and connectors. Given the high multimodality of plastic optical fibers, the optical building blocks in the simulation framework are based on mathematical models that take into account both the temporal (frequency) and the spatial dimensions. We will show the possibility to assess not only basic IM/DD transmission, but also more advanced transmission techniques that can overcome the bandwidth limitations of POF, confirming how powerful the simulation framework is.","PeriodicalId":295541,"journal":{"name":"2015 17th International Conference on Transparent Optical Networks (ICTON)","volume":"194 1 Suppl 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-07-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132765269","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The third-order intercept point (IP3) and the 1-dB compression point (P1dB) of the amplifier are improved with the use of special harmonic loads. To demonstrate this effect an amplifier was designed applying a BFG424F NPN type bipolar transistor. The amplifier was designed for a broad band providing gain from 1 GHz to 6 GHz. This way it can be used for testing its performance with the harmonic loads. The effect of loads is demonstrated for a 1.5 GHz sinusoidal signal. Two cases will be shown in this paper. In the first case the harmonic load was designed to reflect the 3 GHz component (the 2nd harmonic of the input signal) in opposite phase back to the amplifier, while in the second case the 4.5 GHz component (the 3rd harmonic of the input signal) is reflected. With the use of this load the gain at 1.5 GHz is improved by 2 dB and the third-order input intercept point is also improved by 1 dB. A significant advantage of the present approach is that the delay time of the harmonic reflection is very short which means a large bandwidth.","PeriodicalId":295541,"journal":{"name":"2015 17th International Conference on Transparent Optical Networks (ICTON)","volume":"225 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-07-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115741426","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
