The partition which was conceived for peace, harmony and order brought only violence and hostility on both parts of the country at that point in time. The repercussion of the partition can be seen in the present day also as durable peace since then has never been achieved between the two countries. The poignant partition inspired literature, which has collected the partition experiences of common folk. The partition literature which emerged as a separate genre of literature is a medium of cultural memory which helps in shaping the sensibility of contemporary readers. The present article seeks to examine the role of partition in degenerating the relationship between India and Pakistan and the collective memory shared by the contemporary people by a reading of Khushwant Singh’s Train to Pakistan, a masterpiece of partition literature.","PeriodicalId":294953,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 5th Arts & Humanities Conference, Copenhagen","volume":"215 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-07-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123325583","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It emphasizes that the four views expressed are equally scientific and informative; they look at the phenomenon from their certain paradigmatic viewpoint; and together they provide a more balanced understanding of the phenomenon under consideration.","PeriodicalId":294953,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 5th Arts & Humanities Conference, Copenhagen","volume":"41 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-07-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122311825","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The aim of this paper is to showcase the results from asynchronous online interviews, which was focused on exploring the needs of potential users of a mobile blood donation app in South Africa.This paper specifically reports on the results of the 89 interviews conducted with existing and potential blood donors in South Africa during late 2017 and early 2018. As part of a larger, exploratory sequential mixed method research project, the interview schedule described in this paper was guided by the Leximancer analyses of app store reviews of existing blood donation apps, and the results from the interview informed a quantitative questionnaire. The results of the interviews, garnered from a Leximancer analyses, showed that the potential convenience afforded to blood donors by a blood donation app was important ? aspects such as reminders to donateand GPS functionality for finding blood donation events, among others, were mentioned as preferred features by respondents.Furthermore, several respondents noted that a question and answer feature with the blood donation organisation would be a value adding feature in an app of this kind.","PeriodicalId":294953,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 5th Arts & Humanities Conference, Copenhagen","volume":"124 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-07-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124195263","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

George Sand (1804-1876) was a prolific author and one at home in diverse genres, from fiction, autobiographical and political texts, to theatre pieces. These two women writers also had different family backgrounds and different personalities. In spite of the obvious differences, they had some common interests, such as the love of nature and music, vivid and creative imagination. Passionate and curious readers since their earliest childhood, they read avidly whatever was available to them without any restrictions, an experience that shaped their literary tastes and inspired their first attempts at writing at an early age. imaginary poetic of freedom and confinement, of reason and madness, life and death), the elements of folklore and the supernatural, lyrical and dramatic passages to poetic imagery, language and rhythm of their prose. Wuthering Heights and Mauprat can therefore be read as novels written by poetesses-musicians who crossed medial boundaries and created musical novels by borrowing structures, techniques and impressions typical of a classical piece of music. Like a musical score, Wuthering Heights and Mauprat with their complex structure and nature exist as a unique piece of art, offering at the same time different possibilities of interpretation.","PeriodicalId":294953,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 5th Arts & Humanities Conference, Copenhagen","volume":"58 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-07-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116123837","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In part that is because, with his revolutionary spirit and personal views pertaining to radical potentialities, Morrison began to serve as an impressive icon of the generation gap that existed between young people who hoped to change the world and older individuals, including conventional authority figures, who seemed set in their ways. Accordingly, this presentation examines Morrison?s status as a desirable leader of the youth counterculture in the United States during the 1960s. It demonstrates how Morrison?s outspoken views, bohemian lifestyle, rebellious personality, unpredictable performing style, experiences with psychedelic drugs and alcohol, extensive literary knowledge (which ranged from the works of Beat poets and writers to French existentialist philosophers), and intentional attempts to spark riots effectively combined to position him as an appealing 'guiding spirit' and source of solidarity to countless members of the youth counterculture of his day. It further demonstrates the substantial personal toll this cultural status took on Morrison as his career progressed toward the early 1970s, when he endeavored to take his metier in new directions yet found himself trapped in a celebrity persona he no longer wished to call his own, even though it was very much of his own making.","PeriodicalId":294953,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 5th Arts & Humanities Conference, Copenhagen","volume":"40 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-07-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126785814","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Taking this objective a step further necessitates helping students develop as global citizens who are equipped with rhetorical tools from different cultures and nations—as rhetoric (the ancient art of speaking and writing) is at the heart of civic and professional actions. To this end, my research aims to recover non-Western approaches to rhetoric, by focusing on the rhetorical perspectives and practices of my native Turks—a group whose world presence spans centuries since their ancient origins in central Asia, and to explore their rhetorical and pedagogical implications for contemporary students and citizens. This presentation will focus on a thematic analysis of the first major example of Turkish-Islamic literature (11th century), Yusuf Has Hacib’s Kutadgu Bilig (roughly translated as Wisdom That Brings Happiness), which deems the appropriate use of language essential to living a fulfilled life. I will discuss Kutadgu Bilig’s teachings on how to use language, explaining the text’s aim to educate an ‘ideal rhetorical agent’ who has to study language in order to effectively communicate with and utilize authority and power. The findings suggest that the notions of kut and töre underwrite Kutadgu Bilig as the pillars of performing in/with language. Kut roughly represents a divinely sourced bliss. Töre refers to a certain set of moral principles that are supposed to guide and govern an individual’s behavior--principles that, when followed, leads to an individual’s eternal bliss and, when violated, might result in his or her demise. Rather than defining rhetoric as the moral person speaking (e.g., see Quintilian), Kutadgu Bilig suggests that attaining kut requires subjecting the ‘tongue’ to a certain rhetorical training (e.g., one has to study language so she or he can effectively communicate with and utilize authority and power) which ensures one’s morality (proper following of the töre). With its insights on the use of language, Kutadgu Bilig demonstrates the universal value of the study of rhetoric and can contribute to our explorations of alternative definitions and purposes of rhetoric (e.g., communicating to attain happiness). Such non-Western texts can present us with different sets of rhetorical conventions that raise interesting questions and can provide scholars with various points for critical discussion about how to exercise a moral understanding of rhetorical agency in our quest to advance civil discourse.","PeriodicalId":294953,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 5th Arts & Humanities Conference, Copenhagen","volume":"117 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132543290","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It has been developed for more than twenty years, and a major survey was conducted in 2003 to look at the reasons for, and the possibilities and challenges arising from, the development and implementation of media literacy education in Hong Kong schools (Author 2004). Now with the changes in society, the rapid advances in technology, and a universal cry for education reform, are these reasons, possibilities and challenges different? This study revisits some of the above questions to see what changes there are and the reasons behind the changes. It has been determined that national culture impacts leadership and leadership styles by defining the meanings that both the leader and his followers ascribe to the reality that surrounds them. The analysis includes the impact that the dimensions of national culture, identified in the Geert Hofstede’s and GLOBE’s researches, have on leadership. The paper analyses the impact that the dimensions of national culture have on two main dimensions used to differentiate leadership styles: authoritarianism–participative orientation and task orientation–people orientation. It has been determined that power distance and individualism–collectivism as well as uncertainty avoidance and assertiveness decisively impact the selection between authoritarian and participative leadership styles. The national culture’s “masculinity”–“femininity” dimension, as well as gender equality, performance orientation, people orientation, and future orientation correlated with it, impact the selection between people orientation and task orientation. In certain contexts, a high uncertainty avoidance also impacts this leadership dimension. By intertwining two leadership styles’ dimension, four leadership styles are created, as well as cultural contexts in which each of the styles is favoured, preferred, and thereby more effective. Serbian national culture, with its assumptions and values, implies using of authoritarian people-oriented style.","PeriodicalId":294953,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 5th Arts & Humanities Conference, Copenhagen","volume":"63 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126620923","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Performance being one of the subtlest mediums, Dattani touches upon various social issues not only to provoke his audience but also enable them to ponder over and find remedies for the social ills worldwide. Unlike other Indian writers, he neither writes in regional languages nor translates them for wider audiences. His involvement in theatre provides him an edge over other dramatists of his time. The first Indian English playwright who got Sahitya Academy Award, Dattani is credited with several notable plays, which at times, may be considered controversial but are not devoid of the speck of truth. The present paper which is based on Dattani’s play Thirty Days in September, apart from presenting the painful episode of child sexual abuse, explores psychologically the predicament the characters suffer from. The paper unveils the helplessness of a mother’s attempt to camouflage the modesty of her daughter’s incestuous affairs. Both the daughter and the mother are able to expose the criminal clothed in a lamb’s attire. An attempt will also be made to unplug the repressed emotion that darkens the prospects of both the mother and the daughter, making them inimical to each other. While the daughter’s anxiety over the thirty days of the calendar acts as her biological discomfiture, its outlet may prove to be cathartic. The disturbed childhood falls heavily on the growing child sandwiched between being and becoming. The ‘return of the repressed’ paves the path towards violence alone so as to smoothen the bruises of the soul. The heavy atmosphere of the play finds its release in the proper communication between the mother and the daughter who seem to share the same crooked fate.","PeriodicalId":294953,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 5th Arts & Humanities Conference, Copenhagen","volume":"276 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123553636","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The increasing development of communication technology has seriously affected people?s lifestyle and consumers? behavior. Government policies and guidelines have been revised to keep up with changing environment of media industry. Media managers and operators need to adjust themselves and look for new strategies to survive in high competitive market. The educational institutions also inevitably need to adapt themselves in order to cope with the new social context and market demand. This researcher conducted a descriptive study on media management research published from 2008 to 2017. The research objectives were to synthesize significant themes, theoretical concepts, and research methods in the area of media management. The research explored international database of thesis/dissertation, as well as international academic articles on media management. Using mixed methods approach, the data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and qualitative content analysis. The results of the research showed that the topics related to media management appeared more in doctoral dissertation than in master?s theses. Additionally more media management articles were published in Journal of Media Business Studies (JOMBS) than other journals included in the study. The type of media most found in theses/dissertation database were new media, television and newspaper respectively, while television and newspaper were most found in articles published in selected journals. News was the most important area of media management study in both theses/dissertation database and academic journals. During 10 years time frame, most media management research used qualitative method, followed by quantitative and mixed methods respectively, and the theories employed were diverse and often integrated. Most research was conducted in the United States, only a few were from other countries, such as China, UK, India, Canada, France etc. The results of this study might be useful for media professionals and academics for future analysis and planning in media management.","PeriodicalId":294953,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 5th Arts & Humanities Conference, Copenhagen","volume":"81 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129699013","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
