Firstly, different ring resonators loaded by conventional straight bus ring resonator couplers with different gaps were fabricated with a cavity length of 828 μm and a bending radius of 50 μm. They were measured with an average Q-factor around 85,000 and proved to present large intrinsic coupler losses. We then proposed a new symmetric racetrack ring resonator coupler to reduce coupler loss thanks to a smoothed transition in coupling region between the coupled supermodes and achieved Q factor above 120,000 with total intrinsic loss around 2.2 dB/cm in a 50 μm radius ring resonator with total cavity length 326 μm by this approach. These optimized slot ring resonators could bring a new progress towards low loss silicon slot waveguiding structures for hybrid Si photonics including on-chip nonlinear optics and sensing in future.","PeriodicalId":295541,"journal":{"name":"2015 17th International Conference on Transparent Optical Networks (ICTON)","volume":"56 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-07-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124527472","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Such a hybrid opto-electronic system uses an external electro-optical modulator, a filter that selects from among the possible oscillation modes, and a long, optical, single-mode fiber in a closed resonator loop. The required resonator quality factor (Q) is proportional to the product of the oscillator's frequency and the fiber's length, which introduces an optical delay with a low loss. The main focus of this paper will be on opto-electronic design issues in order to obtain a low phase noise, a high spectral purity, a high quality factor, a high long-term frequency stability, good robustness, small dimensions, a low power consumption, and a low cost. The key features of the opto-electronic oscillator prototype, where the CW microwave signal is carried to the optical domain using a laser with a 1550-nm wavelength via optical modulation, will be demonstrated.","PeriodicalId":295541,"journal":{"name":"2015 17th International Conference on Transparent Optical Networks (ICTON)","volume":"89 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-07-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124577134","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

First, we find the optimum signal power for a given DC bias level assuming a fixed number of LEDs. Then, for a desired lighting requirement, we determine the optimum combination of DC bias, signal power and the number of LEDs which gives the best bit error rate (BER) performance. Numerical results are presented to demonstrate the BER under different settings under consideration.","PeriodicalId":295541,"journal":{"name":"2015 17th International Conference on Transparent Optical Networks (ICTON)","volume":"42 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-07-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116318044","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
