Due to the laser thermal properties that limit maximum current density in the active region, high power emission requires large laser apertures. This results in appearance of multiple transverse optical modes, which very often are undesirable. In the talk we present important aspects of modeling these modes with advanced self-consistent software and we will also show some propositions of possible measures that can be taken to increase modal selectivity and reduce number of modes. We illustrate these general concepts with examples of modeling gallium-nitride VCSELs.","PeriodicalId":295541,"journal":{"name":"2015 17th International Conference on Transparent Optical Networks (ICTON)","volume":"24 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-07-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127049813","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Particularly, in order to minimize the number of situations where high speeds can lead to severe consequences in case of accident. When two or more vehicles are involved in such events, it is necessary to reach a common agreement very quickly that can serve all of them to minimize the risk of collision, and whenever it is unavoidable, to reduce its impact on the occupants. Depending on the vehicle-to-vehicle distances, the relative speeds and other factors such as the position and inertia of each car at the instant of triggering the evasive maneuver, different situations can eventually occur. Actually, the sensitivity of vehicular maneuvers under these circumstances is very high, thus being important to analyze the impact on performance of the given safety application. In this paper, we conduct a brief sensitivity study of a CCA application that involves several vehicles that have to avoid the collision against an obstacle on the road, while circulating at very high speeds. Results show how significant it is for the safety control the accuracy in the measurements and the fast common response to the incidence.","PeriodicalId":295541,"journal":{"name":"2015 17th International Conference on Transparent Optical Networks (ICTON)","volume":"275 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-07-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122305573","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Both, small cells and WiFi networks, are connected to the operator's network through an IP broadband backhaul connection. Such centralized heterogeneous scenario is supported by a Distributed Antenna System (DAS) using Radio over Fiber (RoF) technology. The Hydra-RoF architecture employs low cost components such as VCSELs combined with digital pre-distortion and compensation techniques. Using the nonlinear modulation curve of electro-absorption modulator (EAM), signal distortion is easily suppressed after aligning to the zero-slope region of nonlinear modulation curve. Thus, the dilemma between chirp management filtering and large wavelength shift generated by self-heating effect can be solved. We experimentally validate signal distortion compensation of 1 μs burst length with 10 Gb/s data rate and chirp management performance of 25 km, 45 km and 65 km single mode fiber (SMF) is also analysed.","PeriodicalId":295541,"journal":{"name":"2015 17th International Conference on Transparent Optical Networks (ICTON)","volume":"7 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-07-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128483763","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

For this purpose, we design a very dense wireless network, consisting of radio cells of less than 10 m2. To serve these small cells, a backbone network implemented over a radio-over-fibre (RoF) based architecture can be an ideal solution. In this paper we propose different RoF architectures that are varying in architectural complexity, flexibility, supported user densities (depending on the sharing ratio of the optical transceivers between cells) and the number of users per cell. We indicate their main challenges and propose some specific scenarios where they can be applied. Not only there are architectural challenges to design the RoF network to bring a high capacity to every small cell, but also a medium access control (MAC) protocol is needed to confirm the quality of service (QoS) bounds of a low latency, seamless handovers, and a high throughput. We differentiate between two approaches to design such a MAC protocol, either distributed or centralized mechanisms.","PeriodicalId":295541,"journal":{"name":"2015 17th International Conference on Transparent Optical Networks (ICTON)","volume":"31 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-07-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129279106","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
