The broadness and intensity of SPM spectrum are investigated through nonlinear FOMTPA optimization to inhibit the detrimental two-photo absorption in slot waveguides, which demonstrates slot waveguides with higher FOMTPA could perform as wide but much more intense broadened spectrum than those with low FOMTPA, even though high FOMTPA slot waveguides intrinsically have larger effective mode areas, namely weaker Kerr effects. This study will draw attention to future nonlinear optimization of hybrid silicon waveguides to make balance between effective mode areas related Kerr effects and FOMTPA related TPA inhibition.","PeriodicalId":295541,"journal":{"name":"2015 17th International Conference on Transparent Optical Networks (ICTON)","volume":"59 5","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-08-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132418199","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Both prototypes were assembled in a wind tunnel in order to reproduce real operation conditions. The optical sensors identified the vibration frequency and the nodal diameter of the first prototype by measuring the clearance of the disk to the casing of the wind tunnel. This method was also employed to check the improvements obtained with an upgraded design of the rotating disk, showing that the measuring system presents a great potential to perform non-contact evaluation of rotating components.","PeriodicalId":295541,"journal":{"name":"2015 17th International Conference on Transparent Optical Networks (ICTON)","volume":"109 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-08-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114622377","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Dentinal hypersensitivity is rising for the ageing population because of additional enamel wear. Both conditions adversely affect lifestyle and potentially can harm the systemic health of the patients. Since the loss of enamel is an irreversible process in vivo, the only way for restoring it is via exogenous means. In this work a novel route for enamel restoration using an acid-resistant, calcium phosphate based bio-mineral and ultrafast (femto-second, fs) pulsed lasers in the near IR wavelength is demonstrated. A mixture of calcium phosphate (in the form of mineral brushite) powder with a bio-mineral gel was used to coat acid eroded bovine enamel surfaces. After forming the mineral layers, the samples were irradiated with two different 100 - 200 fs pulsed lasers, one at 800 nm with 1 kHz repetition rate, and the other at 1044 nm with 1 GHz repetition rate. The laser-irradiated samples were characterized using X-ray diffraction, SEM, and Raman microscopy. It was found that irradiation with 1 GHz transformed brushite crystals to β-calcium pyrophosphate while the bio-mineral gel coating was melted and formed a homogeneous film on the enamel surface.","PeriodicalId":295541,"journal":{"name":"2015 17th International Conference on Transparent Optical Networks (ICTON)","volume":"104 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-07-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116801010","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Optical transmission systems, have historically relied on efficient multiplexing and efficient data modulation for spectral efficiency. Such systems are expected to reuse the existing infrastructure when upgrading into higher capacity systems, while complying with the constraints imposed by typical functionalities of next generation all-optical networks. The latter typically implies that bit rate variable and adaptive technologies should be in place. This paper will study bit rate variable adaptive optical and electronic network technologies that enable transmission of high capacity channels with low complexity and cost.","PeriodicalId":295541,"journal":{"name":"2015 17th International Conference on Transparent Optical Networks (ICTON)","volume":"2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-07-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121035445","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The most widely used intensity formats such as Non Return to Zero, Return to Zero, Carrier-Suppressed Return to Zero and duobinary are investigated in terms of bit error rate, Q-factor, optical reach and dense wavelength division multiplexing grid, in order to find out their physical limitations and system performance in a transmission system with given parameters. However, phase-based modulation formats like Differential Phase-Shift Keying and Differential Quadrature Phase-Shift Keying can perform better at the cost of increased transceiver's complexity. Some formats can benefit from polarization division multiplexing to enable higher spectral efficiency, optical reaches, optical to signal noise ratio and chromatic dispersion tolerances. Simulations are performed in OptSim software environment based on the Time Domain Split Step method which uses full band simulation and offers aliasing errors immunity, accurate differential group delays, parallel computing, etc.","PeriodicalId":295541,"journal":{"name":"2015 17th International Conference on Transparent Optical Networks (ICTON)","volume":"50 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-07-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127265304","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Such switches, which can be reconfigured on millisecond and microsecond timescales, have already attracted commercial interest. However switches which are able to reconfigure on the nanosecond timescales required for packet switching have been more challenging and only in recent years, have router concepts been devised to allow lossless routers to be constructed able to switch on nanosecond timescales with more than 16×16 ports. This paper will therefore review the advances that have occurred to allow such operation and then describe recent studies that have begun to determine the electronic control and functionality required to enable full and practical operation of such switches in high performance networks.","PeriodicalId":295541,"journal":{"name":"2015 17th International Conference on Transparent Optical Networks (ICTON)","volume":"14 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-07-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127469850","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
